Ollie and Steph tour this incredibly city, finding out about its history, marvelling at its buildings... and needless to say having a lot of fun along the way!
Thankyou Stephanie and Ollie, Ollie has a wealth of knowledge as does Stephanie, your friendship shines through, Porto is so beautiful. Thankyou again for taking us along on your travels.🙏👍❤️
@@joaorosado7106isso e a parte de mudar a importância de Guimarães para o Porto e a importância do Arcebispo de Braga da altura para a do Bispo do Porto 🤦♂️
I have visited many countries and cities over the years and I have to say without any reservation that Porto is at the very top. Not #2 not #3 but the absolute #1. I simply cannot find any other combination of beauty, culture, weather, food, safety, people as in Porto. Just absolutely mind-boggling
If anyone goes to Porto please take time to go on the scenic train from Porto up the Douro river to Picinho . We went on a Sunday when you get longer at this station. There isn’t a lot to see & we wondered what we were going to do, but we ended up going to a local restaurant that the Train driver & conductor went into for Sunday lunch . It was very Portuguese/ authentic & quite cheap for one of the best meals we had in Porto😊 . Also, the Sao Bento station is beautiful with the blue tiles . Not sure whether Oliver & Stephanie will show anymore of Porto in another vlog ?
Oliver is such a joy to watch ❤his eyes just dance when he’s talking about the wonderful sites that we might never be able to see if not for Travels with my friend❤
Porto is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe! I had the pleasure of visiting about 5 years ago and stayed at charming "boat hotel" on the river Douro where the sunsets and sunrises on the water were stunning. Thank you for reminding me of this magical places, and for adding in all kinds of tidbits I missed the first time around. You two are fabulous guides!
Hi There from Sydney, isn't Porto a fabulous city thank you for your wonderfully informative vlog I look forward to the next episode Best Wishes &Safe Travels ✈️
I travel virtually from my house in Australia because of you two! I'm getting too old for walking those wonderful lanes & buildings, but because of Ollies great history lessons I'm getting my fill of Europe's best. Thank you, thank you, Lenore from NSW.
I visited Porto last year with my mom and cousin, seeing many of these sites. It is so wonderful to have the history and background descriptions of the beautiful sites we visited from the two of you!! I love this type of vlog. So accessible and enriching for all, even anyone who hasn't yet had the chance to visit Porto.
The Cathedral, Stock Exchange, the Majestic cafe and the view from the Tower were stunning. I agree about the colour palette in the Cathedral. Superb history knowledge. Well done on the stamina involved on these tours. These vlogs are wonderful.
A very well researched and charming video about a great city. Stephanie, consider wearing comfortable low heel lace up shoes, like simple flat trainers or similar lace ups, which cushion and support your feet instead of those unhealthy pointy shoes which make you scrunch up your feet with every footstep and are definitely bad for your hips. Comfort before style on any longer walk will save you a lot of pain, including on you morning walk back home !
I've just stopped the video at around 4 minutes in, to say thank you, wonderful knowledge, information, filming, making me look forward to my visit next month even more.
Magnificent Porto. I am impressed you both did all that walking and stairs. Thanks for the history tour. Ollie, you do have a wealth of knowledge of history, as do you, Stephanie. I rarely give a negative remark, but Ollie, I did notice that you wore your lovely hat inside the church. That was a huge no-no when I was young.😅 I love every episode you both have done so far. ❤
Amazing. Have been to Porto but didn’t do enough research obviously. You two have opened my eyes to all the history we missed. A beautiful city. And wonderful history lesson. Thank you both.
I stayed in Porto in 1980 for work and on arrival at the hotel my boss made me choose between the two room keys and I got a lovely suite with air conditioning and huge bath. Next day my boss didn't appear at breakfast so I had to get the concierge open his door and he appeared looking dreadful, he didn't get any sleep, the room was tiny and there was no air condtioning and the windows didn't open ! His assistant had booked me that room and my room of course was his! I will never forget the Porto cellars, so cool and tasting the different years and then going outside to 40° heat and falling flat on my face !
My goodness Stephanie you certainly walked an amazing amount of steps, no wonder you stay fit and slim. Ollie's history information is really interesting, I have learned so much from this video. Thank you so much, I will have a special thought goung through my head now when I next eat a Custard Tart....invented by Monks in the 13 centuary, who would have known that. 💕🇦🇺
When you see those beautiful doorways locked up with a chain and padlock you can often see daylight through the crack in the door. Portugal was very poor until recently and now many of those lovely old gutted buildings are being renovated inside...there are cranes all over Lisbon and Porto fixing up those interiors. Everyone should visit to see the gorgeous faded glory before it's all cleaned up and made new. It's incredibly beautiful.
Wow! Imagine all the hungry people around the world that could be fed. I agree with Stephanie, the gold is beautiful but I love the painted walls and tiles. Thank you for sharing the history with us Ollie and Stephanie. That room in the stock exchange is incredibly beautiful. Thanks for taking us along, I really enjoyed this.
Thank you so much for sharing such interesting bits of history, incredible scenery, amazing architecture, culture, and especially the joy of your friendship! So silly at the truth arch! Lol 😂. Steph; you are the most delightful pill! Lol! I recognize glimpses of that same humor in Amery and his parents! 🥰
WOW! What a magnificent and beautiful place to visit. Thank you Ollie and Stephanie for this wonderful tour. I so enjoy this channel and learn so much history from you both and see places around the world that I’ll never see in person. Very nice seeing Philip at the end too. ❤❤❤❤ love to you all.
So very stunning!!! Cannot tell you how much these vlogs mean, as I can learn and see so much so much of what I never would in my lifetime. It is certainly a beautiful country with so many old riches. The Gold is unbelievable in the cathedrals, You both are perfect working together in such sync as , you just can pick right up where the other leaves off, and each word spoken so distinctly. Really do enjoy the excitement you both show and your ability to explain the hx of each place visited ! Thank you!!
I wish you could visit Madeira island. It’s extremely beautiful and very welcoming. Many historical sites, delicious food, beaches, levadas and ancient trees. Very loved by our British friends and many other countries. Winston Churchill visited a few times, and they built a statue to honour him in front of is favourite café in camera de lobos. Margaret Thatcher also visited Madeira and its Cristiano Ronaldo home. There is many hidden spots that many tourists don’t know and the uk agencies don’t advertise that I wish people would see.
Loved the episode and found some more info: The art of mosaic originated in the Middle East and the earliest surviving example can be dated to Sumeria in 3500 B.C. Greeks and Romans excelled in floor and pavement mosaics made up of coloured marble cubes set against a light background. Roman floor mosaics still exist throughout the Mediterranean world.
What a gorgeous, gorgeous room (the one that took 18 years to complete). I would happily move my house contents into it - with perhaps a few upgrades - and just live with all that beauty (hmm - might get bored).
My fav sandwich is always eaten on Dec. 26 , It consists of two slices of homemade white bread (with crusts removed )first slice placed on a plate then cover with dark turkey meat , a slice of stuffing , a tbsp of real cranberry sauce( spread around) then covered with second slice of bread and smothered with leftover turkey gravy mmm mmm mmm,,,,,,how many days until Christmas ,,,,,,loving the travels with you two , always informative as well as fun !! Cherryl from Canada
Thank you for bringing back so many memories. We stayed in Porto in 2018 @ the Pestana Vintage Hotel in the Rebeira district . In fact you were sat having a snack right beside it . Had to laugh when you ended up in MacDonald’s , as my husband and I never go in them but we did go in there for a coffee due to atrocious weather. ( rain ).Lovely chandeliers 😊 .We, also ,went in the Majestic cafe -lovely cake 🍰.
such glorious churches and the stock exchange room was magnificent! the little streets and the old houses just wonderful to walk through. another incredible tour!
Loved it, subscribed your channel after this spectacular tour that you provided, it was as if seeing through one's own eye. Now guys that is what is called a Tour.

Another amazing vlog. I am hoping to go on a river cruise next year up the Douro river to Porto, well you have certainly made my mind up lol. Thankyou 🤗
Thank you so much for showing the world my country. I visited Porto many years ago and it’s beautiful, full of culture and delicious food and wine. Lupin seeds are one of my favourite treats followed by the pastéis de nata, pastéis de bacalhau, empanadas made with corn flour, milho frito, polvo and many more.
