This also is a wonderful as well as useful post.
When I was a very young boy I used to give no importance at all to the lyrics of any song. The lines might have been got mixed while singing a song. Diction might not have been correct. There was no idea about bhavam or feel. Only tune was the thing that came into my notice.
That was why I made no progress in cultivating much interest in music. Further our family was more inclined towards Carnatic Music in which , in most of the sabhas , the singers give importance to Ragam, thalam etc more than the feel of the lyrics. So I was more self-trained that way only, and I was given no formal training too. A Dasettan had to come to usher in an ocean of change in the way in which real music is to be enjoyed and appreciated in my family. And in classical music a BMK had to come into my notice innovate and introduce beautiful changes. Tragically he is not understood fully and appreciated here in Kerala as is done elsewhere.
Now about Deepu’s video.
We have to hear the song multiple times to get the tune.
My experience is that one has to ask his friends to help him by advising as to your singing is correct or not. There are subtle things which come into one’s notice even after multiple hearing. I watch most of the top singer-star singer variety programs and often I get often amazed at the information that the judges pour in there. Some of your friends who are good listening talents will be of immense use to you in this case.
As long as Deepu was here in his younger years he used to sing in front of me and often I was surprised at his ability to get into the minutest details.
Deepu, wonderful and very useful video.
One can sing the song with the original with ears focused on the original and the singer’s voice simultaneously. Will that not help?
Thank you so much!! Yes, i think the idea that you mentioned also will help. WIll talk about it in the next episode.

Deepak,
Thanks for part II of singing film songs with karaoke. Though I am not a serious singer, I have some experience with using Audacity software . But practicing at a lowered temp is a new idea for me. With my limited exposure on this software , I can share with you some points which are relevant in using the software for the application you mentioned in part II:
1. Audacity is a freeware and I feel is not complicated.
2. One can change Sruthi, tempo and both together.
3. Original track and the karaoke can be opened as separate tracks on the same page.
4. For practicing with lowered tempo, the karaoke track can be kept muted, and tempo of both original and karaoke tracks can be reduced. Original track can be played till you get an idea about the microtones (?).
5. You can mute the original track, unmute karaoke and practice the nuances you have just picked up.
6. The only problem is that while reducing tempo, one has to select both the original and karaoke tracks so that the tempo that you listen to and practice are the same.
Thank you so much! Yes, like Audacity, any DAW - Digital Audio workstation can be used ( I use MacBook- Logic) . People can also use any speed changer apps or online websites too, without going through DAWs like Audacity/ Logic etc

Pronunciation
Yes, its pronunciation. Thank you for pointing it out. But - On the lyrics part - That is extremely important. I hope you change your views.
