About The Song
------
This song has obviously had very significant meaning to most Vocaloid listeners for a long time, and likewise it's always been significant to me.
I consider it one of the few Vocaloid songs that are truly timeless, and wowaka is still one of my favorite producers. Even long after his death, I feel that he is unparalleled, and there may never be anyone who is truly equal to his sound.
Though this isn't my favorite song by him, it is certainly his most iconic one, and it's been a long time since I saw a brand new cover of it that really did it justice.
Cillia's cover of it with Mawarine Shuu is actually the entire reason I got into UTAU in the first place- so once again, we've made a cover that brings us full circle, LMAO.
Even now, there is still a viscerally relatable feeling to the thought of the protagonist endlessly chasing their hopes and dreams, yet they always feel so far away no matter how hard they try. But even when they fall and hurt themself, they try again.
A lot of people interpret the ending to be the Rolling Girl deciding to kill herself, and they interpret the boy who's with her to be the manifestation of depression.
But instead I like to imagine that the person who holds the girl in the end is someone who cares about her.
Yes, he is presented in the beginning as if he were cruel, or hurting her, but I feel like that is how we sometimes view the people who try to help us when we're depressed. We often interpret their attempts to get us to stop doing harmful and self destructive things as attempts to hurt us and hold us back.
But notice that that section of the PV is all in black and white, but when the Rolling Girl finally accepts the boy's embrace, that is the only time the PV is full of color.
I imagine that saying she must be tired and asking her to stop her breath, he's telling her to finally rest and stop hurting herself in pursuit of success.
Anyway, that's the idea I went with for this cover at least.

About Production
------
PHEW, this cover was a looong time coming. I tuned it years ago, but I had such trouble mixing with the original version. Then, I found out that my favorite remix of the song had an official instrumental that you could buy on bandcamp- so I did !
I was originally planning on a simple PV, but when I commissioned art from Awoito, they surprised me with an entire sequence ! I couldn't let all that amazing work go to waste, so I set to making a full PV, and that took me a few weeks too LMAO
But now, it's finally all done, and I'm satisfied with how it all turned out

Amazing. I didn’t expect the use of the falsetto so often, but it worked so incredibly well. It gave downtime between the loud and its something I hope to work into my own tuning more often!!

Just like wow. Nicky, you are so amazing like AAA I'm gonna have this on repeat for weeks. Rolling girl has been a very special song to me since I was a little kid, and I also got into UTAU (and Shuu!) a lot because of Cillia's cover, so this is really cool to see. I absolutely adore the PV (Awoito did SUCH a good job on the art!!), especially when Shiki showed up at the end :,))) I also really enjoy the more hopeful interpretation of this song, so that was so sweet seeing her show up

It's barely 8 in the morning, I was simply looking for a male cover of Rolling Girl to listen to while I drew a piece relating to the song with a male character as the focal point. I have both NEVER heard this remix of Rolling Girl, and NEVER heard this UTAU before. This is, for the first time in YEARS, that I have been fooled by an UTAU into thinking it was a human. And, the first time since those sad few months after wowakas passing, that I have cried listening to this song. It is CRIMINAL that this video only has three thousand views. I wish you the best in your future works, because you deserve recognition for this, and the other works of yours I had quickly skimmed to see if they were all as good as this. I listened to it a few times, and decided to shift focus to my lost ones weeping piece, which was shockingly topical considering that preview I had saw. Still ended up listening to this while doing that piece though! I'd love to show, but I understand how the last place you'd want to touch a random link from is a youtube comment. In the end, I'm very proud of the outcome, and I think some of the emotions of the piece came through better because I was listening to such a powerful, emotional song that was filled with a mixture of hope and frustration! Looking at the original Japanese, you notice that some of the dialog doesn't even have quotations; I think those parts are the person talking to themself, and the parts with quotations are them talking to other people who are trying to encourage them to stop overworking themself.
