    EXTENDED TO MAY 31ST!!!
I LOVE BOOKS AND SOCK KNITTING KAL 2024
    Details:
-The goal is to knit socks while consuming books, via eyes or ears. (phsyical books and audiobooks)
-This is a participatory KAL so the number of books consumed and socks knit is up to you. No pressure to finish anything.
-All genres and types of socks are permitted
-SIPs (socks in progress) are welcome
    -All yarn weights are welcome
-The KAL will run in my Ravelry group (yes, it’s been revised and renewed and is up and running) & on Instagram
    -The official hashtag is #ilovebooksandsockknittingkal24
-Not required but would be fun to match your book title/genre to the colorway or pattern of your sock
I will pick 2 winners, one from Ravelry and one from Instagram at the end of the KAL as a thank you for participating. I don’t want the focus to be on prizes but on our love books and sock knitting.
Please share your favorite books, sock patterns, yarn dyers, book stores, etc with us. There are threads ready in the Ravelry group.

You should not have to apologize for your reaction to what you read. Sometimes people need to be mature enough to know that we all need to handle our own issues.

I do not like the fact that someone made you feel like you had to apologize for a book review. Oh my goodness …
You are lovely inside and out. Please do not bend to those who make you feel like you did something wrong. It’s life. We all need to put on our big girl pants and live it!!!! Love your videos. Keep them coming 😊

Agree! You said it better than I could. We all have choices and the autonomy to not participate in something if it’s too difficult to hear. What makes me frustrated for Denise is that she is so thoughtful and consistently aware of everything and while I cannot determine what is upsetting to others and I don’t discount them, she did preface her review with the fact that there were some topics that were heavier and she didn’t have to do that. Books and knitting; the community that has come around this KAL has been so incredibly inspiring and that she extended it through my 42nd birthday on the 31st feels like a personal gift to me 😂. The whole KAL has been so neat to see what people are reading and knitting together and I know Christopher at Flannel and Purls has been inspired as well. Let’s keep something so lovely wrapped up in the love. Why there is a need in our society to take something so lovely and find something “wrong” with it is getting reductive. Let’s enjoy something that helps us all take a moment out of the busy hustle and bustle of life to slow down and take better care of ourselves. Denise, keep being your joyful, beautiful self. Your soul is so needed in this world. Thank you for starting out my Saturday with such a lovely podcast and reminding us all to get outside, take in life in all its beautiful moments and cherish them.

You have such a good and tender heart. We live in a very censored world these days and I hope you don’t ever feel the need to not express how a book affects you. Books invoke feelings in all of us, good and difficult. It would be impossible for you to know about each of us as individuals. Everyone who is sharing books open the world to new thought and ideas and I appreciate seeing all of them.

Hold it a minute! You don’t need to apologize for anything you say on your channel. People would never speak and express themselves if we always were worried that someone may be offended by what we say. Keep up the great work! I love your channel!

Gosh, you are such a breath of fresh air. You are so incredibly respectful and supportive, even in the face of someone making you feel you need to apologize for an honest book review. Anything can be triggering for anybody. It is what it is. I love how you handled it. You always take the high road. As for this podcast, I find myself looking forward to what you have to say about books and socks because both are my jam. We have been reading the same books, so it’s super fun to hear your thoughts! Thank you for providing such a fun (and wholesome) outlet! 🧶 📚

I love books as I do knitting/crocheting projects. I can't get done fast enough so I can get into the next one! Thank you for all the book reviews.. love that. it's so wonderful that you have book time with your son. I miss reading to my children and grandchildren... was a lovely memory for me (I'm now 73 and they are all doing their own things). I would never be offended by anything you said. It's not personal, not about me.. please continue how you are and how you do things. It's lovely and so are you. Sending love, hugs, prayers

You should never have to apologize for your thoughts, reactions or opinions on a book. People need to grow up and realize that they can fast forward or stop watching things that they can’t deal with. Libby is a wonderful library source. Some of my girls loved the book “Hatchet”. Apparently it’s a series, looks like there are five books in the series. I just discovered this so I’m going to have to let my kids who enjoyed that book know.

I’ve always enjoyed your podcasts and tutorials. Adding books and book reviews has taken this to a whole new level for me. 📚 🧦 I looked for ‘The Little Village of Book Lovers’ at my local library. They did not have that one, so I checked out Nina George’s ‘The Little Paris Bookshop.’ Five-⭐️ books are added to my growing list of books to own. That book is definitely going to find a place on my home shelves. I read and enjoyed ‘The Echo of Old Books’ a few months ago. I jumped back-and-forth between the audio and ebook for the reasons you mentioned. Between you and Nicole, from the Pine Cottage podcast, my reading list is growing and growing. 😍 Thank you for adding joy to my morning.

I just love your energy! You really inspire me to put down other knitting just to knit a sock. I am listening to a historical fiction call “First Ladies” I would recommend anyone to listen to it. I’m not a historical book fan, but this is turning me into one. I saw “The Echo of old Books” and was thinking about purchasing it. I’m glad you recommended it. Thanks for reading my long comment. Looking forward to your new pattern soon.

Yay! I am so happy you are extending the KAL for another month. Thank you! It is keeping me going at the moment!
I appreciate a heads up on darker content in books so thank you. I thought you did a good job of giving a warning without being too graphic. It is difficult to give a trigger warning to people if they are triggered by the warning.
If a book isn't floppy enough to stay open so I can read and knit at the same time, I try to get ebook or audio. Sometimes the ebook will be on sale and if I can get a cheap copy I might do that or borrow from library or Everand (used to be Scribd). If I can't do that then I'll alternate and read for a bit then knit for a bit.

I love your KAL. I must admit that I don't coordinate reading a particular book to what I am knitting. I converted to a Kindle years ago. I do not usually have to watch my knitting, so I can read and knit. I have been doing that for 14 years. If my knitting is too complicated to read and knit-I switch to Audible. LOL! I also love to knit while I watch TH-cam or Netflix. I love your KAL, and am knitting and reading. Along the same vein as The Little Wartime Library and her newest book is 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'. It is on Audible, and is a pleasure to read.

Gold bless you, Denise. You'll never, ever please everybody...ever. You do you and that's what's important. I'm grateful that you take the time to share your making and reading in a podcast. I'm working at a library book sale at the end of the month and will be keeping an eye out for some of the books you mentioned. I too love, love, love historical fiction and am always on the lookout for new authors and titles. It's a "free will" book sale so my donation brings home a lot of books at the end of the day. It makes me so dang happy.
I love all of your finished socks, your WIPs, and your enthusiasm. I need to get my sock knitting motor running again...I really, really do.
Oh....the book I chose for the KAL that I finished before the socks and very highly recommend to you is "Eternal" by Lisa Scottoline. I've always love her suspense books. This is her first foray into historical fiction and I sure hope it's not her last. It's set in the 1930's in Italy during the German occupation. Amazing, amazing story.......

The fact that you apologized, and the triggered person said, "I know but..." 😒....not sorry to say that person needs to stop wasting energy making everyone else pay for whatever happened to them, and instead use that energy to learn how to cope with their trauma. They should not make it your trauma, especially when you prefaced your review with a warning.

You mentioned abuse and treatment of them, but never really got detailed about it. I did not know what the abuse was, it could have been bullying or being outcast, or could have been darker.

Perhaps you could rearrange your podcasts to have the first section only about your knitting, with the end being your readings and opinions on such. Then those who MAY find issue with topics discussed can end their viewing early? Just a thought as it could be easier for you to not worry if you've discussed sensitive subjects..they would already be separated out.

Love your videos...please don't change your format or commentary. Sock question: if using a perfectly matched self-striping yarn (a la Must Stash) and you choose to use the self-striping yarn for the heel, will the striping continue to match? My brain tells me that it should, but is that true?

    • @EarthtonesgirlPodcast
      @EarthtonesgirlPodcast  หลายเดือนก่อน

Your brain is not wrong however I would knit an afterthought heel so I don't interrupt the stripes and I would pull from the opposite end of the ball for the heel. Again, so you don't interrupt the striping sequence. Does that make sense?

Re your review of The Women, it was just that - a review. I don’t think professional book reviewers apologize for what they write, and you need not apologize for what you say. We cannot be so sensitive that we are triggered by something someone else said about a book. What is the world coming to? For read-alouds, I was a fifth grade teacher for many years, and I read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane many times. For lighter fare, I read Fat Men From Space, and my students enjoyed it every year. I always had a tendency to act the stories that I read, rather than narrate. I always got very caught up in the story and my students' reaction to it. I read the Harry Potter series one book behind my son, and we talked a lot about them. He went on to read them many times, and I reread the series once. I also read The Rest of the Story, which was short tales about famous people before they were famous by Paul Harvey, who used to read these short accounts on PBS. You only need to select stories to be about people your son would recognize, when "the rest of the story" is revealed. Happy reading and knitting!

You are such a sweet, compassionate person! I don’t think you need to apologize for anything you say, though I know you don’t want to hurt anyone. I don’t know the situation that triggered this person, but it’s annoying that some people use being triggered as a way to control what others do and say. She was triggered. You apologized. That should end it. If she finds you triggering, maybe she needs to follow a different person.
