    Worked as a gas jockey in East Leeds as 15 year old. Bremner was managing Hull. He stopped for gas at 8.30 on a wicked winter night. chatting asked me where I live. I told him. He asked how I was getting home after shutting shop at 9PM I told him i was taking the bus. It was snowing. "Sod that " he said. "I'll read the paper and take you home. Which he did. What a soul! Great man!

    sniffer was an amazing goal hunter - left foot right foot balance lethal shot quick composed and surprisingly good header of the ball. i remember he would seem out of game for 75 mins and then strike out of nowhere like a snake. superb

    An assassin, Alan Clarke was calmness personified in the penalty area he never seemed hurried when putting the ball in the net. No wonder they called him sniffer he sniffed out chances from nothing.

    The Sniffer just knew how to find the open space, and simply knew how to put the ball in the back of the net. Today's Leeds could learn a thing or two from watching this!

      ITV broadcast the game. I've only seen the Allan Clarke's goal once (about 20 years ago). I can only think Yorkshire TV wasn't the main broadcaster because they were never included them on their 180 goals VHS compilation.

      According to Clarke himself, it was because Don Revie was keener on keeping him fit for Leeds. This wouldn't wash with Bremner, though; Billy once said to the Don, 'Don't ever stop me playing for my country'. I personally think Sniffer should have got 50 caps!

    Not a single "spectacular" goal (well, OK, the FA Cup header), just 170 odd stuck away from around the six yard box ! Can't think of any striker like that now, probably because it's not as easy as Clarke made it look. Sniffer was an apt name for him.

  • @seltaeb3302
    @seltaeb3302 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Clarke was made for Leeds United & vice versa. Mick Jones is the forgotten Leeds United player. He scored many goals & was just a run & kick merchant but didn't have the persona of the other players. It's a odd thing really & he deserves a plaudit.
