One of the last things I expected when I started watching this video was you doing a fashion show while drinking from the skulls of your enemies. But I'm here for it!
I’ve done the Sunday sweater a few times and get tons of compliments. I appreciate PETIT KNITS aesthetic. I have a few of her patterns and they always work out well. I come from a few creative businesses backgrounds and to people who complain that it’s nothing new. It’s really hard to be 100% new new…. It’s really really hard. She may be reinventing the wheel but it’s a lovely wheel! She has attracted lots of new knitters to the craft and the designs are accessible. If you don’t like a designers work - knit something else. I may or may not knit the no frills but I love to hear how much love there is for it!
So true. There are tons of free raglan patterns to be found online (e.g. Garnstudio by Drops Design) but when knitters are willing to pay for a similar pattern, the designer must be doing something right.
I have been knitting for over 10 years and have always knitted bottom up (mostly Japanese patterns). I knitted my first top down sweater in 2023, which is the No Frills sweater by Petite Knit. It’s easy to knit and gave me a good idea of the structure of a raglan sweater. I’m still wearing it and it’s v cozy. I’m knitting a lot more top down sweaters since then, different structures. It’s definitely a good pattern for beginner knitters.
May I ask where you got your Japanese patterns from? I like that they are often using thinner yarn and I am searching for patterns :) would be great to know 😊
I love pattern review videos! As a cautious knitter, it helps to hear a view on the pattern from someone more experienced. I also love how honest you are and that you come across as trying to be fair and open. ❤Thank you so much!
I actually knit the No Frills sweater a year ago because you spoke so highly of it and I absolutely love it. I wouldn't have thought it, only looking at the pictures, but the proportions are exactly right, it looks elegant but also relaxed. I might need to knit another one...
I appreciate your thoughts on this pattern. I would say that compliments will also be given on your sweater because your colourway and yarn choice is stunning. What I find with this pattern and others that are knit with two yarns combined is that they are not accessible to some due to cost. I know you mentioned about substitution and using only one yarn and I think that is where if you use Raverly it is a good place to start to find makers who have done that and the yarn they have used.
Thank you for addressing yarn substitution for those of us who can’t wear mohair. You’ve convinced me to take the plunge on the No Frills for my first sweater.🙏🏻💕
I just finished knitting this sweater in Zealana Rimu DK. It was my very first sweater. After listening to your podcast, I’d like to try it again, but with two yarns, one being mohair. I will try another sweater pattern first. It took me a long time to knit and I took some rather long pauses but it turned out surprisingly well. Thanks for your comments.
Omg Taylor You are a hoot when you were trying different ways to wear the sweater hahaha! Now I want to knit the sweater lol Good podcast you started my morning off on a great note today !!! Love ya until next pod 🥰💕
Come for the knitting (even though I'm a crocheter 😆), stay for the fashion show! I'm on the lookout for a simple knit sweater pattern, perhaps with video support, for my first knit wearable, so watching with interest!
Loved the enthusiastic fashion show 😄 I knit a no frills sweater for my daughter and I used a merino/alpaca blend yarn I picked up from Joann’s for it. I’ve been happy with the results and she loves the sweater too.
I haven't knit the No Frills, but, if I were going to knit a basic stockinette raglan design, I'd go with the Cozy Classic Raglan by Jessie Maed. It's got that same classic minimalist design that works with everything, but it's more size inclusive (which is also represented in the sample photos on Ravelry). She gives plenty of links to the video tutorials you might want for the techniques in the sweater. She has tons of customization options in the pattern for fit and style, including advice on how to do a fade. And she gives tons of yarn options, including a bunch of budget-friendly ones (also, I think the looser gauge lends itself to more options; I could hit the 18st gauge with a worsted weight yarn and not have a fabric that's too tight). The pattern is a good value for beginners who want to keep it simple and experienced knitters who want all the options to choose from.
I love the simplicity of PetiteKnit designs and I think this is another example of her classic style. I am definitely going to put it on my wish list of knits! I absolutely loved this video, I really hope you do more like this! Thank you so much for sharing🥰
Thank you for sharing your thoughtful feedback on this pattern and for making me laugh on a Monday morning. :) As a child of the 90s who is thrilled that overalls are back (and owns three pair), I approve your No Frills/overall ensemble. :)
Thank you for this review. Just what I needed. A balanced take on a popular pattern. Especially needed the modelling session - it’s so hard to visualise what a wardrobe workhorse looks like in real life. Please keep videos like this coming!! New favourite type of knitting content
I knitted twice this pattern. Once in 2019 for my daughter and once 2020 for me, and My daughter asked me a new one as hers is worn out. I knitted it in a very light grey and it teamed absolutely with everything. Mine is in bright teal , and I would like a more neutral one. This is a very versatile, classic pattern and its fit is just perfect, especially the neck line. I just love Petite knit patterns and fot the whole family and every one has its favorite
Love this pattern, I’ve knitted one for myself and 3 additional for granddaughters. By far it is the most comfortable and most worn sweater in my hand knitted collection. For mine I used a DK weight tweed yarn (no mohair). The tweed is my favorite simply because the tweed fabric does camouflage some of the tension issues from so much stockinette. It also makes the transition from smaller to larger needles on the neck ribbing less noticeable.
I wore my No Frills to an Interview with nice hybrid jogger pant and today to a cafe with a friend with a pair of wide leg lounge pants. LOVE this sweater. So much that I want to knit another. My friend even commented on the elegant raglan. I love your color combo! I have knit the Felix as well, and I want to knit it again too! Timeless. This is what I want to build my wardrobe around.
I agree with what you say. In addition I would like to add that this pattern has become one of my go to patterns because it gives a very basic and well fitting sweather that can handle a lot of creative input when it comes to different yarns. Love all of my versions.
Currently knitting the Monday sweater by PK and it's my second time knitting a garment. The first one, a cardigan by DROPS, was so difficult to understand as a new knitter and it's really made me appreciate how clear PK's instructions are. I'm breezing through this one and it's been such a joy to knit.
Hello 😍 I already have the pattern and will definitly knit the No Frills sweater this year!!! I knitted the Northland sweater from Petite Knit for my husband for x-mas in a stripe design a made up from the Marni striped sweater Q wore in the last James Bond (no time to die), I love her designs.
The No Frills Sweater was my first full sweater I knit - it was a gift for my mom and I found it was a really accessible pattern that was easy to modify fit wise! I knit it up in a single strand DK and thought it turned out really well. I'll definitely make another for myself!
Me sitting here scrolling on TH-cam, avoiding the second sleeve syndrome of my No Frills Sweater, only to see this video. Ok Crafty Universe, I get the point. 😊 Back to my knitting.
I have knit this pattern and love the finished garment. It's easy to wear and style and fits great. I do remember being a little upset at the cost vs what's provided in the pattern. I found the writing to be lacking. However, the end product was everything I needed it to be and then some.
I watched this while knitting the bottom ribbing on my first No Frills. I'm using a fingering held double, and since my gauge tends to be tight, getting gauge spot on. I heartily agree with all of your PROs, and appreciate that you sought out some CONs/caveats. I'm already planning my next one, as well as my second Champagne Cardigan by PK; the double knit button band is worth the fuss. I think the number of project posted to Ravelry speaks to the versatility of the finished garment as well as the clarity of the pattern and the elegant process. Stockinette Forever definitely lends itself to TV or road trip knitting. Thank you for such a great TH-cam Channel!!!! I hope your son's school principal understands that travel can be an excellent education in addition to classroom time. ❤
Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment. Especially the bit about my son. She was very understanding and also shares our values as they relate to traveling as a family. As for your thoughts on the PK patterns, I love that you share your opinion on the button band on the cardigan. It's such a fantastic looking garment and the button band does so much to lend that bit of polish. I can imagine it's definitely worth the time.
I made mine with Mohair and Merino from McMullen Fibers that I picked up at the Carolina Fiberfest in 2019 but didn’t knit it till Jan 2022. I took it on my trip to Japan and it was great for mindless knitting on the plane while I watched movies. Now I prefer Suri, so I will be knitting my next one with that. I also felt like the body took quite a while. It always does for me because I have a long torso and have to add a few extra inches. But it was definitely worth all the time I put into it.
Thank you for this detailed review! I was asking myself just yesterday if I should knit this sweater. As I began knitting just a little over a year ago, your explanations are very helpful, it helps me comprehend the pattern and the construction of the sweater. So, again, thank you! 😊
This video was so fun and cozy and friendly, exactly what I needed today! Its so fun to feel like the person you’re watching was having fun in their element while making it! ❤
lol. Yes it is very much appreciated! I love to see different ways to wear things. But that sweater, or I should say the yarn you used, the color, is gorgeous, knock my socks off, out of this world gorgeous. That sweater will look good with anything. You hit it out of the park with the color. I love Petit Knits patterns, and this sweater is a big winner. The neck line is nice, but I've increased the neckline on some of my sweaters and you can have a nice wide neckline and it changes the look with out any effort.
Just about to knit this sweater and I appreciate your commentary on it! One thing I've found about mohair (full disclosure, I'm a fan of it), is that it somehow helps makes your stockinette stitches look so even. It works so well doing that, that I sometimes find ways to incorporate it because it makes your stitches look so good.
The No Frills is just a well designed and written pattern. This is my most worn sweater. You are 100% right about the versatility. I did mine in a light neutral color and it literally goes with everything. There is a reason it is so popular on Rav. I knitted mine in a solid color non-superwash merino and silk mohair held together. I adore everything about it. The “mindless” relaxed knitting of it, and the easy construction. 10 out of 10 I will be making this again and again.
Fabulous review. I have yet to knit a Petite knits pattern having seen other similar patterns but your rapturous review has me considering this pattern 😊
This looks really similar to the “Basic Raglan Pullover” by Joji Locatelli. It was the pattern used at a “Knit your first sweater” course at my local yarn store. A perfect introduction to the intimidating world of sweater-knitting.
Hello hello hello from germany🎉. I knitted the sweater for the Mrs. Weasleys x- mas sweater as an rezepy. Sure many pattern has been written like this before. I don‘t like german written pattern , but this once of petit knitt are well written and simple. I also like the fit of an raglan pulli and the fact you can try it on while you go. Nicki❤
I would love to hear you compare the No Frills to the Felix, trying to decide which one to make. Please consider doing it. Love watching your videos!!!
I am planning to knit this with Mad Tosh, Tosh Sock, in colorway Bronze Age. 100% merino. It doesn’t say it’s superwash so I am hoping it is not. I’ll knit with black mohair. Looking forward to knitting this sweater. Thanks for your review.
I made this sweater with John Arbon Devonia 4ply in Ivy. ( Wensleydale and Romney combo). This is by far my favourite sweater. I will definitely make an other one.
Such a funny and creative video, I really had some good chuckles. As a knitter from Europe since 48 years, I must say though I could never knit while reading ;-), the outcome would be not acceptable, hahahaha. Best regards!
Now I’m curious who would win if you had the No Frills go up against the Felix Pullover 🤔 Anyway, this video has peaked my interest in the No Frills Sweater! Thank you!
Literally knit my first one in 100% acrylic dk in case I didn’t like like it! Then I knit a mohair/fingering one that would cost like 4x as much lol. The acrylic one seriously felt like a sweatshirt! Love all three that I’ve made! Third was just a dk sw merino that I love too! It’s a great pattern!
This video came at a great time - I started knitting this sweater before I had my first baby and 16months later felt ready to jump back into knitting (and finally had some free time!). But when I came back to it and tried it on I thought wow this feels like a mess - this video reminded me of why I was interested in the sweater and that blocking might help turn this lumpy crumpled project into something great. Motivated to finish the final sleeve!
I love this sweater. I have made 3 of them. I make mine a bit oversized and wear them over my workout clothes in the morning as my sweatshirt. I teach PE and always wear workout clothes. It’s nice to throw a pretty sweater on rather than just another sweatshirt. Also, just so fast and easy to make!
Fabulous video - thank you. I knit the No Frills Sweater a couple of years ago using Holst Garn Supersoft and Titicaca held together. I’m a more mature woman with a fuller figure so made the mistake of knitting it too large. I’ve now got a less fuller figure so I’m planning a new sweater, probably with KFO merino/mohair silk.
I have made it and it's one of my most worn sweaters. I used a special yarn with mohair and always feel v posh when I wear it. And I also want to make another this year. Hands down the best fit of any sweater I've made ... so far
I recently knit the PetiteKnit Cumulus Tee O-Neck in an off-white color and have already worn it a lot more than some of the "fancier" lace tops I have knitted. I was considering starting a simpler long sleeved sweater and since I just happened to come across your review of the No Frills Sweater, I might just try that one.
One more aspect: the price. Mette is a very precise and successful designer. When you buy a pattern, you know what to do exactly. Even as a very beginner. I live in Europe and the price for all designs is still 6,98 Euro. There are a lot of simple patterns more expensive out there. Thank you again for your podcast, love to hear and see you from the middle of Germany.
Great podcast - thank you. I love my No frills sweater. The other one which is also a simple classic shape is the Lento sweater. Have you knitted that one? It may be fun to compare them.
Loved seeing all the different ways you can style your sweater! Super cute & fun! I wish you had addressed the size range in the pattern. I think that a wide size range would be pro of the pattern, while a limited size range would be a con. Might be a good detail to include if you do any future sweater pattern reviews. Thanks for all your wonderful content!
I agree, I won't make this sweater because it's not available in my size. I could make it for someone else but why would I pay for an adult pattern I could never wear?
Ooh, you have me drooling for that sweater. Not sure I had a sweater on my 2025 bingo card, but it could happen! I may even have yarn for it in stash. Thanks for sharing!
Aha! I’ve been looking for a sweater to try knitting with fingering and mohair together. I really need a simple, top down raglan sweater. Thank you for doing a review of this pattern. ❤
I love my no frills sweater and am making a second! I think the fingering and mohair combo is key to my love of it. great pros and cons. It is a bit of a slog at times...
At 19:38, something to knit "while we read"... 🤯 lol, THAT would be a disaster on my needles! Thanks so much for the review. I have this one in my favorites on Ravelry, but I have to start with something else as my first sweater. This will be my second, though!
I honestly love her patterns, but maybe because her patterns are my aesthetic. I made the Friday slipover and the instructions were crystal clear and it is my favorite sweater/vest.
I have a sweater’s quantity of fingering weight and mohair yarn I purchased on vacation last summer. I’ve been trying to decide on which pattern - your review has me leaning towards the No Frills Sweater. I knit the Sunday Sweater by the same designer in handspun and it’s such a comfortable and stylish sweater. Thanks for a great review! Running out to buy overalls tomorrow 😂
This is definitely a lovely pattern. I try not to buy too many petite knit patterns and support smaller designers. But I do own this one from early in my knitting journey. I don’t actually love knitting raglans but this pattern was in my queue for a while. Your yarn combo is beautiful! I ended up knitting the Semper instead but it’s relatively similar.
I have the pattern. I have the yarn, subbing the mohair for suri alpaca. I've seen some beautiful examples with the brand of suri I got. But after having a series of Christmas hats to knit (11), I don't know if I'm ready for a project that will take me over a week. The dopamine rushes of a well-planned project and of a finished project are what I live for.
Love the mug, Matey! I just happen to be rereading Treasure Island for the umpteenth time, so Jolly Rodger really caught my eye. Might just be me, but I never understood the “front tuck.” And you are def the Cool Mom
I’m inspired to make one now! It is lovely… btw, as a Dane and with a sister with the same first name, thought I’d alert you that Mette is not pronounces Met but more like Meh-teh with an emphasis on the first syllable.
So I just posted a comment which appears to have vanished, and I came back on to make a correction, which I will do now just in case it reappears. In my comment I mentioned the Turtle Dove range of patterns by Espace Tricot which are free I believe. A lovely range of raglan garments, for any one who might by interested. (In my original comment, I wrongly stated that they were by Purl Soho) I also wanted to thank you Taylor for reminding me that I had purchased and had the No Frills Sweater in my queue for nearly five years! I have printed it off today and hope to start it soon. Yours looks great, and I appreciate the modelling! 👍❤
Today I'm sharing my opinion about and some pros and cons for the No Frills sweater by PetiteKnit. Enjoy!
One of the last things I expected when I started watching this video was you doing a fashion show while drinking from the skulls of your enemies. But I'm here for it!
For one night only! 💀
This was also not on my 2025 bingo card.... but I'm SO GLAD she graced us with this!!!
I think I feel a
No Frills Sweater KAL coming!!!! I wanna make this one!

YES! Pairing yarns like this adds up and using other folks' project pages on Ravelry is such a great way to find more budget friendly options.
Thank you for addressing yarn substitution for those of us who can’t wear mohair. You’ve convinced me to take the plunge on the No Frills for my first sweater.🙏🏻💕

You are a hoot when you were trying different ways to wear the sweater hahaha!
Now I want to knit the sweater lol
Good podcast you started my morning off on a great note today !!!
Love ya until next pod 🥰💕
Loved the fashion show, made me laugh out loud ❤
I've knit this sweater 3 times in 3 years, such a great staple 😊
I laughed so much, you were adorable when trying on the different clothes.
Come for the knitting (even though I'm a crocheter 😆), stay for the fashion show! I'm on the lookout for a simple knit sweater pattern, perhaps with video support, for my first knit wearable, so watching with interest!
I would recommend the Hello Friend vest. It’s very hand holding that’s what I plan in making next.
@@j_filippo Thanks for the tip! 🧶
I’m currently knitting the No Frills sweater and it’s been such a quick and straightforward knit. I can’t wait to finish it and wear it!
Loved the enthusiastic fashion show 😄 I knit a no frills sweater for my daughter and I used a merino/alpaca blend yarn I picked up from Joann’s for it. I’ve been happy with the results and she loves the sweater too.
Thanks Taylor for the humour in this video! Your fashion show was a hoot!
Ok Not gonna lie….the overalls sent me RUNNING to my yarn stash for this pattern!!!!!
Me too!!!
I must request more “fit checks” by Tayler. Probably one of my favorite bits that you have done!
This might be my favorite WNH video ever.
The fashion show segment with all of your knits ever... That's a video I'd watch 😅
Yay! Thank you!!
I love the simplicity of PetiteKnit designs and I think this is another example of her classic style. I am definitely going to put it on my wish list of knits! I absolutely loved this video, I really hope you do more like this! Thank you so much for sharing🥰
I agree, her designs are so timeless. I'm excited to see what else I can do in this format, so stay tuned!
Thank you for sharing your thoughtful feedback on this pattern and for making me laugh on a Monday morning. :) As a child of the 90s who is thrilled that overalls are back (and owns three pair), I approve your No Frills/overall ensemble. :)
Thanks for the love! And yes, overalls are the best! 😄

❤ I'm just 😂... Your fashion show made my day. Thank you for this video. I'm on the hunt for my first sweater pattern.
I got influenced by you a year ago and now no frills has become my go to sweater recipe if I want to alter something!
The whimsy in this video had me laughing, thank you for that!

I’m so glad you’re having such a good experience with the pattern. It sounds like a great choice for your second project!
The anticipation of knowing what yarn you'll be using for a new No Frills makes me immediately want to buy yarn for a No Frills sweater
Watching this as I am knitting this exact sweater :D
I love this sweater too. It looked great with everything you paired it with. It would be great to have this pattern in two different sweaters!

Yes! So glad this is helping urge you on. You won't be sorry!
I also have a single-sleeved No Frills on the needles at the moment... This lit the fire under me to get it finished!

I am here for the overalls and sweater! 😂

That skirt with it is beautiful!
Nicki❤
Oh Man! You had me at "Overalls"!!! I just wish I had a pair!
I would love to hear you compare the No Frills to the Felix, trying to decide which one to make. Please consider doing it. Love watching your videos!!!
I love that idea actually.❤️❤️
@@janetretzer4869 I absolutely ditto this idea!! I’m between these 2 patterns for my first sweater. A comparison would be helpful!
Very lovely sweater. I still have not knit a sweater! 🌻🌵
I am planning to knit this with Mad Tosh, Tosh Sock, in colorway Bronze Age. 100% merino. It doesn’t say it’s superwash so I am hoping it is not. I’ll knit with black mohair. Looking forward to knitting this sweater. Thanks for your review.
This sweater seems very similar to the Tolsta Tee by Creabea. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your response.
This was in my to do list for a long time, I must buy the pattern...if only I could knit as perfect as Petit knit does...❤
You should totally give it a try. It's such a wonderful sweater to wear. ❤️
OMG I love the whole vibe. The👏whole👏vibe👏.
Hands down the best fit of any sweater I've made ... so far
100% agree. ❤️
I think you should wear the No Frills sweater with the overalls at the meeting with the principal 🤪
The sweater is beautiful. The yarn is gorgeous. I would love to knit this but only if I could buy the same yarn.
Man, you have convinced me... I need to make one. I have a friend's birthday coming up and it will be perfect!
Well said!
The fashion show😂😂😂😂 I cant even!!!
Love the fashion show and now I have to knit this sweater! 😂😍😍
Aha! I’ve been looking for a sweater to try knitting with fingering and mohair together. I really need a simple, top down raglan sweater. Thank you for doing a review of this pattern. ❤
I loved your video! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the no-frills sweater!
I love my no frills sweater and am making a second! I think the fingering and mohair combo is key to my love of it. great pros and cons. It is a bit of a slog at times...
This is exactly how i feel about her aros sweater. It's a staple for me
Taylor you are so stinking cute with all your ways to wear that sweater. I really love the bibs with it. I can totally see my girls doing that
At 19:38, something to knit "while we read"... 🤯 lol, THAT would be a disaster on my needles! Thanks so much for the review. I have this one in my favorites on Ravelry, but I have to start with something else as my first sweater. This will be my second, though!
Also love the pattern review and knitfits.
Can you compare and contrast No Frills with Felix? I understand stand NF is DK and Felix is Aran but both are simple and I know you have knitted both.
I was going to ask the same thing. Felix or No Frills! Hope she answers this.
New Sub here. I love that you popped up in my feed. You’re fun to watch and I loved the fashion show, especially the overalls! 😂
Welcome! So glad you're here. I'm off to go check out your channel. ❤️
Fashion show is very appreciated! This was my first sweater, I love it!
You were so cute and funny in this video....hahaha...my fave!!!
Love the mug, Matey! I just happen to be rereading Treasure Island for the umpteenth time, so Jolly Rodger really caught my eye.
Might just be me, but I never understood the “front tuck.”
And you are def the Cool Mom
😘 Enjoy Treasure Island!
You are hilarious, the fashion show was entertaining 😊
Thank you! 😊
I’m inspired to make one now! It is lovely… btw, as a Dane and with a sister with the same first name, thought I’d alert you that Mette is not pronounces Met but more like Meh-teh with an emphasis on the first syllable.
Love her aesthetic in her patterns. Being a less svelte figure, I'm curious as to how this pattern works with those of us with larger sizes.
