7:15 the important line here is "princess Azula promised we would go back to the fire nation as soon as we captured the Avatar", which convinces Long Feng that they're not a threat to Basing Se itself.

Episodes like this really make you appreciate the writers and creators of this show doing their work. The whole scene with Aang and discussion of the chakras derives from Hinduism and Buddhism which is what the air nomads are based on. If you lookup the chakras you can see all the similarities used here, but it's really fantastic how this played out. the transition from that to Toph discovering metalbending was sick.

The Toph scene is damn near one of favourites from the whole show 😂

My theory about the chakras. It's not about not allowing yourself to feel emotions. It's about not letting your emotions control you.

Hi, I’m watching this after you finished the series, but you mentioned bumi and toph fighting together, and while they don’t fight together, in the comics just before the finale they start fighting over who is the best earthbender, and they were equally matched, but they were bending so much Earth that the mountain they were on started to split apart, so the white lotus and the rest of the gaang had to stop the fight. Basically, 12 year old Toph, without using metalbending, stalemated bumi.

There was an unused Dream Sequence in this episode when Aang was trying to unlock his air Chakra.
He's flying on a Bison with Monk Gyatso and the two of them throw Fruit Pies at a group of airbenders in training they laugh about it before Aang turns back to Gyatso only to see him as a skeleton before the dream ends.

I find it interesting that reactors tend to look down on the King for "spilling the beans". Sokka had just told him the Kyoshi Warriors are friends and can be trusted, so he had no reason not to tell them the plan. Noone who would have recognized that Azula's team are impostors was there to tell him they were the enemy.

Such a packed episode, and one of my favourites, 7th in the show to be exact. The part with Aang and the Guru is up there among my favourite parts of the show. About the last chakra, a lot of people get a bit confused about it. Guru Pathik isn't saying that Aang can't love Katara, but that he has to be able to let go of his attachments for his duty as the Avatar, if necessary.

"Don't you two dunderheads ever forget it" the way they work around the word shitheads here lol. If this wasn't a kid's show toph would swear so much.
so in naruto the eight gates aren't the same but they are similar in some ways. The idea is that normally your body can only use 20% or so of it's strength (bc the brain is protecting it from overexertion), and the gates are the blocks of energy. You can open the gates to go past your limits but it can be bad for your body. In atla it's a more spiritual and emotional journey - they stay open and don't harm you - but it's similar in that they're both about the flow of energy.
Also I just thought about how the guru talking about the four nations being one is another parallel he has with the swamp guy
