Your first mistake is expecting it to be like Marvel Snap when they specifically said it many times that it will be the simplified version of the main tcg and is geared towards the card collector crowd and the people who don't like the hour long battles in the main tcg. The only thing I dislike atm is it's so difficult to make a working deck as a F2P player because the rewards are so scarce and the rates are abysmall, hopefully once the game fully releases they will give us tons of pulls.
@@cardkeepertoby You should rewatch all the trailers and also check the website for this game because they definitely said it. Both "simplified" and "streamlined" words we're said.
@@cardkeepertoby I mean they aren't wrong when they said that, it definitely isn't connected to the TCG, the card effects and stats on this game are very simplified that any card here won't get you nowhere in the TCG format.
As a mobile game developer, I can tell you there’s a good reason for a soft launch-it’s mainly to test backend systems, catch early bugs, and fix unintended features. That said, I get why you’re frustrated with two things: the rate of non-rare card drops and the absence of ranked mode. But don’t worry, these issues are pretty common during soft launches. In most mobile games, the official launch usually introduces special events to help balance the collections. Plus, as more seasons and booster packs are added, it will naturally spread things out. If you played Marvel Snap at launch, you probably remember how the first month felt like everyone was using the same three decks. It wasn’t until about month three that free-to-play players had enough from events and missions to build truly competitive decks. For Pokémon TCG, the two free packs a day will help casual players build their collections over time. And while ranked mode isn’t here yet, it’s already been announced. They’re likely using this soft launch to make sure the core game works properly before adding ranked, which should roll out before the full launch at the end of next month. A lot of these game modes have probably been in development for months, maybe even years, but there’s always tons of backend work to make sure everything’s ready for the full release. So, while I understand the frustration, it’s still early days. In my opinion, it’s better to wait until about a week after the full launch to really judge the game.
Adding to this, I think they should wait til we're a couple sets in before ranked rolls out. At least one set of additional Pokemon and specifically trainer cards is needed for the depth of strategy to really get this game going.
@@booskidoo9169yea unless I’m playing something water I’m basically running the same trainer package in every deck. I wish they would have made cards like Blaine actually useful like misty
@@booskidoo9169 i disagree, it should be available on global launch. there is already 4-6 top tier decks that can be obtained fully F2P (if you reroll for a decent start at least)
As an experienced card game player, I find this card game one of the most irritating card games I've played. So many times you can tell if you've lost already by turn 2. Draw all your evolves, game over. Against a counter deck, game over. Go first, game over. Shit game.
Sorry that you haven't been enjoying the game. I agree that they should 100% add a ranked mode in the future, but for now I've been having a great time as a f2p. Have collected 339 cards now. (beat all the solo stages, gives a lot of pulls) and have made about 2-3 decks now that are viable online. (Mewtwo EX gardevoir, wigglytuff frossmoth sleep control, and a venasaur ramp deck with lilligant. I'm currently focusing on pikachu pack to try and make a nidoqueen nidoking deck, along with a pikachu EX deck) Its a perfect game where I can login twice a day, open some packs, maybe play a few matches then log off and do something else.
Maybe I need to play more of the solo missions or something but tbh the game doesn’t feel fun enough to warrant me slogging though them all. Glad you’re having an amazing time
@@cardkeepertoby That's fair tbh, the first 2 solo mission tiers are very boring, 3 and 4 at least give some challenge, but the AI still isn't super smart, if you use a Sabrina they will prioritize their highest HP unit, even if you can one shot it with your current mon. My hope is that they diverse the deck builds in future expansions, and that the first one is basic so people can get into it and learn while its fresh. Without being scared away by complex trainer cards and effects. Cause I'm not entirely sure if I would stick around if set 2 is just as simplistic. (although I still love the collection part a lot.) Another thing I noticed is that in the deck creation screen, there are extra slots for cards in the 50% and 25% zoom, I have no idea why they would do this, as they could easily just sort them to make it fill the screen. Maybe the deck will be expanded in the future? or maybe you can run bigger decks if you wish? Just something to think about. But yeah, sorry you didn't get into it, and hopefully they can improve it enough so you can enjoy it.
That joy will run away quickly, I did everything in the game, opened a lot of packs and picked a lot of good cards, now I just wait, wait, wait and wait some more.
Personally, Yugioh Duel Links will always be my primary digital card game. All I need from TCG Pocket is to be a break from Duel Links when that game gets toxic.
Duel Links has been my go to for a solid five or six years now. Its simplified version of full scale fuels are good for me as I’m not the best at deck building. But it’s also pretty fair in the pack opening rates.
Pokemon Pocket TCG is not a MARVEL SNAP like game its a Pokemon version of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links and should be seen as such just with a lot less features for now. The real question is well Nintendo keep the game alive long enough to get closer to Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links in features or will they shut it down in a year or two as they don't have a great track record with mobile games although not as bad as Bandai.
@@lpt118 as a duel link player i see what u r saying but its still very far off being like the pokemom duel links equivalent, id love ot to be close those coz then we would get all the memorable charector to unlock etc like in duel links
i disagree that its like a pokemon version of yu-gi-oh duel links, i used to play the game and pokemon tcg pocket is its very own thing. I personally just think its just a very simplified version of pokemon tcg and is much more fun to me personally.
@@elijahstokes601I think that’s what he meant. Much like how Duel Links is a smaller scale version of traditional Yu-Gi-Oh, this Pokémon game is a smaller scale version of the traditional Pokémon TCG
i do have to agree that pokemon pocket is not fully taking advantage of their digital nature, marvel snap and heartstone got a grip of the market digitally because they dare to do crazy even random stuff that would be just not possible in a physical game. i also feel the weakness system wants to encourage you to have a variety focus deck but it just doesnt pan out that way
I think you guys don't get it, the devs have said it countless of times that Pocket is the simplified version of the irl tcg and is geared towards casual players, expecting it to be fully different from it is your own fault tbh.
So, since Pocket has some tweaks and even original cards (that probably won't be actual cards in the main TCG), I think my main gripe with Pocket already, is that it COULD have been a card game starting from scratch, without using the main TCG as a basis. Like, even 20 years ago, the "colors" of the TCG felt outdated and poorly chosen (why call Electric "Lightning" instead, but at the same time group Rock/Ground with Fighting and have Fighting be the name to (mis)represent Rock and Ground?) This could have left all that old baggage behind and been a fresh more accurate and distinct card game! But nostalgia sells so it is what it is.
The colors are outdated ? Do you know that they kept tweaking them for the last 25 years right ? Originally poison was grass then they changed it to dark beacause dark beacause it made so much more sense. Rock being fighting types IS smart beacause it all about rough phyical damages Insect being with grass make sense toi beacause insectes hide in trees ans bushes in the pokémon universe ICE with water is obvious Ghost and fairy with psychic to make a Magic type make sense toi And overall it makes sense to not have 18 types beacause it would be impossible to make a deck with this much colors Why would you fix something that's not broken ? They do fixed prizes cards système a'd energy system and I think it's already great Can you tell me what would you change if you made it ?
@@Scoitol I know all of this. I'd approach it like this: 1. I would keep a shared energy system, but still keep the actual types. So for example, Water and Ice would use Aqua energy, but the Pokémon themselves would stay what they are and have a more varied range of weaknesses (the TCG already does that to a degree, where Ice types are weak to "Metal" for example, while Water types are weak to Grass or "Lightning" - but this often turns out to be inaccurate to the real weaknesses for dual types etc.) 2. The shared energy types would be UNIQUE (not identical to any type), and they'd cover 2 types each. So for example Fire and Dragon would use Flame Energy, Grass/Fairy = Life Water/Ice = Aqua Electric/Steel = Charge Rock/Ground = Earth Ghost/Dark = Shadow Bug/Poison = Hazard Normal/Fighting = Strength Psychic/Flying = Hover (think it could be tweaked further - and there would be the option of introducing new pairings/energy later)
Before launch, I expressed that I didn’t see TCG Pocket becoming the “next big thing” like what Go was. Now that it’s out (albeit only a soft release), I’m noticing it made a small splash, and not much more. I’m sure it will gain a long-term core group of players, but the wider Pokémon audience probably won’t invest much time into it.
Unfortunate to hear that the *_"temporary move"_* to New Zealand isn't quite going how you intended. It'll be interesting to see what changes and growth they make with the game going forwards.
Wow I'm sorry to hear that. For me, it's even better than I expected. Not perfect, of course, but the foundation it's very solid. We will never have enough packs. We don't want the cards, we just want to keep opening packs. We will keep doing it even with a full collection and having 2 of each. We just like how it makes us feel.
As a non-tcg fan whose only experience is Marvel Snap, I was really excited for Pokemon Pocket as well. I mean who doesnt know Pokemon, and the art and trailer looked amazing. I've been playing a few hours, and I actually appreciated the tutorials. But TBH, its really not as engaging as the current Marvel Snap. Not saying its bad or boring, but the game do get stale fast, especially with a low collection as a F2P. But I do have hope, especially for the global launch events. I think it has a lot of potential as a mobile game, and Im pretty sure it looks and feels a lot better than Marvel Snap when it first launched. BTW, I totally agree with you that they should take advantage of the video game aspect of a digital TCG.
Great video! It definitely feels like the focus is on the collecting and pack opening aspect, more than the game itself. They were exclusively demoing the pack opening at Worlds so makes sense.
It does I just think it’s such a shame. Without a robust gameplay experience to return too idk why I’d be opening the packs. Not even just robust it has to fight for my phone attention over litirally everything else.
Your first major gripe hit so hard in the home for me! That was exactly the problem that killed my enthusiasm for the physical game. My household was not very well off when I was young. Most of my cards came from birthdays and duplicates my brother got. I very much hit the walls of not being able to make a meaningful deck because I needed a Mankey for my Primape or a Spearow of my Fearow (RIP washing machines are super effective against trading cards.😢) I think after the first few sets they finally introduced type themed booster packs where you were guaranteed to get Pokémon of the same type and at least two members of an evolutionary line. Add to that the fact that the TCG never progressed beyond its humble beginnings in any meaningful way (adding more types and abilities) for years, and the whole thing felt very stagnant and basic. I think that was one reason why Yu-Gi-Oh got so popular. You didn't need specific cards (in most scenarios) to do decent damage and get good monsters onto the field. There were fun and snappy Effect cards as well as the Trap and -Magic- Spell cards. There were "types," but they were in the background effected by special cards that usually just granted buffs or disadvantages. Everything was understandable and accessible without much need to study. I totally agree about the animations and abilities. If we got effects and cool interactions like in that animated series they released (Road to the Peak or something) that would draw in a whole new crowd as well as the old. They could even add an option to play in classic format or animated.
I haven't played the game yet (as I don't live in New Zealand 😉) but from what I've seen, one thing I find a bit disappointing is that most cards only have one attack, meaning that there's a lot of empty space on the cards. They could have taken advantage of this by making the artwork bigger, but instead they've kept the same design from the physical TCG. I get that they need to keep the design consistent because some cards do have an Ability or an attack with an additional effect, but it seems the majority of the cards just have all this space that isn't being used.
One thing i strongly agree is about the exchange for basic cards.. its way too expensive.. i need Charmeleon but it cost 70 points.... Thats 14 packs...
They don’t even have card trading yet. The 20 card 2/2 limit is interesting. And with it being digital only there’s a LOT of things they can do that physical can’t do. We just need a few more expansions before the game part of it comes into its own
3 Things: 1. You expected to much and compared to other game like Marvel Snap. 2. Yes and no on F2P friendly since its a gatcha game like and its basically a simulator where same experience as if you where to open packs in real life. 3. IDK if there is online PVP but if there is then the game is going to be P2W real fast
I think a ranked mode would be a step in the right direction. Weekly or bi monthly “get rank 10” to earn a special promo (with pack rewards along the way) would maybe give players a reason to play or test decks
The game would be much better if it didn’t have a gameplay loop that lasts only five or ten minutes, then makes you wait 12 to 24 hours to have anything to do again.
Thanks for sharing, this is good info! I'm personally still excited for it, mostly for the casual collecting experience, but I also hope we eventually see some of these potential improvements you're suggesting.
The biggest problem this game has is that it needs new boosters and fast. The meta feels rather stale right now considering I seem to come across the same 3-4 decks all the time. Can't even have fun with creative decks without getting stomped using the same 3-4 tactics.
never played pokemon but come from playing magic and marvel snap. things i dont like right from the get go is the ui. it feels super plane. opening packs feels dragged out. you have to click 3 or 4 times then you go through a couple more clicks collecting them. to me it feels like a alpha or thrown together real fast just because they seen another game do really well. prolly marvel snap. and i know there different but i think snap is already so well established and ahead of the game with starting to add new game modes and effects. i really feel like snap has improved alot lately and has only been getting better and better
Comparing it to Marvel Snap might not be the best approach imo - Snap is a different type of game, and even that evolved over time-features like PvP weren’t added at launch. Some of the previews gave the impression this would be a more casual entry into the Pokémon TCG, and I think that’s fine. If it brings more players into the mainline TCG, that’s a win surely? Also like how I enjoy Pokémon GO while some friends dont play as much-games cater to different audiences / play levels and that’s fine - I think I’d be more critical if this was half a year into launch without sign of evolution I also feel the game’s pace (with packs being spread out unless you’re spending money) doesn’t seem designed to be something you grind, especially in its current launch form - I’m actually excited to see how it evolves (and that’s the beauty of a mobile app - they can evolve easier.. GO was a shell of what it is now at launch, and even Unite is launching new play styles) It doesn’t, and shouldn’t, feel like a race. I don’t think it’s aiming to turn players into content machines or ‘pocket creators’ overnight, which is a good thing.
I get and hear all of the but also it is in direct competition with Snap for my personal mobile app game time. Knowing what the game is and was (even in the limited from and launch) and seeing this this a dramatic night and day situation. The game will do well, it’ll serve a function to bring people into the TCG and that’s good. and it’s fine but I just can’t myself choosing it over either snap or the regular TCG in its current form. A lot (even foundational things would need to change)
I've been playing the game for nearly a week now and i agree with all of your critiques. It feels like this exciting little blip that was fun for a day or two, but very quickly became tedious. The moment it slowed down to just being a two pack a day simulator, it stopped being fun. I agree with your main argument - what is the point? I'm happy for people who have spent money and will get long term enjoyment from what is effectively a shell of a game, but i expect the F2P playerbase will have dropped significantly by the 1 month mark. My main issue with the gatcha mechanic is that is just feels predatory, especially to kids, who make up a huge proportion of pokemon's core demographic.
I agree with the tutorial being way too long and slow. I watched TH-cam videos while I occasionally clicked through the tutorial that was going on on my phone on the side
I have pulled all 3 rarities of mewtwo in one pack. Crown rare, full art, and the fully animated thingy. Cannot play them. Why? I dont have enough pack points for a freaking Kirlia and Gardevoir.
I got two Charizard one gold and ex two Blastoise one venasuar mewtwo ex aracaine ex zapdos ex articuno regular one gengar ex and been three days since playing I just need two moltress ex to combo my Charizard deck need two misty support stamie ex and Greninja ex an and articuno ex and gardvoir to support mewtwo got two ralts and two kirlia hopefully i get it before the game release in global to do verses match and pvp and trade
yugioh duel links feels like a better way of implementing this formula. Slightly simplified version of the tcg for the sake of quicker games. And relatively generous with packs
I just hope this is compatible with my Android phone because when this was first revealed I was really excited for it Edit: I just checked and no, it's not compatible with my phone and that makes me sad :(
Some people seem to think that every Android app is compatible with every Android device unless it's really old. I went to the Play Store listing for Pokemon Pocket and only 1 of my 3 Android phones are compatible. Each of them were manufactured in the past 4 years. I bought a new Samsung phone 6 months ago and it's not compatible! I have a lot of Android devices and app compatibility is complicated. Pokemon Pocket is not unique to this problem.
This game is far too pay to win. All of the good is out done by that and really shows that the free to play was not thought out very well. I love pokemon and this game is really simple... but in some ways too simple. Which I think hurts it in the long run. :(
it took me 2-3 days... got a lightning deck (pikachu ex and magneton), fire deck (moltres, rapidash and arcanine), water deck (blastoise) But yeah, for advanced buiilding options, it'll be tough. ;x
Yeah its focused on collecting first, battling second. Hence the crszy full art animations, binders, gameplay super simple, etc. This aint hearthstone or magic, where they focus more on battling. It is what it is.
From what I’ve seen in its current state ( which is most likely for feedback) I don’t see it being very successful. No where near Pokemon go status. Currently it seems only F2P players who don’t want to drop $$$ are happy with it.
I checked the comments before commenting and wow, y'all really think this game will be as popular as pokemon go or even surpass it? Did you guys seriously forgot how massive pokemon go was when it released? It was a sensational app that even grandma's tried the game. If the TCG itself isn't as popular as Go, did you really think this app has any chance? Of course it won't be as popular as Go, I'd say it's definitely gonna be more popular compare to Pokemon TCG Live, Pokemon Masters EX and their other mobile games at least.
About the gameplay complaints, I understand you we're expecting a completely different game that utilises the digital format like Snap does but nowhere did the devs said that it will be one so it's on you for getting disappointed on something they never promised. Like they mentioned quite a lot on the trailers that Pocket is supposed to be the simplified version of the irl tcg and that's what we exactly got. Don't forget it's just soft launch atm so the game contents is very barebones, I'm sure once it fully releases we'll get constant updates and events to spice up the game and it's meta.
They also mentioned how it was not like the TCG and was its own game. I truely think had it leant into snap like qualities it truely could have been that big for surpassing snap. Totally in my for getting my hopes up tbh.
Illegal gambling sounds worse than legal gambling they should just legalise it before people get scamed by something that holds no ground to take legal action against
How about videos about other TCG's ? After all is Card Keeper Toby not exclusively Pokémon. I know you collect Yu-Gi-Oh, is there any another TCG you have collected/played?
"Focus on 151" "nostalgic artwork" I am at a point where these things just make me wish TPC ever gave more than a fraction of the spotlight to Gen5 and the like. I lived through Pokémania and feel nothing for Gen1 and the old TCG sets, they just feel like tools of marketing today 😅
A fraction ? They litterally are doing it lmao on thé Real tcg next year WE are getting sets about Reshiram and Zekrom. 3 years ago WE got a set with mostly 4th gen pokémon. It's not that it's only 1st gen. People just don't Care when it's not and don't talk about it sadly. But honestly it makes sense for the first set to be about first gen
@@Scoitol of course there are sets themed around whatever games are released, and sets that get around to featuring every major legendary at some point etc. What I mean with spotlight are these moments where something about the franchise is front and center.. like a new game, new app, new show, a new category of merch etc.
The most upsetting thing for me was finding out there was no ranked system :( Like I really wanted to get into the competitive scene early on but like, it sucks that there's no way to really see if I'm improving.
@@cardkeepertoby Bro fr,, that would be so amazing. Like I was just as hyped about Pocket as you were and seeing the art has only made more hyped but the "ranking" system literally just being you getting Player EXP upon winning and none upon losing is just like the worst way to go about it.
@@JadeJonny The game is geared towards casual players and that's why there's no ranked mode but the devs did said if enough people begged for it, they might consider adding ranked mode in the future.
My biggest dissapointment with Pocket TCG is there's barely anything to do unless you spend real life money. Battling is fun.. but not as fun when you don't have enough cards to make different kind of decks.
So now I have not seen the entire video of yours, more like 8 and a half minute...But I just wonder that me that aren't interested in playing with the card but only with the collecting cards and make my collections bigger...There isn't any issue there? Like the cards is looking amazing and I just like to collect alot. Never really felt like I wanted to play theTCG anyway.
i think u had the wrong idea i think this game is great its just i think tcg as a whole is hard to get into especially the battles i think this game is for ppl who want to get into tcgs but dont wanna go through the whole process of it call me lazy but even if u didnt like tcgs i got my friend to play it and he has like no tcg cards and he loves it and having a ranked mode at soft launch would suck? so like i think ur just ovehyping the game in my opinion it did everything right though.
Pokemon TCG Pocket is more closer to Yugioh Duel Links than Marvel Snap is, both of them are the simplified version of their irl tcg counterparts, expecting it to be like Marvel Snap is definitely your fault. They've said plenty times on the trailers that's it's a simplified version of the irl tcg, and it's also more focused on the collecting side than battling and that is why theres no ranked mode atm. For me the game is fun, it's just the rewards suck so much, they definitely need to add more like add weekly and monthly missions to give more rewards, add ranked mode with decent rewards, and hopefully the future event rewards will be good too. It's just soft launch atm so the game can still improve, hopefully DeNA will listen to player feedbacks because the game has tons of potential.
While it’s my fault for getting my hopes up they’ve been pretty clear that this is “not the Pokemon TCG” which led me to believe they were really trying for something different here.
@@cardkeepertobythey've said that because the rules are not the same as the irl tcg, they've said it's the simplified version and the battles will be leaning to the casual side. When I heard those words, I already knew it will be similar to Duel Links and that's what we got. Honestly, the game is pretty solid but it is indeed barebones, it make sense since it's just soft launch and also just came out, it will be interesting to see what updates the game will get in the future besides the trading mechanic. It might get as complicated as it's tcg counterpart in the near future just like how Duel Links is pretty complicated now too when it started really simple in the beginning. I'd say, just wait for the official launch or wait for a couple of months then check back if the game improved to your liking.
You are crazy for thinking this game was going to recolutionaize the digital card game genre man. Its freaking Pokémon. If it's not broken, (which it was a bit) then dont fix it. It is a better approach to the card game objectively.
Tbh u have only been playing it for a few days so of course u won't have most of the cards u want, this is the kind of review that should be done after a week of playing Also it is free and opening packs will take less than 10mins a day
Sure and maybe my mind will change after 10 days but tbh I feel like aside form the opening packs there is nothing fun for me to do in the game. The gameplay word thin really fast for me
@@cardkeepertoby well lets just hope they do listen people and fix even some of the things people like u thing need fixing, they so still have a month to make any changes so fingers crossed I appreciate the honesty as i can tell u want the game to be good but its not quite there yet but like i said they have a month to hopefully make some changes to improve it, but im still excited to try this game out
I think your being abit salty, slower progress and not being able to buy packs outright and players are based on playing for the long term is not a bad thing could there be more yes. The type thing, only feels that way because of deck size limit. It's not marvel snap, and was clearly not ment to be it's a simple version if the tcg which is perfect. They wanted the feeling for pack and getting the lucky cards and they achieved that. It's still early they will prob do alot more for this game.
i was following until you started rambling on how this game is not another game. they won't change the whole tcg because it is in a phone now, that's r-worded. if the 2 packs per day don't require any work to receive, that makes this game cheaper than even master duel. and leagues ahead of what mtg arena does idk, i will try it out and see for myself. my only "complain" or unfulfilled wish rather, is that as someone who missed most of the tcg i would have liked that they started all over again, like when duel links released. but it's fine, they have to sell the shiny ex evs whatever and who cares
So should I never want the games I’m excited for to take and adapt on elements from other successful games they’re in direct competition with? Also I’m confused they have started over just like master duel?
@@cardkeepertoby master duel is a year behind the card game, duel links started from the very early sets with sprinkle new stuff to mix it up a little bit I would understand the game mechanics criticisms if this was a brand new game, but it is the adaptation of a 20 year old card game that they want to keep selling packs of. It would be incredible weird if the teaching tool was wildly different than paper
Ive opened atleast 50 packs tryna chase the pickachu ex. Not only did i not pull a single copy. Put of 50 fucking packs i only pulled 1 Ex (zapdos). That is straight up unexceptable. Ive pulled more alt arts (4or5) than exs.
It's too simple. Basically a toddler version of hearthstone. The fact we can have only 1 energy per turn is a let down. At least with the tcg, we can search and draw and use effects to attach multiple energy for combos
they changed the rules to make them hard once per turn or they didn't implemented the cards that allow cheat out energy?, i don't mind if the game starts slower before the power creeps in.
@Badbufon I guess. I'm sure in a couple seasons they will creep in more search. It's a nice fresh of air too. Tbh the power creep and meta are getting annoying. People do like 8-10 moves and deck search before you go.
There are cards like Misty, Brock, Moltres and Gardevior that accelerate energy. Its just the very beginning, and I think they have to be careful with only 20 card decks with how much players are drawing and stuff. I think they will slowly start to add some more abilities, but its only intended to be a simple version of Pokemon. Theres already PTCGL for a more authentic, competitive Pokemon tcg experience.
The only thing I heard from this lame review about an IP is that you don’t care either way. You don’t play Marvel snap (another) and you’re not going to play PTCGP in the long term. Great cool, move on. Your point about this game not being F2P friendly is wrong. There are multiple ways to get free cards and the exact card you’re missing from a deck or set. I guess you missed that feature that’s currently in the game right now. Pokemon is one of the largest IP to date and it seems like they care about their nostalgic community. PTCGP is a community based game and not this deep rooted cash grab you allude too. It’s wild and disappointing to see whack people sit on the internet to complain about a game that hasn’t revealed its full potential to its player base yet. But yet again more CLICKBAIT centered around a false narrative towards this game.
I watched all of the trailers like a hawk and did breakdowns. They never said the words “simplified version of the TCG” and there were hints like the card Pokeball that they were really going to aim to utilise the fact it’s a digital TCG
@@cardkeepertobyI beg to differ with this video: th-cam.com/video/16duP6ga_Q8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Pj278Gw6XszR-69c, there's also the one from 7 months ago with them saying the rules are "streamlined" for quick battles. You clearly didn't watch any trailers.
Okay I’ll eat my words clearly I’m wrong I did miss this trailer where they drop that one 2 secound line at the end, 100% clearly I’m wrong. And yes you got me mask off, the truth revealed therefore I clearly didn’t watch any of the trailers including the ones I reference, react too and show footage of in all of my videos this month. How did you know 🙄
@@cardkeepertobywell sorry if I sounded aggressive but the previous trailers mentioned it already that's why I thought you didn't watched them, even the very first trailer mentioned the game rules will be streamlined for players who never played the TCG before. If you really want a competitive pokemon tcg game then Pokemon TCG Live exists.
It’s all good sorry I’m being passive aggressive that’s just rude of me my bad. Hoenslty they were also pushing that this was not the Pokemon TCG and a different game so it’s definitely caught me by surprise
Pushing your tutorial problem on the world lol is mind blowing 😂how are new players that dont know pokemon gonna try this game without the tutorial. Your just talking because you can talk cause wow.
I’ve played many games that teach you the ropes without a 20 min tutorial. Given how intuitive the gameplay is it’s pretty unessacary. And tbh all I’m advocating for is a skip button for those who don’t want to sit though that, they can keep it for new players if they really want. That shouldn’t be a controversial point at all
Your first mistake is expecting it to be like Marvel Snap when they specifically said it many times that it will be the simplified version of the main tcg and is geared towards the card collector crowd and the people who don't like the hour long battles in the main tcg. I agree that’s my mistake for expecting that. But actually no where did they say it’s going to be a simplified version of the main TCG.
Actually they were expressly pushing how this wasn’t connected to the main TCG and is its own thing
@@cardkeepertoby They did say in the trailer it would be a simplified version
Shit game.
Mooood
Gotta agree. Whoever gets their EX online first wins.
The Mewtwo ex is also just completely unbalanced if you have at least one gardevoir. Completely ruins any competitive fun
Nothing but RNG. Just as fun as rolling dice and keeping count.
I hate marvel snap so making it just the pokemon TCG but simpler like yugioh duel links did makes me happy
(although I still love the collection part a lot.)
Another thing I noticed is that in the deck creation screen, there are extra slots for cards in the 50% and 25% zoom, I have no idea why they would do this, as they could easily just sort them to make it fill the screen.
I feel Pokemon TCG Pocket is more going after the Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links crowd than Marvel Snap crowd.
Agreed. I came over from duel links
Personally, Yugioh Duel Links will always be my primary digital card game. All I need from TCG Pocket is to be a break from Duel Links when that game gets toxic.
😂😂😂 like minded individual spotted
If it involves FOMO whereby packs rotate out and don't come back, I don't think I'm interested
i do have to agree that pokemon pocket is not fully taking advantage of their digital nature, marvel snap and heartstone got a grip of the market digitally because they dare to do crazy even random stuff that would be just not possible in a physical game.
i also feel the weakness system wants to encourage you to have a variety focus deck but it just doesnt pan out that way
I think you guys don't get it, the devs have said it countless of times that Pocket is the simplified version of the irl tcg and is geared towards casual players, expecting it to be fully different from it is your own fault tbh.
Ironically pocket TCG made me try out Snap and I'm addicted. Snap is just so dynamic and fun.
So, since Pocket has some tweaks and even original cards (that probably won't be actual cards in the main TCG),
I think my main gripe with Pocket already, is that it COULD have been a card game starting from scratch, without using the main TCG as a basis.
Like, even 20 years ago, the "colors" of the TCG felt outdated and poorly chosen (why call Electric "Lightning" instead, but at the same time group Rock/Ground with Fighting and have Fighting be the name to (mis)represent Rock and Ground?)
This could have left all that old baggage behind and been a fresh more accurate and distinct card game!
But nostalgia sells so it is what it is.
The colors are outdated ? Do you know that they kept tweaking them for the last 25 years right ?
Originally poison was grass then they changed it to dark beacause dark beacause it made so much more sense.
Rock being fighting types IS smart beacause it all about rough phyical damages
Insect being with grass make sense toi beacause insectes hide in trees ans bushes in the pokémon universe
ICE with water is obvious
Ghost and fairy with psychic to make a Magic type make sense toi
And overall it makes sense to not have 18 types beacause it would be impossible to make a deck with this much colors
Why would you fix something that's not broken ?
They do fixed prizes cards système a'd energy system and I think it's already great
Can you tell me what would you change if you made it ?
@@Scoitol I know all of this.
I'd approach it like this:
1. I would keep a shared energy system, but still keep the actual types.
So for example, Water and Ice would use Aqua energy, but the Pokémon themselves would stay what they are and have a more varied range of weaknesses (the TCG already does that to a degree, where Ice types are weak to "Metal" for example, while Water types are weak to Grass or "Lightning" - but this often turns out to be inaccurate to the real weaknesses for dual types etc.)
2. The shared energy types would be UNIQUE (not identical to any type), and they'd cover 2 types each.
So for example
Fire and Dragon would use Flame Energy,
Grass/Fairy = Life
Water/Ice = Aqua
Electric/Steel = Charge
Rock/Ground = Earth
Ghost/Dark = Shadow
Bug/Poison = Hazard
Normal/Fighting = Strength
Psychic/Flying = Hover
(think it could be tweaked further - and there would be the option of introducing new pairings/energy later)
It still has its official launch coming up we’ll see what happens but yeah I can’t see it being as big as go snymore
@@cardkeepertoby Very true. Maybe they’ll iron out some of the issues before then, and it might have a bigger impact than what we’re currently seeing.
Unfortunate to hear that the *_"temporary move"_* to New Zealand isn't quite going how you intended.
It'll be interesting to see what changes and growth they make with the game going forwards.
Yeah maybe it’ll develop into something much cooler just sadly rn I personally feel quite underwhelmed
Pokémon has disappointed and not evolved (pun unintended) for 10+ years. I didn’t expect any different with this.
I very much hit the walls of not being able to make a meaningful deck because I needed a Mankey for my Primape or a Spearow of my Fearow (RIP washing machines are super effective against trading cards.😢)
I think after the first few sets they finally introduced type themed booster packs where you were guaranteed to get Pokémon of the same type and at least two members of an evolutionary line.
Yeah this is true. It’s confined to the limits of the physical game rn. I hope they change that
One thing i strongly agree is about the exchange for basic cards.. its way too expensive.. i need Charmeleon but it cost 70 points.... Thats 14 packs...
Or a week of play
They don’t even have card trading yet. The 20 card 2/2 limit is interesting. And with it being digital only there’s a LOT of things they can do that physical can’t do. We just need a few more expansions before the game part of it comes into its own
3 Things:
1. You expected to much and compared to other game like Marvel Snap.
2. Yes and no on F2P friendly since its a gatcha game like and its basically a simulator where same experience as if you where to open packs in real life.
3. IDK if there is online PVP but if there is then the game is going to be P2W real fast
every single card game with a rarity system is pay to win, that's inherently the point of the TCG model...
I think a ranked mode would be a step in the right direction. Weekly or bi monthly “get rank 10” to earn a special promo (with pack rewards along the way) would maybe give players a reason to play or test decks
How are people feeling a month later? I tried it and it's very ..sanitized. I hope there's a dark mode because these menus are bright lmao
I cleared most of the missions (ie not able to collect all the cards yet) but now its just waiting for being able to open packs....
This is my feeling
True, but I'll not reset my account, I saw some people doing that, to me it's dumb.
Yeah I’m just opening my 2 packs a day only lol! Hopefully when it comes out opening day? There will be more types of reward missions
The game would be much better if it didn’t have a gameplay loop that lasts only five or ten minutes, then makes you wait 12 to 24 hours to have anything to do again.
What are the useless brown boxes from the daily rewards for does anyone knows ?
Pokemon Company: Give us your money while you play with your limited pool of cards players.
Thanks for sharing, this is good info! I'm personally still excited for it, mostly for the casual collecting experience, but I also hope we eventually see some of these potential improvements you're suggesting.
Great yeah have na amazing time ^_^
The biggest problem this game has is that it needs new boosters and fast.
As a competitive tcg player not enough depth or complexity but I do enjoy the art... definitely not for me but I am happy for those who enjoy it.
Also like how I enjoy Pokémon GO while some friends dont play as much-games cater to different audiences /
play levels and that’s fine - I think I’d be more critical if this was half a year into launch without sign of evolution
I also feel the game’s pace (with packs being spread out unless you’re spending money) doesn’t seem designed to be something you grind, especially in its current launch form - I’m actually excited to see how it evolves (and that’s the beauty of a mobile app - they can evolve easier.. GO was a shell of what it is now at launch, and even Unite is launching new play styles)
It doesn’t, and shouldn’t, feel like a race.
Yeah super dissapointing. Feels like a cash grab with no real value
The only cards you need in the game is 1 snorlax, 2 mewtwo ex, and 2 gardevoirs. Literally impossible to win against.
I agree with the tutorial being way too long and slow.
I watched TH-cam videos while I occasionally clicked through the tutorial that was going on on my phone on the side
What I don't like is the wonderpick system that need another hourglass, it should be free man
Wtf ? You mean getting Infinite cards lmao ?
@@Scoitol No it still guessing card and has gacha mechanic. You don't always get card you wanted should not locked with item and cooldown
@@duelieur9692 but if it was not locked you would just be able to Wonder pick again indefitely 😭
They should have made it like Pokemon stadium
I just hope this is compatible with my Android phone because when this was first revealed I was really excited for it
Edit: I just checked and no, it's not compatible with my phone and that makes me sad :(
I'm sure it will be :D
@@cardkeepertoby it's not :'( maybe it would be compatible if I had a tablet or something? Idk...
I have a horrible 5 year old phone and it works.... Time to get a new phone?
Bro it's not that big of a game like open world game😂how can your phone not compatible lol
I played it all the things are cool but the battling is confusing for new players of pokemon tcg like why cant i put non basic first
it took me 2-3 days... got a lightning deck (pikachu ex and magneton), fire deck (moltres, rapidash and arcanine), water deck (blastoise)
But yeah, for advanced buiilding options, it'll be tough. ;x
Cracking a few packs is the main function of this app

I think the game has potential and this soft launch is for that to ask for feedback for October 31
Fingers crossed
I didn’t have to move areas tbh I got mine thru apk n vpn ing to get it before the 30th
Yeah its focused on collecting first, battling second. Hence the crszy full art animations, binders, gameplay super simple, etc. This aint hearthstone or magic, where they focus more on battling. It is what it is.
Also the UI is out-of-the-box dull and boring. Round butttons. There is no proper “look and feel”
From what I’ve seen in its current state ( which is most likely for feedback) I don’t see it being very successful. No where near Pokemon go status.
Currently it seems only F2P players who don’t want to drop $$$ are happy with it.
nah it sucks for f2p. after 2 days theres nothing to do and you can’t get any rewards at all its so bad.
Sadly i wont get to play due to it being banned here. Becuz it has gambling, so my country bans it. Same with masters ex. I can play
Aw sorry to hear thst
Kinda suck when a country does that honestly. If they want to avoid gamblig this much can't they just Lock micro transactions ?
Illegal gambling sounds worse than legal gambling they should just legalise it before people get scamed by something that holds no ground to take legal action against
How about videos about other TCG's ? After all is Card Keeper Toby not exclusively Pokémon. I know you collect Yu-Gi-Oh, is there any another TCG you have collected/played?
"Focus on 151" "nostalgic artwork"
I am at a point where these things just make me wish TPC ever gave more than a fraction of the spotlight to Gen5 and the like.

Surprisingly cold rn
The battle in pocket is a brain dead s*** show
does it connect with TCG Live?

No it has no connection to live.
I'm not a comic book guy, but I play Snap daily. Pocket's gameplay is incredibly dated.

Did I? ……I mean of course I did
The most upsetting thing for me was finding out there was no ranked system :( Like I really wanted to get into the competitive scene early on but like, it sucks that there's no way to really see if I'm improving.
Maybe they’ll bring one in on official launch or down the line

Damn, I kinda want to play marvel snap again 😢
I'm gonna play it just for the sake of collecting cards.
duel link is a much better example than marvel snap😅
Just put anime characters in it and add character skills

Some good points tbh👍😎
I'd say, just wait for the official launch or wait for a couple of months then check back if the game improved to your liking.
i dunno why they didnt create a phone version of the tcg game already on PC
It’s a cash grab!
You are crazy for thinking this game was going to recolutionaize the digital card game genre man. Its freaking Pokémon. If it's not broken, (which it was a bit) then dont fix it. It is a better approach to the card game objectively.
In my opinion is a great game. I have a lot of fun with it
Great ^_^
Tbh u have only been playing it for a few days so of course u won't have most of the cards u want, this is the kind of review that should be done after a week of playing
Also it is free and opening packs will take less than 10mins a day
Sure and maybe my mind will change after 10 days but tbh I feel like aside form the opening packs there is nothing fun for me to do in the game. The gameplay word thin really fast for me
@@cardkeepertoby well lets just hope they do listen people and fix even some of the things people like u thing need fixing, they so still have a month to make any changes so fingers crossed
I appreciate the honesty as i can tell u want the game to be good but its not quite there yet but like i said they have a month to hopefully make some changes to improve it, but im still excited to try this game out
I fell asleep trying out marvel snap so im glad its an unpolished duel links
You have no clue what youre talking about. Womp womp.
it's great
I think your being abit salty, slower progress and not being able to buy packs outright and players are based on playing for the long term is not a bad thing could there be more yes. The type thing, only feels that way because of deck size limit. It's not marvel snap, and was clearly not ment to be it's a simple version if the tcg which is perfect. They wanted the feeling for pack and getting the lucky cards and they achieved that. It's still early they will prob do alot more for this game.
i was following until you started rambling on how this game is not another game. they won't change the whole tcg because it is in a phone now, that's r-worded.
if the 2 packs per day don't require any work to receive, that makes this game cheaper than even master duel. and leagues ahead of what mtg arena does
idk, i will try it out and see for myself.
my only "complain" or unfulfilled wish rather, is that as someone who missed most of the tcg i would have liked that they started all over again, like when duel links released. but it's fine, they have to sell the shiny ex evs whatever and who cares
So should I never want the games I’m excited for to take and adapt on elements from other successful games they’re in direct competition with?
Also I’m confused they have started over just like master duel?
@@cardkeepertoby master duel is a year behind the card game, duel links started from the very early sets with sprinkle new stuff to mix it up a little bit
I would understand the game mechanics criticisms if this was a brand new game, but it is the adaptation of a 20 year old card game that they want to keep selling packs of.
That’s wild you’d think there would be bad luck protection in the game too. Lots of card games have that
It's too simple.
I'm guessing you never watched any trailers for this game if you expected more than a "simplified version of the irl tcg" game.
That shouldn’t be a controversial point at all
Dude is complaining about collecting Pokemon...in a Pokemon game.
You are bot going to succeed making content with this poor bait.
Litirally didn’t complain about the collecting at all. I praised that. :’)
dont say as a Pokemon fan though, your problems are specifically as a Content Creator
