This is the best size, looks and just overall watch in my opinion. Its just insane beauty. That bezel action is the best 60 clicks bezel ive ever heard. Its even better than 99% of 120 click bezels.
I very recently (Nov 2021) bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on the bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've owned for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex steel Sub in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it be when barely 40% of the retail price - go to an AD and try one on. In-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed.
Just got mine today pal! My local AD had all the Tudor range in. I wasn't keen on the new blue one this particular black one just oozes classics vintage style. Keep up the great work! Great informative video! Stay safe!
A.J. Ellis congrats!!!!! I think you made a good call. I was offered the blue recently, but I turned it down. I don’t think the rivet bracelet fits the blue as much as the black.
Since you've had all three, how would you rank this BB58, the Grand Seiko GMT with the 9F movement and Speedmaster? I have the same size wrist as you and I'm actually looking at all three of these watches to pick one to buy. The Grand Seiko is about $1k cheaper than the BB58 for me. The Speedmaster is about $1k more than the BB58, though I'd try for the reduced version which is about the same price as the BB58. Is the BB58 worth the extra money over the GS? How does the Speedy compare? Thanks!
Sorry for my delay! If you still care to know, I would rank them like this… Speedy > Tudor BB58 > GS GMT. The Grand Seiko is finished arguably better than the Tudor and is an amazing piece, but i enjoy the classic submariner design. The Grand Seiko clasp is lacking with no micro adjustment.
My only “issue” with the watch is the lack of a slide on the clasp...or an adjustment system. I’ve had mine for around a month and as the temperature fluctuates, it can get tricky outside. Other than that, I’m still staring at this thing constantly. I never take it off.
I’d definitely buy a sliding adjustment clasp aftermarket! Also, they could have made mine with a 12-hr power reserve; I never take it off for more than 8 hrs at a time…
why does everybody feel the need to slate the rivets it's getting boring!! Almost all cars have faux skirts air ducts and spoilers that at 70mph are doing exactly nothing it's just a design flare. The nod to the vintage look is what this watch is all about so why the hell not have faux rivets? I so wish people who don't like something about it would try not to buy it. TBH the whole damn watch is faux it's not a vintage just a great looking timepiece. I don't have one i have the BB Bronze brown dial but i have to say the 58 is just perfect but too similar to my sub so i couldn't really justify it.
Yes. Only complaint is the butterfly hinge at the clasp portion of the bracelet is rather large, so you want to make sure you size the bracelet right so that it follows the curve of your wrist.
Just curious about your BB58 bracelet, I have noticed you’ve sized it with equal links of five on each sides. Would it be generally more comfortable to remove a link(or two)from 6 O’clock side(inside) and move it to 12 O’clock side(outside) instead? As wrists are usually unequal in length (inside being shorter than outside). Otherwise your watch would always seem to hate you, because it would tend to look away from you whenever you flick your wrist.
You ar correct Capt Love,i adjusted mine to 5 links both sides, but i am about to remove 1 link from the 6 o'clock side, as the clasp isn't sitting in the centre of my under wrist, and my watch moves away to the outer side of my wrist, which is annoying......
Good review , went to a AD today to have a look , didn’t have any in stock and no idea when they will have any in , had a few black bay 41’s , a bit top heavy though ..
I love that watch. Came very close to buying one, but in the end I bought one of the last previous gen Omega SMPC's. Wish the bracelet on the Omega tapered.
@@horologyproject that would be awesome. When it came out I tried on the latest SMPc at the Omega Boutique in Chicago, but it was just too big. Was fortunate that stock of the previous gen was still available at the time. The BB58 is a perfect size. Outstanding review, btw. You keep getting better with each video. I want to say the first video of yours I watched was on the Q Timex. I bought one, but gave it away a few weeks later. Come to think of it, that watch was a great size on my 6 3/4 inch wrist! Grateful to have subscribed at that time. Keep up the great work!
Matthew Davis thanks! That means a lot. I have had to do a lot of these videos quickly. But I look forward to the day where I can dedicate some more time on the videography. I try to give my honest reviews. I ended up selling the SMPc because it was too big. The version that you have is perfect sizing, though! Thanks for subscribing. And I’m happy to hear that you’ve been watching since the Timex Q!
Brilliant review, mine arrived yesterday on the nato. I absolutely love it. I actually love the aluminium insert and the fact that its no date. The chamfered edges on the case and lugs are the real surprise with this piece. I love the vintage vibe and the links with the past. I understand what you mean about nerfing the upgrades but to me its still a watch whose finishing far exceeds anything else in my collection.
I have 6.5in wrists also. Considering purchasing the speedy moonwatch. In your experience, does the moonwatch feel to big and thick on wrist? I’m worried it’s too big for my wrist.
It’s actually 40mm but they say 42mm because they include the crown guards. I thought the same thing until I tried one on then bought it on the spot, love my speedy and bb58.
I have a 7 inch wrist, very flat across the top. I’m deciding between this and the omega smpc (2012-2017 version)...and the thing holding me back from choosing the Tudor is will 39mm be too small for my 7 inch wrist?
I’d suggest trying one on as it might not be as bad as you think but you can get a bigger Tudor black bay also which is 40mm+ I believe, try to book with your local AD to try both Tudor sizes and the omega :)
Thank u 👍.....I actually have the black bay 58 arriving today. Lol. I decided to just go for it. I really wanted a smaller watch than my last one, which was a 41mm omega aqua terra. The Tudor is almost 2 mm’s thinner than the omega, as well as 2 mm smaller in diameter. But both have same lug to lug. I’m kind of done w/ over size watches.
Agree with your thought about the differentiation between Rolex and Tudor and that it's on purpose... However, I am a fan of the faux rivets and the tapering style of the watch. It is a vintage inspired watch and even though it has no purpose, it's all about the emotions that you get from the watch... There's a lot of things that are ”unnecessary” per se, but it's the emotions we're getting from the watch that makes us feel good:) enjoyed the vid!
I have only just purchased this same BB 58 watch, and i just love it,in regards to the rivets, they Are not as noticable in real life, the camera does show the rivets more noticable than they are....
@@horologyproject You complain about the rivets a Crown Guard would devastate the look of this watch. Personally I would never buy a watch with Crown guards I detest them. Fantastic review I do own. This watch wouldn’t swap it for any other watch out there.
I know there's a market for both the Tudor BB at 41mm, as well as this model at 39mm. I do wonder, however, that if Tudor had released part of its modern BB sports range in 39mm from the start, then its sales would have been even more successful! How many times have we read that 39mm is in the Goldilocks zone? It's all subjective of course but if the hype and popularity of the BB 58 is anything to go by then I do wonder.....
I’m thinking the observation of Rolex intentionally as you call it nerfing Tudor would be an obvious move. Making the Tudor pretty much the same would be bad for business. That said I think of them as standalone brands with their own unique styles and pretty much equal build quality. If you want crown guards and ceramic then you need to save more money me personally I think Rolex are beautiful but vastly overpriced hence I’m thinking my Tudor GMT far more bang for my buck 👌🏽
This is still an oversized watch. 12mm thick is too much for 39mm diameter. It’s lug to lug is stupid long at 48mm. What a fail. So much for a “smaller” watch.
Ferien7 id have to disagree with the thinking. It’s 11.9, but that is including the domed sapphire crystal. So if you take that away it’s more like 11mm. It is super thin for a diver. I think a 46/47mm lug to lug would have been better.
I gotta ask cause I’m deciding between this and the omega seamaster professional ceramic (2012-2017 version).....I have exactly a 7 inch wrist, very flat across the top...would 39 mm just be too small? That’s my biggest and only worry keeping me from choosing it thus far, Thanks!
