    Around 6.33 your explanation is fantastic. Makes sense. So true. I was thinking this too. When you are running so fast you shouldnt have to be thinking about every leg cycle movement etc.
    Your training should make your body improve and make the form become second nature ................over a period of time. Have faith in your training and things will fall into place with good training.
    Keep up the great work. :)

      Exactly man, so many people get way to technical when they are racing...you work on this stuff in practice and then during a race, you just compete. Lots more videos coming so stay tuned!

    100m The best looking form is having the start from Asafa Powell. The drive phase from Maurice Greene. The transition phase from Justin Gatlin. Floating phase from Tyson Gay and top end speed from Usain Bolt. If there is a human, with these combined. Probably a 9.2's What do you think?

  • @infiniteimprovement
    @infiniteimprovement 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love your videos man. Hey I have a question, if I did a bunch of cardio over the summer like 20 miles a week, as well with some strength training and sprints, will that hurt me as a sprinter. I'm thinking of joining cross country's workouts in the summer when they run. Besides the fact that I might die (I've never run more than 2 miles at once before), would that hurt me sprinter wise, or would it help make me even faster. Keep in mind I will also be doing sprints and strength training as well.

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Isaac Royal I always tell people, if you're a true sprinter (compete in events 400 and down) then I wouldn't recommend running cross country. In the summer and off season you'd be much better off lifting and getting stronger and putting on muscle and just doing some light cardio now and then so your body has a chance to recover. I played football in highschool so I didn't do any track style running at all. Just lifting and football practice.

    • @infiniteimprovement
      @infiniteimprovement 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jaret Campisi alright cool. I already play football. It's just one of my bigger weaknesses is stamina, and I'm thinking about trying the 400 next year. But the problem is atm my 400 would be like 200 times two and adding 10+ seconds, which is really bad. But all my coaches want me to try the 400 because I "look like a 400 runner" and it takes me a while to build up my speed. and in 100/200 I could beat most of our school's best 400 runners, who make it to state, so on paper I should be a good 400 runner, but in execution I'm not at least not atm. It also doesn't help I have asthma lol.

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Isaac Royal haha well honestly, if you wanted to do cross country you could let the coach know you're doing it as training for track and maybe do like half the distance of their workouts or something. It would help to increase your stamina but you'd just want to be careful you're not putting in too many miles to ruin your fast twitch fibers.

    • @infiniteimprovement
      @infiniteimprovement 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaret Campisi alright, I think I might just join them on their "speed days" I would just like do my own workout on the side, but I kinda want to run with someone to push me you know, thanks for the help man.

    I started to watch ur videos when I wanted to know how to run the 400m , I got 2 seconds faster after that , I am from HK , hummm ... , I don't know what to say to thank you becuz I thought that u might be told a lot to keep it going , I want to make it more creative 😂 . I ran the 400m quiet slow , my personal best is only 1:08 , do u think I can go under 60 s in half a year ?

    Shit, you came real quick with this video. Great job, thanks so much. I know this isn't your area of speciality, but I have cross country(4km) race in two days. I haven't been doing any endurance training for two weeks, and just the smallest level of physical activity makes me start puffing. Is there anything I can do with such short time left other than dig into the depth of my mental strength and tough it out? Any tips?

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Maserati Messi just start out the race slow and try to get in a solid rhythm and go from there. If you feel good slowly pick it up and if not, you're just gonna have to tough it out.

      +Maserati Messi yes driving at your elbows is another good cue for running correctly, forgot to mention that one.

    • @kingkobe9378
      @kingkobe9378 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jaret Campisi so you drive from the shoulders, chest and elbows? Or is it one or two of the three?

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you'll be using all of these muscles as you pump your arms. Just focus on one cue, whichever works best for you. I usually focus on just pumping my arms through my shoulders and keeping them bent at the same degree the whole time.

    No means of disrespect, so sorry if it seems that way cause im always watching your videos but, Michael Johnsons Form wasnt him leaning back.. It appears that way because He has an upright posture and knows that the core and shoulders and upper body play a big role in running..
    His knees werent high because of the upright posture he had.. and taught himself to shorten the strides..
    Michael Johnson probably had the best 400m Form and executed beautifully.. but his form was designed specifically for him, and wouldnt work on shorter distances..

    Hey Jaret! I've found your videos to be an awesome resource for me. I've got a question for running form now. When you keep your foot dorsiflexed, how do you strike the ground with your toes? It seems like you'd heel strike.
    Your videos are awesome man. Thanks for making them. There's so little information out there that's like what you give.

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rumbled thanks man I really appreciate that...I noticed a huge lack of track content out there as well so I'm happy to share all this stuff with you guys. You should be landing on the ball of your foot so as long as your striking the ground underneath your body, you'll be landing on the ball of your foot and not your heel. And even though you're trying to keep your foot flexed it will still drop naturally at the end as it gets closer to the ground so you should naturally land on the ball of your foot.

    What would suggest I do if I always lean back when I get tired?

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Knamzy this is very common...its something you just have to work on during practice and be conscience of during your races when you start to fatigue. A little forward lean is preferable over learning backwards so just try your best to not let it happen.

    I have similar a problem to you. When i do speed work i feel my hips sinking. I know i heel kick to much and that's probably what causes my hips to sink. How do i solve this?

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Malcolm Overbaugh start being conscious of it and try and keep your hips higher as you're running. If you're over striding that could be causing your hips to drop so try and practice during your drills and even as you're running workouts. Its just something you'll need to work on constantly for some time until it starts happening second nature.

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      just don't point your foot and toes down as you run and you'll be fine :)

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you should be landing on the ball of your foot. This is something you just work on during drills but when it comes to running just do what feels natural and it will improve over time.

      If you point your toes its like a braking force, so if you keep your toes dorsiflexed you'll be sprinting your fastest.

      Adan Munoz relax your shoulders before you sprint. Feel that relaxed feeling. Then while your jogging for warmup and when sprinting try and keep your shoulders with that feeling

      +Brendan Jackson Yohan is 5'11 168 lbs...I'm 180 lbs at that same height...Tyson gay is 5'11 165 lbs So yeah I'm a little heavy for track...I competed at 157 lbs.

    • @SuperKamiGuruu
      @SuperKamiGuruu 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I see what you're meaning, but they must have that much body fat b/c they're some freak specimens of physique.
      Especially chambers

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Brendan Jackson yes and for the most part you are correct, sprinters are pretty jacked. But a lot of it is an illusion. As you get lower body fat your muscles are more defined and it actually makes you look bigger than you really are...the point is, for my body, I'm about 20 lbs larger than I would want to be as a competitive sprinter.

    if you notice Andre de grasse
    He slings his arm back only on his right and when he's pulling up he brings it back into 90 degrees
    We witness this in the rio 2016 semi final 200 against bolt last 50 he pulls it in and runs 19.80 and he cruised the last 50.
    I don't beleive he will break any of bolts records but he will become a great
    my prediction is he will run a 9.7 100
    and a 19.4 200

    Alright so the thing about 90 degree arms is bullshit. If u ever ask a sprint coach, as u drive ur arm back, u want to increase the angle of ur elbow and open ur arm slightly, what that is doing is opening up ur stride cos ur legs follow ur arms. If u sprint with closed arms u will be tighter, ur stride length will be shorter and its also increasing the amount of stress on ur knees. Obviously u dont wanna exaggerate the arms but u want to open up, keep it up tho

      when you're sprinting you should be landing on the front half of your foot. That is why the spike plate for sprinter shoes are designed the way they are to help make that easier for you.
