Making RV Travel With Cats Easy

  • #ilovervlife #TravelingWithCats #RVingWithCats Is it easy to make RV travel with cats easy? It can be with any pet, but cats can be a little more of a challenge. For many cats, noisy surroundings can make them a little skittish. And when compared to traveling with dogs, there is less of an opportunity for them to get water or take a pet bathroom break outside of the vehicle. Over the past several years of travel with our Mink and Molly and speaking with other cat owners, we’ve found cats are more comfortable staying inside the truck until we reach the campground. But, there were steps to take to keep them safe and comfortable during the long miles of RV travel.

    Almost exactly the sort of setup i've put together in the rear cab of my truck for when kitty and I hit the road full time in a couple of months. Good to see others have the same idea.

    In our Class A Diesel Pusher, we put a harness on the cats and their leash. They have the run of the coach and if they get near the driver, the passenger leans over and grabs the leash. They have their litter box and water available just like when we are parked. Leash also keeps them safe when we move them from the house to the coach. I made a cover out of 1/8" Masonite to keep them out from under the dash when we are parked. One of the cats likes to sing to us for most of the time we are moving and will occasionally they will climb into the passengers lap.

      We’re amused how each one has their own personality. Mink will chat to us about bumpy roads. Molly is just chill. They continue to be good RV travelers as we start our 11th year.

    Great video, we were faced with the same issue. We are full time and travel with 4 cats. We came up with a very similar set up as you guys. We have the exact same litter box but we place it on the floor of the truck behind the passenger seat (fits in there very snug). We then got one of those water proof pet rear seat covers for the back see of trucks. We then got the Bushwhacker Dog Barrier that acts in the same way as your spider mesh to keep them all in the back seat. We are 18000 miles into fulltime and it is working great.

    We travel with 3 kitties. They each have their own condos (pet carrier). Wifey sits in the back with them. We lay the 60 side of the bench down. Plenty of room in the Megacab for that. They do bathroom breaks at rest stops. We parked away from traffic. So far it works for us.

      The 2014 rear floor has a frame that’s higher than the foot area. Newer trucks fixed that with the entire area one level with the seats raised.

    We have six cats. We travel with two large crates and allow two cats to roam free. We keep litter boxes in the crates. We dont feed them during the drive and offer water at rest stops. They do very well and we dont have to take them out of the truck until we have the rv set up and ready

    Oh gosh, my cats would get through that mesh in two seconds! They would also jump up on the back seats and scratch the leather. Just put the pet tube on the platform you built, and put the smaller liter box sideways in one end of the pet tube.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not this mesh. This stuff is heavy duty. Our two aren’t that aggressive. So far, the long trip solutions is working well.

    Well done love the setup, we travel with our 2 cats, Zoey and Zack, but we have a class A and they both have their safe spots when we start driving. For us every hour and a half we stop, let the drink and use their litter box if needed, luckily we have a bath and a half, litter box goes in the half bath. Both love traveling and camping with us, and we would not have it any other way.

    We keep our kitty harness on her when she is in our truck. We also put a leash on whenever we are transferring her from the truck to the trailer. My fear when we started traveling would be she would get scared and run out of our arms. Glad you got your kitty back. We have a enclosed litter box that we have found to fit in the floor of the truck and also be used in the trailer. Don't like those long travel days, yet sometimes it is necessary.

    I'm wanting to build out a 100% Stealth box truck with no windows to travel solo.
    I have a cat, but I'm not sure how to create a stealth CATIO to keep my little baby cool, while I gone for a couple of hours. I was thinking of creating a small opening in the floor down into a cage so she is covered, hidden, and has a breeze

    Unfortunately the pet tube does not protect them in a collision. My two cats and dog all have their own crash tested kennels in the truck.
    We travel 2 hours and then we break and go back in the trailer. Are the cats fond of the crates? Nope. Is it safe for them? Yes.

    I had a pound puppy that I traveled with for 13 years and there was never once an issue. From VA to NH, VA to FL I'd let her out, she would to her thing and come back. The stay cat I got stuck with has destroyed all my mini blinds, destroyed all my furniture. Open a window and it tore out the screen and came home a a week later infested with fleas. No way would I suggest anyone traveling with a cat! open the door and there gone. A dog will come back, good luck with a cat!
