I was wondering if the sound went off in certain places in the video on purpose during the editing process. It seemed to me that the timing of the sound going off was censoring of content that someone decided was either incorrect or inappropriate. When I look at what the topic was that was being talked about, it seemed like when editing, it was decided to leave parts out without cutting into the flow of the visual. That is my guess anyway. Notice the content when the sound cut off. She was talking about King Ferdinand "living in sin" with the woman opera singer and about their room situation. Another time, she was talking about workers or even "slaves".....My guess is censorship.
Hi Stephanie, the Portuguese you are learning it's not the Portuguese from Portugal, it is Portugal from Brasil! I'm Portuguese and I'm very happy watching you in your trip to Portugal ❤
I was about to say the same. Português from Portugal is a bit different from Brasil Português. Some words can be offensive in Brasil while in Portugal they are not.
@@jimdepereira985 Ollie, did the same with the Spanish course he was taking and he never read my comment where I was telling him that Spanish was from Mexico not Spain. Two different ways to interpret the same thought.
Thank you for another great video however the sound was dropping out frequently! Great place and your passion makes all the difference on how it can be appreciated 🙏👏😀
I was wondering if it was just me or everyone was having sound issues. Good to know others were having issues as well. Great video despite the sound issues.
This palace is absolutely marvelous. Every room was interesting and particularly the arches, tile work and amalgamation of styles. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! What a treat!
Stephanie as my health is poor, you have made my wish come true to see these amazing places. Thank you i feel like i am there ! Amazing.Thank you and your friend! I also watch his journey on he and his wife channel . God speed , Jeffrey Skinner. XXXXX
I can’t imagine how all the workers and artisans who created the palace arrived at work every day with their lunch pails , did their jobs and went home each day. They must have stayed there until their work was done. It’s hard, in the twenty first century to conceptualize.
My grand- daughter married a young man with family roots in Portugal. Such a lovely place! Thanks Stephanie and Oliver, for taking this trip, and sharing them all with us through the vlogs and in such a wonderful way! Have been learning so much as well of their history!
I am captivated by your vlogs and all they contain made even more interesting by your passion and dedication to finding out all about the history of the time. You really ough to have another TV production, but together. Fascinating and so informative! PS the audio dropped out several times in case you were unaware.
Another amazing location. I love the history lesson too. So little time was spent on Portuguese history during my primary and secondary education. Beyond Henry the Navigator, Ferdinand Magellan and Vasco de Gama, I don't recall much. The sound editing was a bit frustrating, but it wasn't bad enough to bail. There were some beautiful fabrics throughout, too many to mention. The Vista Alegra porcelain is lovely. I can see why Camilla likes it. It really is of exceptional quality. I've never run across that in charity shops. Philip must have been loving the experience. I'd love to know what the Master of Tassels thought of the pretty trims on the chaise longue. Thanks again for bringing us along on your adventures. ❤ from TX!
Thank you showing the inside of this palace. My husband and I have visited the Penna Palace x2 but never got to look inside the palace as the queues were too long. The views are beautiful.
Why does the sound disappear when you are talking about the construction of the building (I think in reference to who actually did the work to build it)? Has it been censored?
Estou adorando ouvir a Stephanie falar em português! 🥰(I just love to hear Stephanie speaking in Portuguese). When I started the video and heard her speaking Portugueses I thought I was in the wrong link hahahaha
I was intrigued by the last item of the menu in the dining room. so much so that I looked it up: plombière au parfait. Ends up that it is a parfait (in other words layers of either ice cream (French) in honor of Napoleon, served with a chocolate sauce between the layers or a caramel sauce layered between custard layers) of ice cream that is made from cream, fresh egg custard, sugar and fruit confits steeped in kirsch for 2 weeks then blended into the cream custard, frozen then layered with a complimentary sauce, usually chocolate but sometimes caramel or port custard. Plombière refers to the type of goblet that was used to hold the parfait - lead crystal. Hence the name "plombiere" derived from "plomb" which is "lead" in French. It is also said that the first ever ice cream molds (popular in Victorian times and 19th century) were in fact made of lead.
Ooops the sound dissapeared twice.... wonder what's happening? Only commenting aobut this as I love hearing all the details...oh no again the sound dissapeared... It's so intresting to hear these details. Ollie and Steph are doing so well.
Oliver and Stephanie-do you already know all this amazing historical information before you go to the site or do you research before your filming? Do you have notes you work from? I’m curious about your process….and the outtakes! Also, what are the silent portions of the narratives? Is it due to potential incorrect info that had to be removed?
So for the first time ever there's two videos out right now and rather than click on the one from the main Channel I'm definitely more excited to watch this one🎉🎉🎉
Sintra is more then Pena Palace or Quinta da Regaleira, u have Monserrate palace, the Vila Palace, the convent of Capuchos, the mourish castle, Colares, Azenhas do Mar, the beaches (amazing Adraga to Praia das Maçãs), the sweets (Queijadas, Travesseiros or the "golden nuts"), Cabo da Roca, and the suculent pig of Negrais.
Stephanie and Oliver your enthusiasm and Joie de Vivre naturally transports us all xx another wonderful Vlog ! Channel 4 should give you your very own channel ! It would be such a winner x love the humour of friendship between you ! Philip we know how involved you too are ! simply silent so as to not intrude XXX well done all and much love to all xxx
I just wanted to say something! If you say desculpa to random people you dont know its seen as rude! You would say perdão or desculpe! something that you cant learn with an app ALSO american/brasilian portuguese is kind of different so be aware of that
Thanks for the relaxing vlog in this time of war in ISRAEL😓 After the horror murders and kidnappings!! I'm sure that you know...HOPE FOR BETTER DAYS🙏 Mona from Israel♥️🌷
Very extravagant! Just my style! lol Could not imagine the climbing though to get there but guess with a Castle like this, you would stay right there most the time with much to do. Painting away the days and nights, Reading and writing and just making sure all is done as you would please! What a life. At least until you are, 'assassinated! ' Seems like these poor Kings could not stand a chance! But they sure lived the perfect life for several years. But unfortunately, their lives were cut shorter than it should have been. So hard to be the ruler and to realize you will make enemies, as not all can think or agree alike. Much jealousy! They paid highly for all the fame and elegance, in the end. But I guess they had fun while they could! Most would only dream of this kind of living now. The wives were not the most gorgeous of all of the kingdom as you may expect, I noticed and am so surprised. (Depends on where love ends up though. There is much more than looks involved.) But maybe the styles were different, and they did not have the ability to maybe fix up like one can today and do so much to try to look young or dye hair or do things as such, to be nice looking including the "extensions" it was harder in those days to really be photogenic and that was just for pictures in later years. Often a painting was all that could be relied on. The paintings and artwork were fabulous, as well as choices of China and furnishings. LOVED that dining-room/refectory, and that is what I truly found to pop right out, as it is that kind of style, that seems so perfect in a castle, at least!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Stephanie, and Oliver for making this vlog a success and so enjoyable! Could not imagine seeing this in person, and all the 'tiles' all over the Castle was marvelous to say the least! Am positive this was hard work especially done in those times with what they had to work with!
@@marielcalder103 thank you very much.. sitz bath or hip bath … you’re awesome 👏. Thanks for the help..! I’m restoring a old home and I want one of these baths for my dog wash room
So glad that you got to the Pena paiace. I visited it many years ago. The interiors are wonderful and the architecture is stunning. The views are truly magnificent. Hope you also got to the city palace in Sintra with its two towers. The Ajuda palace is also lovely. Queen Maria Pia, grandmother of King Carlos lived there. She was great friends of Queen Alexandra. Sadly the subtitles are not working very well.
i take it you arent a big fan of that dining furniture style. Some of that tile looks like the ones billy may use by the organ.Wish i could have seen more pan of the room as stephanie explained things.
The sounds keeps dropping out and coming back, but it is a beautiful travel log which I love.
Same. I am wondering if YT is messing with things.
