I keep coming back to this. It is just such a f***ing masterpiece!! Everything about this video- the music the effects, the lyrics and that spectacular puppet master choreography when Majora comes on. It gives me chills!! I this is one of the greatest pieces of art I've ever seen and can only imagine what it would be like live on stage.
Katie Lewis No matter how you look at it, this is creepy. If you think about it, this perfectly personifies demonic possession and oppression. In the Bible Jesus said that “when an unclean spirit is gone out of a man, it walks through dry places seeking rest. Finding none the demon returns to its hosts with other spirits more wicked than itself and they enter in. The last state of the man is worse than the first.” We should be careful with what we pay attention to and what we allow to influence us. In one way or another we are just as naïve as skull kid: “Be sober, be vigilant because your advisory the Devil walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
@@insignis5830 I know it's been a while, but the opera has been confirmed to start around the dawn of first day. So actually, Majora is referring to the Moon with "Let's play catch."
Wow, it's been a while since a listened this for the first time. A lot of things has changed, but this project is still fucking awesome. The part where she possess Skull Kid still sends shivers down my spine. Very well executed by the dancer/singer.
If you were trying to capturer the more demonic side of Majora herself and her terrifying power over skull kid...YOU NAILED IT right on its head!! fantastic job!! Im sad I hadn't found you guys sooner! :)
I like the dynamic/characterization here that ggives m the impression of like, Majora like an abusive mother getting skull kid into doing dirty work (play my games) and terrorizing him (you're it) and then the "you should play with your friends often" part manipulating/guilting him, having complete control over his mind it's horrifying and i love it
That's pretty good; the distorted special effects really help the mood. I just saw "The Magic Flute" this spring, and I can't help but think this draws a little from the Queen of the Night's aria. Good idea.
Watched this delightfully eerie clip dozens of times over the past months. It (and the original game) are a big inspiration for a story I'm writing. Seriously, great job to everyone involved! I'm in love with this. ^_^
"You've met with a terrible fate...Haven't you....?" When the kid became the puppet. I fucking lost it. I had chills all over. I can't even begin to explain how unnerved I was. X-x;
I like the lyrics. To me, the lyrics seem as if Majora is saying "You are a toy to me; you are under my power and there's nothing you can do about it ."
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. Seriously. This is genius. Everything you've shown has blown my mind. I hope this becomes a legit production, I would pay all I've got to see this!
Also, I just have to say that the big thing I appreciate about this project (coming into it fashionably late) is how you give a spotlight to some of the more obscure/underused tracks. I don't know why I didn't recognize Majora's Incarnation at first but now that I hear it, I just love it even more.
I love this piece! I was listening to it in art class once, and my headphones weren't plugged all the way in, so everyone in the class could hear Majora cackling maniacally...good times.
So sweet and so delicate.. But so dangerous.. tickles down your spine and then tears you apart. Remarkable vocalization in this, my goodness. Exactly how I would have portrayed Majora.
Oh. My. God. That was BRILLIANT work. I can't say enough how beautiful and frightening this is all a the same time. It really helps put into perspective how Skull Kid felt, in a unique way that can only be told through the stage. Wow, you all are amazing. Hype!
Majora's mask was my second video game ever, i was pretty young in that time. My parent read adventure game for children and give it to us. This game really , i think i can say, traumatised me and my younger brother. We use to make nightmare of Majora on a daily basis and yet we could'nt stop playing it, like a unhealthy addiction. The feel of an imminent threat, the apocalyptic essence of this game, the color, the music, the countdown, the despair in every character face. After this game, no other video game felt the same. Vilain alway felt lame bordeline laughable, the plot tastless, the universe dry and the character empty. This feeling of immenent danger was never reach by any other game. Me and my brother happen to also been fan of opera, so when i saw the work of M.Bulteau, many years ago, i ran down the stair and tell my brother and we binge watch the whole thing. However, when we finish watched Majora's Aria, we both look at the screen silent and with the jaw dropped. Then my brother looked at me smiling and say: i think it's time, we need to go back on termina. So we sat the whole night and played this master piece one more time. We finished it in the following month and this time was even more darker because we could read the text has english is not ours mother tongue. So on this very long and usless monologue and i just wanted to say: you were able to recreate it. All of the above. You are an absolute genius. The dark essence, this void of despair in the marjora's mask title. This omnicient feel of terror and danger. An righteous heros in a hopeless adventure. You perfectly recreate it and for that me and my brother are in your debt.
Funny story: I started writing a Majora's Mask musical, and then I found this. Good luck with your opera, friend! I'll be following it! Edit: The song that is similar to this in my show is going to be called Darkest of Hearts, discussing the negativity in Skullkid's heart. I'm also writing Majora so it can be portrayed by either a high tenor or low alto, so that'll be interesting in the penultimate song in my show...
This is both terrifying and beautiful and I love it! Probably my favorite of the demos aside from Deku Palace, with Clock Town choir being a close third! :) Can I say that Allegra has an absolutely haunting singing voice? Her voice combined with Ines's movements as Majora and Skull Kid really up the creepy factor when it comes to Majora, which is perfect seeing as she's probably one of the creepiest Zelda villains. :) This whole project absolutely rocks, and it's in my top 3 favorite Majora-related fan thing along with the Terrible Fate short film and Theopany's music (which was used in the short). :)
O_O I... have no words for just how gob-smackingly terrifying that was. So many chills ran down my spine, it felt like someone was pouring ice down my back. The music, the visuals, the singing, it was so unnerving. And I loved every single goddamn second I watched it.
You've should of added at the end of this scene, a part when she points at skull kid and laughing with a evil posed laugh, as the mask is sticking into his flesh, and how he is trying to get it off, then he screams, and you hear a little of Majora, and Skull kid screaming at the end. That would have been just.. steak sauce.
That reminds me of the short Terrible Fate that had that at the end, both Skull Kid and Majora' screaming when the mask takes Skull Kid over. While that would have been epically creepy to add, if I recall correctly from the Q&A for this song Majora's Aria takes place after Skull Kid has been taken over by Majora, and she's just a voice in Skull Kid's head at this point.
That was very disturbing. And I loved it! I didn't know that was possible, but your work is making my feelings towards this classic (which I played as a child) grow even more. Thanks ;)
Its like is this what is going on in skull kids head? Also if this is how Majora controls him no wonder he couldn't either take the mask off or stop her.

Okay, and I thought Majora was fucked up before this... Jeez, Mr. Bulteau, you really know how to mess with people's heads! I was originally expecting something very quiet and sinister in nature, but I love the frantic, distorted, twisted nature of this demo even more. I enjoy the way Majora is "puppeteering" the Skull Kid near the end. It had my heart racing, and Majora's laughter just scared the shit out of me. Awesome job!
Love the idea of you making Majora a female. Awsome twist. Loved this when I was in early high school. I'm obsessed with this game. This was really done well. Thanks!
Hmm! Very nice representation of the effect that Majora would have over Skull Kid, I suppose that means the Skull Kid himself won't be speaking at all and in essence may have taken the original role you prescribed for Link as a dancer. In any case that is some amazing talent you have amassed there, it is incredible to think the same gal (guy? Sort of difficult to tell...) is playing both Majora and Skull Kid, great work all around! I really liked the "Let's Play catch!" as a symbol for bringing down the Moon (at least I assumed that was what "I'll throw the ball!" meant. I could be completely wrong. But wow. ***** Heh, thanks for the clarification. I wasn't 100% sure because I'm not too familiar with Portuguese names (at least I believe M. Bulteau is based in Portugal? Indeed, I had momentarily forgotten your first name was Miguel. I had thought that Bulteau sounded French, but with such a lack of exposure to such names I couldn't quite say for certain.
(*shudders*) Wow, watching this at night is seriously chilling, even with a light on I felt this urge to look over my shoulder through the entire last two minutes. I love it, though, it really captures the insanity that is Majora. :)

I think out of all of this, my favorite moments are when Majora uses Skull Kid as a puppet. It kind of gives an idea as to why he moved almost unnaturally while under control of the mask.
It's frightening how my whole body wants to run away, shivering the whole time... but my brain want's to see the beautiful play. Amazingly acted out since this scene is offscreen in the game. There we only get to know what happened, but we don't see it.

Looking at the description, I see that Skull Kid and Majora are both performed by the same person in the video. Honestly seeing Majora as sharing a form with Skull Kid in some way makes it more interesting.
skull kid becoming a puppet of the mask was just amazingly done here, working with nothing but silhouettes to convey this, with the creepy 'playful' song and style that Majora's Mask is known for. this is quite the genius theatrical effects
I like it, really love the end with the puppet twitching thing.. but the general movements of the imp probably could've been done a bit better. Felt almost like he was just moving for the sake of taking up the screen.
The woman singing as Majora has such haunting innocence to her voice probably only there to manipulate poor skull kid
This is so good majora sings in a calm tone and as the song progresses she sings more like she's insane and at the end it's just madness
The moment when skull kid became the puppet of Majora, I had chills down my spine ! So awesome !
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Mine too. Majora playing catch with a reeeaaaaaaaally big ball.
