- #pettravel #travelingwithcats #rvcatlitterbox Our RV travel has included our two cats, Mink and Molly, since day one. As with most pets, they're family and seem to enjoy RV travel as much as we do. Our biggest challenge has been the litter box. With cats, it's that necessary must have, but as those of use who travel with cats know - RV floor plans were not made for this essential item. We started off placing the litter box under the bathroom sink. It fit. The cats used it. But, cat litter was always in the floor and tracked throughout the RV. You could sweep it up and an hour later, more was in the floor. We came up with a great solution. A custom area with an entry next to the steps and a door to service the box from the pass through storage. This solution has been great. Worth the day of planning and the work to accomplish.
I also show how we travel with Mink and Molly in the back seat of the truck. As stated in the video, the link below is the same unit for the back seat pet tube that we are using.

Have issues managing pet hair? We found a couple products that help. The pet grooming glove is awesome. Use a couple times a month to remove both loose hair as well as that fine hair deep in the cats coat. Works great for dogs too. We also use this vacuum. Not to pricey, but good results on linoleum, engineered wood and carpet.

Thanks so much for the kind comment. Mink and Molly are our travel buddies. I think they enjoy the RV adventure as much as Joan and me, especially the squirrels outside the screen door. Moving the little box has made our live space much more enjoyable. The joke now among our fellow RV'ers is Mink and Molly now have their own on-suite. Just too funny.

We use pine horse bedding that you buy at a tractor supply store and its amazing. Takes a little while for some cats to adjust, but it actually smells really nice (if you like a woodsy pine smell over normal cat litter) even when very full in a small open space. It costs $5 for a 40lbs bag that lasts us months with two cats. It's all natural, so no gross chemicals or dust which could result in serious vet bills down the line. Highly highly recommend!

Hi Jase. So glad you found the video helpful. Not to difficult of a project if you have basic carpentry skills. The little kitty "on-suite" has made a huge difference in our RV travels. Kitties like it and we like it more! Safe travels.
I know, right! It's like he just solved the greatest problem we could imagine having haha. I have three hairless cats (ages 11, 7, and 5.5) who LOVE traveling in the car and do great, but they get litter all over the place. I drive a tiny Smart Car, so I put a litter box in the front floor board and my belongings in the front seat, and the cats get entire back of the car. I want to get an RV and live in it full-time, and there's no way I'm getting rid of my boys. We all sure do love our kitties, don't we? :)
We also have 2 black sister kitties, and travel in a 5th wheel. What you made up was excellent. In our rig, we have a laundry shoot under the bathroon sink. Underneath, affectionately termed basement, we put 2 cages hooked together, and to the floor, one for food and water, the other for potty pan. They can come and go between anytime through the shoot, and all the mess is down there.

I have something similar in my house. Wall passage from the toilet room to the garage, works great.I strongly recommends installing a small computer fan to continuously vacuum out bad air.

If you get an actual kitty liter box it comes with a top which prevents them from spraying. Outside of box. Also, if you use WORLD’S BEST CAT LITER you’ll have no odors. Your idea was excellent.

Oh my gosh we have two black kitties too!!!! We just adopted them in January and will be camping with them for the first time this summer! This is a great solution for the the litter box!
The kitty on-suite is a game changer. Less litter tracking and less hassle cleaning the little box.

My 2017 Thor Quantum comes with the perfect spot for litter box. There is a sliding door on the bottom step, that leads into a compartment. Fits the litter box perfectly, and can be cleaned from outside the RV
That's super. We thought about pulling out one of the step drawers and doing something similar, but it opened to the entire storage area. We didn't want the kitties running all over the place, plus that area is cold in the winter....as I currently write this from Bristol, TN and it's been snowing since midnight :( I've seen others who removed one of the drawers under a dinette bench that seems to work well. For some reason, I just can't stand to be away from a saw and a sheet of plywood!!!!
I was just thinking of installing a car door in my front door then getting a pop up screen so they can’t escape at my rv Park

I highly recommend Slide cat litter. It's slightly more expensive, but it honestly is the least dusty and tracking litter I've ever used!!!!

I just love your kitties. Talkie, talkie, talkie. Cats are so intelligent. Mine comes when I call her and we play fetch. Just subscribed to your channel. In a year (Lord willing), I will be traveling with kitty so that we can move my wife up here with us. We will be in a Class B Winnebago Travato with a rear bathroom that can be closed off. The shower pan can fit the litter box when traveling and I can train kitty (Fido) to use that pet tube. It looks very comfortable. In the future, there will be a pup as well and that rear wetbath can be great place for her to shake off water instead of completely ruining the living space. She's a black cat as well - and she'll be 4 when we begin to acclimate in the RV. Although I am well aware that she needs to be crated when in a car, I wonder if she can be loose in the Travato as it is a motor home with nice windows for her to look out of - she loves looking out windows - but I do not have experience with motor homes (I have had trailers - no pet at the time). Back in the '80's when I didn't know any better, my cat (Tahti de la Face) traveled with me to Washington DC - loose in my car - sat on my lap and slept while I drove, but a previous cat would hide under the seat and then it took hours to "de-loose" her from that spot. I'm good with keeping keeping in that pet tube if necessary but I fear that over time she will rip at the holes (but maybe not as the holes are seemingly above her). Dro Pleckk Sounds like a great plan. We love our RV travel and taking the kitties along as well. I imagine the motorhome will give more space. Enjoy your travels. There's adventure around every corner.

I kept the litter box on a soft mat in the shower, Sass loved having his privacy. I used 2" of clumping litter, scooped every day, fresh litter every week and no odor problem. Slightly larger box meant no misses and I only had a little bit of litter trail, easily swept up.
LadyGecko we are just starting out with two kittens and a RV. Not real big but thinking shower also. With cleaning everyday do you think one box will work? Otherwise we will have to set up a table so they can stack.

You can get cat litter mats from Amazon that trap 90% of litter as they get out of the pan. They work.

2017 landmark Newport 365 with half bath. Installed a cat genie in the half bath with the dome and 2 cat genie mats. We never scoop cat crap. Fully automated just add granules and sanitizer cartridges as needed.

I have been looking for something to travel with cats in my chevy colorodo. This pet tube sounds great.
We've been using the pet tube for a couple of years. Big improvement over carriers. Gives Mink and Molly room to move around plus they are very social allowing them to be close to each other. Big safety factor too knowing they won't jump out when we pull in for fuel or at a rest stop for a few minutes.

Love how you've catered to your kitties and their needs while you travel. Only suggestion would be to paint their area white and put up clear plexi sheets to allow for high peeing and turn around smears in their bathroom. Easy to remove for cleaning, too. Hi Sarah. Glad this helped. After a year of use and quite a few Clorox wipes later, I'm going to recoat the bottom again. Just a can to make sure the wood is protected.
If you get a covered box with a hole in the top, cats quickly learn to hop up and into and out of the box. When they get out of the box they step on the lid and leave most of the kitty litter on the lid. With a deep covered box they never miss Everything is contained inside the box. Look for Clevercat top entry kitty litter box or make your own with a plastic bin with a hole cut out in the lid.

Hi Steven. Thanks much. I made a couple of small upgrades since the video. I replaced the door with a thick piece of Lexan. Helps seal the area, plus I can visually check the little pan. I also a added a small 12 volt computer fan and vented outside to give a little positive air flow.
I am sooo glad to have discovered your wonderful solution to the litter box dilemma. I may be living in a C-class sooner than later, and this issue was driving me bonkers! I also have two kitties. Kudos to you!

What a compliment! Thanks. I've made a few improvements since. Replaced the door with clear acrylic to check the pan. The new door seals the "kitty on-suite" to stop a draft into the RV living area. Also added a small 12volt computer fan and vented outside. Made a huge difference. Jerry...
