  • The holy trinity of pet owner myths:
    1. Dawn Dishwashing detergent(see other video)
    2. Vinegar-vinegar is acid but it is not going to kill bacteria or yeast. It will not solve a skin problem. You can make a homemade cleaner for ears with vinegar and water (but not if there is a sore or wound).
    3. Coconut oil- it won't hurt but it really won't help your dog's skin and it does get messy.

I've never heard of using vinegar on a dog, but I have about coconut oil. I personally use coconut oil on my dogs skin as needed. He has been on every medication out there for allergies and eczema and medicated shampoos. He did so much better after I took him off of all of it and started using oatmeal based shampoos along with coconut oil for an added moisturizer before bathing as needed and spot treatment for sores. I was skeptical at first when a friend suggested using coconut oil, I didn't think it would do anything. So I did my own testing with my dog to see if sores did better with or without coconut oil and I quickly changed my mind about it. It does help with moisturizing, itching, irriation, and swelling. Two sore spots, one without kept it's red irritated ring around the sore and swelling, one with the oil quickly lost its red irritated ring and swelling went down and the skin was 90% healed in less than 30 hrs. Please don't take any one persons word on what you should or shouldn't use because each dog and each skin condition is different. Your dog is worth trying anything to help it's quality of life.
