I carry a Buck 389 Canoe everyday. This knife is a high-value, pocket knife. Good steel with an excellent heat treat. Sharp out of the box and fairly easy to hone the edge to bring the edge back when needed. Looks great, good fit and finish on mine. Priced reasonably. Most importantly it cuts. - Tennessee Smoky

Nice solid canoe! I don’t have any Bucks yet. I did get my first Old Timer, good knife. I think that’s pakkawood, which is basically a wood-veneer micarta, layers of wood highly compressed with resin. I have some 1980s Frost knives handled in pakkawood dyed in hideous rainbow hues. Lol. Yours is much nicer.

Great video. My favorite traditional pocketknife is the Buck 389 Canoe and I own two. The way it rides in the pocket is perfect for loose cargo shorts or work jeans. The shape is slightly wide/convex so it works its way into the bottom of a pocket perfectly and it doesn't poke or rub. The two blades are more than enough for 99% of what I do around the cabin homestead and the pen blade is what I use most. I also carry an old Gerber EZ Out for the other 1%. I used to carry a 301 stockman but now it's the canoe.

Beautiful wood grain on yours. I enjoy the Buck Canoe hallow ground designed blades. Wood grain pattern of the knives are center well on both sides. I have several and have found jigged bone and dyed blue bone versions.
I do wish Buck would make in the USA. A very good pocket carry and small work knife.
I enjoy your contributions to your channel, great job, keep it Real👍😎

Recently purchased the Walmart exclusive brown, jigged bone version and it is sweeeeet! I especially love the golden hue of the bolsters. They must mix some brass in with the other metals. Also, the fit and finish are way better than you'd expect, given the price, under $12.00! Of course, it is made in China, which sucks, but that doesn't seem to bother most. I'd pay double the price if Buck could make them domestically. I do own several USA made Buck knives and they are wonderful.

Thanks for a great review video George !
The old style Buck (and for me Case) are favorites.
Seems a few moments of sharpening and you’ve got a winner.
For the budget conscious they can often be found at flea markets / garage sales for a few (you guessed it) Bucks :)
The style is referred to as a “Slip Joint” without a “Half Stop” - which is a safety feature. I like it on a knife I may hand to someone that isn’t too proficient with closing pocket knives. THe smoothness of motion and snap when fully opening or closing is called “Walk and Talk”. Just a little knife guy terminology.
Somehow the Buck Canoe hasn’t found its way into my life yet.
    Going to change that soon.
Good to see you and looking forward to the trip video’s.
May all of your journeys be adventures and your havens safe.

It’s a nice looking knife for sure. I tend to stay away from 420 steel unless it’s HC myself. So that would be the major drawback for me. It’s a shame a company like Buck went the cheap route.
