Thank you! It's intended as a scene change interlude, so it can't be too long. The revised version in the final score is a little bit more sparkly in instrumentation, but retains the scale. ^_^
This was great, and I love the general improvement of the instrumentals here especially. The woodblock effect you use with the postman to emphasize his time obsession is a nice detail for instance; there's also more intensity throughout the song, and the singers also seem to have a wider range with their vocals; the lyrics are also generally pronounced better. Not that the old demo was bad, of course, cause I actually liked that one a lot, but this is definitely an improvement!
My absolute favorite. From the incredibly hurdy gurdy intro, to the rich anju postman mom opera, and to the epic observatory outro, this is a masterpiece!!
God damn, that hurdygurdy Song of Storms at the beginning was something special. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that likes that horrible little instrument.
I really wish you would leave the old versions up on your channel as well. I would love to compare new and old models, and in some of these demos, I prefer the older style, even if they weren't professional singers, they were still damn good.
If this isn't the best damn arrangement of the Astral Observatory theme I've ever heard. Seriously, its so powerful, especially after the end of this scene. I get a little choked up every time I hear it.
OMG I never even knew something like this existed. ADORED this. Gorgeous stuff. Anju's story has always had a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing your talents!!
Dammit I love this XD but it took me far too long to realise that after the short Astral Observatory rendition at the end there was a hint of the Song Of Healing, may have fangirled a little bit
Heh, uploaded on Majora's birthday, I see. X3 This version, too, I will agree, is better than the first. And I've got to say, I feel foolish for only just noticing "Let me flee!"
OMG, I remember this from when in came from, it is great and a great improvement from the last one. But the nostalgic me wants to hear the last one again.
Still one of my favorite songs, though she said "That letter" when it was in her hand.... the perfectionist in me is cringing hard. Can't wait for the entire thing in a couple years or whenever!
Hmm... I can't really lay my finger on why, but I think I liked the original better... Don't get me wrong, I still think this version was amazing, and I absolutely loved it. Thought it was stellar, in fact, but for some reason there's something about the original that I found slightly more appealing.
The original was better. This one is more operatic. The excuse Beaut gives is that this is a "portfolio", which is retarded given it has so much conflicting work. Though tb this channel hasn't done fuck all in like 4 years but bullshit Q&A's.
Now the actress of Anju pronounces the name Kafei instead of Kafai. So it wasn't only because of the singing. But she has a good voice. However, I think the mother's actor is a bit too much vibrato.
The mention of "Kafai" was relative to Kafei's pronounciation of his own name in the Clock Town demo. The case with the old version of this demo was purely from the singer's accent. Depending on how high a note is within the range of a singer, the less clear pronounciation is. This is especially more common in high voices. In Anju's case, every mention of Kafei is in the medium-low area of her range, therefore easier to pronounce. For example, at the very loudest part of this demo, they're not really singing "ee," rather a sort of hybrid with "eh," because not only are they at their loudest, the pitches they're required to sing are high, so the mouth will open more to help projection.
I really like the changes to the orchestration, and Anju's voice is still solid! Is it me, or is the mother a bit weaker in her bottom register than the last one? Maybe this is the change from a contralto to a mezzo-soprano?
The mother is indeed a mezzo. Anju is not the same singer, as the previous one was a student and did not carry enough power for a fully operatic version. :)
Chaosdude7111 Yup. Partial re-recording. Some parts were fine from the old version, other parts could have been better, so they were made better for this one. ^_^ He's awesome.
+piluex2 You mean the whole 3+hour long work? The score should be ready this year. As for a live performance on stage, its very existence would depend on several factors, including permission from Nintendo, availability of opera houses, rehearsal time, etc. There are several Q&As that answer various questions about Majora, if you'd like to know more: th-cam.com/video/SSNtkI1m91A/w-d-xo.html
I had no idea what they were saying until I turned on CC. They could have thrown in a bit more talking instead of full high pitched singing. Also there was way too much banter. O.o
That's opera for you. Diction is often partially sacrificed because of the singing technique, so it's common today for opera houses to have subtitles. As for the rest, I'm assuming you're not familiar with the style. It is what the work is intended to be, though. There is a Q&A every Friday that covers plenty of questions about both the operatic style and how this adaptation is built: th-cam.com/play/PLO0uA5Q5rp-WCcYb0XV2xwulg2ZgvvIyJ.html :)
If I remember right, in one of the Q&As Bulteau stated that the postman will appear later in the play. He'll even get his own scene! It'll be the scene where he writes himself a letter in Majora's Mask. If you haven't found that scene in the game, I suggest you try doing so. It gives the postman another layer of character.
Once the Song of Storms started: Go around Go around Man I ffffing love this town Who’s this ffffing guy? What’s that thing and why? Watch him go This is wrong But he knows my favorite somg Lets all play the Song if Storms🎼🎼🎼
I must say that the music is way better than the old one. But i dont like the singing, the older one sounded more natural, still there are some parts that i really liked.

This and the last astral observatory versions are unbeliavable.
I want just a full version of this arrangement of Astral Observatory. I've probably heard it 100 times and I STILL get chills!
Thank you! It's intended as a scene change interlude, so it can't be too long. The revised version in the final score is a little bit more sparkly in instrumentation, but retains the scale. ^_^
The Astral Observatory rendition of this literally brought me to tears. Beautiful. Absolutely, undoubtfully, beautiful.

Beautiful piece! :) Never gets old. I can only imagine the power the scene will have when performed live.
God damn, that hurdygurdy Song of Storms at the beginning was something special. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that likes that horrible little instrument.
You're not alone :D
I love hurdy gurdy!!
I am so glad this exists...at the end when it broke it into the Astral Observatory music over the end slate, I actually broke into tears.
Still amazing and trully awesome. I certanily shed a tear when Anju sang "Please Mr Postman, I beg you".
I really wish you would leave the old versions up on your channel as well. I would love to compare new and old models, and in some of these demos, I prefer the older style, even if they weren't professional singers, they were still damn good.
This opera always make me cry :( it's so beautyfull
Have I mentioned that this is still my favorite thing in the whole world?
If this isn't the best damn arrangement of the Astral Observatory theme I've ever heard. Seriously, its so powerful, especially after the end of this scene. I get a little choked up every time I hear it.
Every now and then i remember this exists and come back to it
The jump into Astral Observatory is what I live for.
The hurdy-gurdy intro is what I live for
Thank you, M. Bulteau
OMG I never even knew something like this existed. ADORED this. Gorgeous stuff. Anju's story has always had a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing your talents!!
Beautiful!!! Lovely!!! awesome!!! i cant found more words to explain that feelling!!! Its majestic.... i love their voices!!!!
The instrumental part of Song of storms is wonderful!
Anju's mother's voice is MUCH better in this version.
Thank you, M. Bulteau!
Rellik165 I'm Anju the lady
Dammit I love this XD but it took me far too long to realise that after the short Astral Observatory rendition at the end there was a hint of the Song Of Healing, may have fangirled a little bit
How does this not have a million views, it's amazing!
I play this whenever rain is in the forecast for the next day
Wow I enjoyed that more than I thought I would. Well done people.
Finally someone mixed my two most favorite things, outstanding, I love it.
Came here because JohnJohnson said something awesome like this existed on your channel. Boy howdy, glad I listened to him. This is just brilliant! =)
I prefer the old version, but i'm in love whit this new version too, congrats!
I completely agree. I miss the old version better...
Beautiful. Excellent work as always.
Heh, uploaded on Majora's birthday, I see. X3

Bravo! This was so much better!
Ive had this piece stuck in my head for three days now. What have you done to me?
Still one of my favorite songs, though she said "That letter" when it was in her hand.... the perfectionist in me is cringing hard. Can't wait for the entire thing in a couple years or whenever!
Made me cringe too. My fault. Noticed too late. XD
What an interesting project!
Lot of yers and still in love with this demo. By the way, didn't you upload the Astral observatory song somewhere?
Hmm...
I can't really lay my finger on why, but I think I liked the original better...
Don't get me wrong, I still think this version was amazing, and I absolutely loved it. Thought it was stellar, in fact, but for some reason there's something about the original that I found slightly more appealing.
keep in mind that the old one wasn't in its opera form and this one is.... but i agree... mainly because iv'e listened to the old one so many times xD
otaku wannaB
Yep, I've heard the old one too many times and i like it a bit more than this one for that xD
The original was better.
This one is more operatic. The excuse Beaut gives is that this is a "portfolio", which is retarded given it has so much conflicting work. Though tb this channel hasn't done fuck all in like 4 years but bullshit Q&A's.
Can you make an orchestrated version like you did with the Deku Palace?
I am in love.
I love the hurdy gurdy!
What is the demo you're most proud of?
I need more of the song of storms please
The orchestra parts of the music are improved by quite a bit, and same with Anju's mother. However, I kind of miss the accent on Anju's voice.
Draco Blackstone I'm Anju the lady
Oh okay. for 20 years I thought the postman was just oblivious
I WANT IT!
It annoys me that people come in here and yell "the singing sucks!" without knowing a thing about how opera works...
Do all operatic singers use that much vibrato? It just seems a little excessive at some points.
+suspiciousbeast You have no idea

***** I see. Makes sense. Thanks for clarifying the technical aspects.
Why did you change the bagpipes (or ulieann pipes) to a MIDI sample? It sounds too low quality for the rest of the orchestra.
I didn't. ;)
That's a rather realistic sample of a hurdy-gurdy, which is intended to be what Guru-Guru would play on stage.
I suppose you've removed the older version of this as well? :c
It would be very interesting watching these demos without the silhouettes🤔
I really like the changes to the orchestration, and Anju's voice is still solid! Is it me, or is the mother a bit weaker in her bottom register than the last one? Maybe this is the change from a contralto to a mezzo-soprano?

I figured she wasn't the same singer, but she is still really good! The postman sounds the same as before. Is it the same guy?
Chaosdude7111 Yup. Partial re-recording. Some parts were fine from the old version, other parts could have been better, so they were made better for this one. ^_^ He's awesome.
Yeah, he is. I'm not normally a big fan of tenors (I'm a bass, and also a sopranist countertenor), but this guy is really good.
Hey, you have the unlisted version available but it's private! What gives?
If it's unlisted, it's not private, is it? You also seem to have commented on it before commenting here, so I'm not sure what you mean.
@@MBulteau Not for this one. :( I clicked the 2012 version and it says it's private, not unlisted.
when is the final cut going to be ready?
+piluex2 The final "cut" of what, exactly?
+M. Bulteau the opers I mean
+piluex2 You mean the whole 3+hour long work? The score should be ready this year. As for a live performance on stage, its very existence would depend on several factors, including permission from Nintendo, availability of opera houses, rehearsal time, etc.

It'll be the scene where he writes himself a letter in Majora's Mask. If you haven't found that scene in the game, I suggest you try doing so. It gives the postman another layer of character.
CMB505 The scene on the final day where he needs to pick between his duty and running away? Cos that was the scene I was hoping for
Shazza Kip I mention the Postman here: th-cam.com/video/8BeEDVMCXc8/w-d-xo.html :)
***** Ah, thankyou :)
Even though I've watched all of your q&a's I don't have the memory to remember all the details :(
Will you be posting the original again for the sake of timbre comparison?
Nope. Sorry.
This was covered some time ago here Majora - Q&A #13 - Tomás Costa: Details and old demos
***** Seriously though, the enunciation would go a really long way in regards to overall quality.
Marty2012 If you would like to help, send a light mezzo and a lyric bass who would be available to volunteer for the demos my way. ;)
The last interpretation of Anju was more Natural
That's opera for you. :)
Anju is Cinderella :D
This is nice, but I think the first one was waaaaaay better
Once the Song of Storms started:
Go around
Go around
Man I ffffing love this town
Who’s this ffffing guy?

Well, you are the expert here. I still enjoy the demo.
Keep up the good work C:
Postman really needs to enunciate.
I prefer the old version.
Anyone else playing this video with 0.75 speed?
STOP ERASE BULTEAU.
