As usual, the quality divide between _Sonic Robo Blast_ and _Sonic Robo Blast 2_ is night and day.

I think in the making of sonic robo blast there was 1 developer who was drunk but sonic robo blast 2 there was more then 100 Developers and 0 were drunk.

I used to play this game a ton as a kid. Man it has aged like spoiled milk! Someone should make an HD remake of it since it's kinda historic... but hey, we still have SRB2, which might be getting an update soon.

So apparently there's a remake in the works, with a demo of the first zone (Knothole Coast), available to download! And boy howdy, is the difference night and day - it's got a real Sonic Mania feel to it, and it brings in various gameplay elements from SRB2 to boot.

Yes, you need a certain ammount of emblems + finish the game at least once (with any character)
But there's no bosses, the gameplay is really simple (maybe better than the actual SRB1) and you need to do every stages in one sitting before accessing the level select
Or you could install a wad called srb2 hub and access the Srb 1 levels there 🎟
Who would've thought, that this would spark not only one of the greatest Sonic fan-game sequel, but also one of the greatest kart racing game (SRB2K)?

I know that this video is technically old, but did you know that Sonikku was actually a KID when he made SRB1? To be honest, that actually explains the terrible graphics, also, the Killing Dead glitch is actually because of an animation bug since Sonic's sprites are different sizes, I learned that from the commentary video for the upcoming SRB1 1.4 (Just in case you don't know, it's not being developed by Sonikku).
This was also a game made before it was easy to find spritesheets of pre existing games

Sonic Robo Blast 1 is much more obscure than SRB2 and also it's aged pretty bad, given that this was early in the days of Sonic fan games.

Well, they stopped calling the versions demos or "final demo" back in 2009 when V2.0 released. I think saying you're waiting "until it's finished" misunderstands what SRB2 is.
Although from what I've seen, V2.2 is going to make some big changes.
Yeah, the sequel is 100x better than the first one. Even uses a modified Doom engine.
Yeah, wait for slopes to get added into levels before you jump in, but once they do it should be a prime time to dig into it.

After that the devs made Sonic Robo Blast 2 and 20 years later, it's still in somewhat active development. 20 YEARS!

Apparently there's going to be an update for SRB1 coming out soon that allows it to match the quality of its sequel.

There's now a 2020 remake of SRB1 that looks 10x better than the original, it even has Sonic seeing his earless self at the startup logo (yes, it's now dubbed as earless Sonic), you can even play as earless sonic from the OG RB, it even has the killing dead to go with it. So far only Knothole Zone is finished and playable, given the Sonic Mania treatment with original music, and more

The earliest versions of SRB2 were pretty rough too, its just that passion and potential lead to it getting numerous updates over the last 20 years.
I mean just go look at Castle Eggman in demo 4 vs Castle Eggman in current day.

Hey, it's that midi remix! The one from a custom campaign noone knows from a game noone knows on the second to last level right after the failable puzzle level and a number of other quite difficult levels where you can be forced to do the finale with nothing!
(For the record, Descent 2's The Lost Levels is actually a pretty decent campaign)
That glitch you described is pretty much impossible to fix in Games Factory 1 (the engine used to make this game). I remember a bunch of games having the same exact glitch 🤔
I just happened across robo blast 2 and I was waiting for the real first one to come up...any moment now., wait THIS IS IT?!
8:30 I can sort of explain why this happens since I sometimes make games using the same software as SRB. So when the application gets stressed while music is playing, things stop without inputs. It's quite annoying, so just restart the program.

All these guys are right, Robo Blast 2 is MUCH better than the first one. And honestly, if you’re going to wait until the game is “finished”, then you’d probably never look at it since it’s always updating. In fact, reviewing the game at all is a tough challenge BECAUSE it’s constantly changing with each update.

I think you "killing dead" glitch happens because you move through the enemies faster than they die so you still get hit before their hit box disappears. I dunno though, I'm not a programmer.
