Need to check any appliance is rated to 110 to 230v and belt and braises match the fuse to the wattage using watts equals volts *amps. Save a burn out

    Noted Blue is neutral and Brown is Live. What will happen when we insert wrongly into the plug meaning Brown wire inserted into the neutral hole. Any consequence once we turn on the power?

    • @ThePunggolHandyMan
      @ThePunggolHandyMan  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm this case no. Houses run on AC or alternating current, means that the power flows both ways. So no for a 2 pin to 3 pin conversion it does not matter

    • @okaro6595
      @okaro6595 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will work but of for example there is a switch in the cable it will cut the neutral and there is voltage still in the device. If you for example removed the bulb from a lamp and stuck your fingers inside you could get shocked even if the switch is off.

    I guess this same logic also apply to 2 core to 3 core wire extension into 3 pin plug right?

  • @kriskhaira
    @kriskhaira ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess the downside of this is it can give a false impression to other users of the appliance that it is grounded since it is now a 3-pin UK plug but the ground pin is not serving a purpose as per 3-pin specs. Do you think converting it to the UK 2-pin plug will also work here?

    • @ThePunggolHandyMan
      @ThePunggolHandyMan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea that would be a much easier process by cutting and splicing the wires together followed by heat shrink tubing.
      If you observe closely at some appliances which come with the UK 3 pin plug, many of them have false ground pins to open up the socket gates.

    • @kriskhaira
      @kriskhaira ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ThePunggolHandyMan Yes I've seen them. The false ground pins are usually made of some kind of plastic. IMO there should be a colour code and manufacturers should be required to colour-code them differently so people know it's a false ground pin.

    The issue of ground/earth is not covered enough. What if the appliance being converted has lots of metal parts that a user could touch while using the device. How does earthing work two pin countries? None have a dedicated earth cable (2-pin!). This is unclear and never addressed in any of these videos. You also need me on fusing.

    I do use a travel adapter for my toothbrush but it is a decent one with safety shutters and provides a secure fit as good as any wall outlet (lencent brand). However for anything that has a replaceable cord (IEC C5 C7 C13) standard i will just buy a new power cord from a reputable OEM (E.g linetek, I-Sheng, Volex, Longwell, Lindy).
    Also since i am studying/working in Australia, wall adapters makes the whole plug assembly bulky, adds bulk to my bag and it becomes a problem if it clashes with other plugs on the same 2 way outlet/powerstrip or if the socket is located under a floorboard cover.
    Then when I travel back to Singapore, I just swap the cables for the Singapore/UK 3 pin plug types that I use on my laptop adapter (IEC C5 cord) and Ugreen GaN multiport charger (IEC C7 cord). So ultimately a travel adapter is good for short term use like on holidays/exchange but not for long term.

    • @ThePunggolHandyMan
      @ThePunggolHandyMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't change a 16A plug to a 13A plug. As the fuse may melt if the demand is too high. If you change the fuse in the plug to 16A you may cause damage to your circuit if it is not rated for 13A. That's why the plugs are different. It's so that you do not connect a 16A appliance to a 13A circuit

      @@lt4041 no need to swap to 3A fuse. Also no it's not right to fold over on the insulation. If the exposed wires are too long you should trim it. If too thin you can twist more to make it thicker. But if u fold over you risk melting the insulation as the contact points get hot
