Bad day at the office for my team, but still great to watch - this was a golden era for English football. Great Leeds, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Wolves, Everton, City and United (well until about 1970 anyway) teams, nearly every year there was a different First Division champion, and regular success in Europe too. Proper man's game in those days.

Eddie Gray was a far better player than George Best in his prime. If it weren't for injuries, and the fact that he played for "dirty Leeds", he would be regarded as one of Britain's greatest ever players.
+teehee1604 - Eddie Gray was a wonderful player, definitely as good as Best but he made the mistake of turning up for training, not dating Miss World and stumbling drunkenly out of night clubs and playing on the wrong side of the Pennines. And yes, he suffered from recurrent injuries.
I am a great fan of the Celtic team in that day. They really were fab. However, you have to remember that the Leeds team in that season was literally ground into oblivion with the amount of games they played. I believe there was an 18 day gap between the FA Cup final and the reply against Chelsea. They had small squads in those days. I am not saying that's why Celtic won but please lets think about it
I love Leeds exactly from Boxing Day in 1968. That was a match with Newcastle and I heard this on BBC World Service on shortwaves. I`m from Poland and in 1970 there was 4 teams in European Chamoionship: Leeds Celtic Feyenoord and Legia Warsaw. I was crossing fingers Leeds to draw with Legia but it drew Celtic. Although Leeds lost everything in the end it was most memorable season for me.
Leeds had at the time some good players, that was about the time 72 I supported them. Over the years they always had good players that played for Leeds, but looking back it's so nice to see what the team was like back in those days with passion and flare.
Bobby such a gent and the only man united player bothering his arse on this day.it's no wonder Best got frustrated and started losing interest looking at the players around him with the exception of tony dunne, mcilroy and Bobby there wasn't much quality.great Leeds team at their peak such a joy to watch.

Leeds were sharper, quicker, fitter, more skilful, better in every way and could have won this by 10. The Manchester United players didn't even look fit. Bobby Charlton looked a long way past his sell by date, looking barely non-league standard!
I reckon Bielsa and Guardiola must have watched this match a few times, Leeds played the high pressing game against a brilliant Man Utd side, so much so it looked like Charlton & Best were centre backs. MOT
Around 7 mins 8 seconds, is that Eddie Grey dragging back and going past George Best? So much for the supposed Best nutmeg on Cruyff in 1976. This by Grey, was as good as any nutmeg. All you N. Irish and Manchester United fans, does this make Grey a better player than Best? No, and Best's supposed nutmeg on Cruyff doesn't make Best a better player than Cruyff. 'The day George Best set out to humiliate Johan Cruyff' eh? What about the day Eddie Grey made a buffoon out of George Best!
Mister Cee Except that was Morgan, not Best. Anyway, Cruyff was greater than Best, and players should be judged on overall careers, vision, effectiveness and consistency as well as some dazzling moments
I hear people say Charlton and Hunter were donkey's. Really? Charlton footballer of the year 1967 and Hunter was the first PFA player of the year 1974. To the detractors I say 'up yours.' Put Billy as player of the year 1970 as well and you have to say to yourself. How did this happen if everyone hated them? How did they get so many votes?
The likes of Hunter and Bremner in particular had their reputations dented because of a media vendetta. The media in them days, as they do now, absolutely loved the team in red, and were quite openly biased against any team who took them on. As you can see here, they were truly magnificent footballers. Hard men, yes, but so was everyone in them days! They were certainly no worse than Chelsea or Liverpool at the time!

My first Leeds game was in 1965 when they had just got promoted from the old second division. I stood on the kop, before it had a roof on and saw them play Spurs off the pitch 4-1. They had some great players then Alan Peacock, Bobby Collins, John Charles and Albert Johannsen, a black South African, probably the only coloured professional in league football then. All forgotten now, but they were the forerunners of the great Leeds side seen in this clip, great days, we will never see their like again.

It is now January 2019 and the mighty Leeds are destined for the top division of English football once again! Look out Man U, your worst nightmare and nemesis is about to return!
This was a poor United side that had been in decline for several years. Charlton was in is last season as was Best who by this time spent more time in the bar than the training ground. Law had gone to City and relegation was not for away. Doesn't get away from this being a very fine Leeds team. Pity Wolves beat them in the final game of the season otherwise they would have done the double.
Donald George Revie, OBE (Middlesbrough, 10 de julio de 1927 - Edimburgo, 26 de mayo de 1989), más conocido por Don Revie, fue un futbolista y entrenador inglés.
I was blessed to be a teenager in those days when football wasn't dominated by the team with the biggest cheque book. Ok they signed sniffer Clark for a then record £166,000 but the bulk of the team were brought in just out of school. As a young Scottish Leeds fan I never got the chance to see them at Elland Rd but I was very fortunate to see the many great Scottish Leeds players at Hampden in a Scottish jersey. It's a shame Eddie Gray missed out on many Scottish caps through injury, he was a special talent. Thanks for the memories, Eddie and Frank Gray, Billy Bremner who played 773 times mostly as captain, Peter Lorimer, David Harvey, Joe Jordan, Gordon McQueen, Duncan Mackenzie. Those days are gone, it's all about money, no more loyalty playing for the jersey. Sadly, I've no time for football now, maybe gets played on better surfaces by fitter players who's diet is better, but 69% are not even British getting paid more in a week than the PM gets in a year. Just pathetic. 😢😢
I was a spurs fan then and followed them all over the country. However, never told my fellow spurs fans but i loved watching leeds. Best football ive ever seen. Superb football team
Most interesting thing is how poor George Best was - lost the ball without even trying for the 4th goal. Largely irrelevant. Perhaps an indicator of how is lifestyle did impact his game..?
Ahhh those were the days. I never missed worshipping at the shrine of Bremner, Giles and all the rest in those days and was behind the goal as usual for this match. I'll never see these days again but at least i have many great memories.
I would say Revie's Leeds probably produced their best football in 1972...deserved the Div 1 title as they were easily the best side in the country but as they constantly battled on various fronts and battled with a brutal fixture list (with no sympathy from Lancaster Gate), they never won what they deserved to win

I could watch football like this all day. I struggle with watching these premodonas rolling around on the floor for 5 minutes now.
Derek. I couldn’t agree more with that sentiment. I find myself bored with the Premiership. It’s all about money now. The fans are unimportant to all Clubs now. Football is no longer a working mans sport. Such a shame.
Saw this destruction myself .... I was there as a 12yr old 👍 Super Leeds !
Me to bud ..63 now tho ouch lol
When footballers were footballers
Eddie Gray was a far better player than George Best in his prime. If it weren't for injuries, and the fact that he played for "dirty Leeds", he would be regarded as one of Britain's greatest ever players.
Eddie gray better than best.lay of the crack
teehee1604 George who LOL
teehee1604 hahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah....you are a great comediene
+teehee1604 are you mental?
I am not saying that's why Celtic won but please lets think about it
they were well behind Everton in the league and won nothing
we love you leeds
I love Leeds exactly from Boxing Day in 1968. That was a match with Newcastle and I heard this on BBC World Service on shortwaves. I`m from Poland and in 1970 there was 4 teams in European Chamoionship: Leeds Celtic Feyenoord and Legia Warsaw. I was crossing fingers Leeds to draw with Legia but it drew Celtic. Although Leeds lost everything in the end it was most memorable season for me.
The last champions of England 92
Not really though. You lot were the team that revived Man Utd. Cheers for that. Now you are 53 trophies behind them!
Bye wolfy
John Giles was an awesome player
Got to be the best English team of all time and half them were Scottish.
andrew colley Does not matter where from they were a real team in the true sense of the word.
not half on;y 4, the rest ENGLISH
And John Giles, who is Irish. That being said, they played for the Badge.
Magnificent Leeds team. They battled for every ball, every tackle.
Those were my heroes, forever and a day.
King 👑 Billy one of the best footballer's of All time Our greatest Captain & player my No 1 Leeds United player a Tiger 🐯 on the pitch a leader of men best No 4 ever All Leeds aren't we, marching on together 👏🤍💛💙🤩😍🇮🇨🦚 days of yore 😍
MOT
That wasn't a brilliant M United side, they were on a run of seven defeats in a row.
Anyway, Cruyff was greater than Best, and players should be judged on overall careers, vision, effectiveness and consistency as well as some dazzling moments
right, of course Cruyff was much better than overrated Best
@@mizofan cruyff better than best?? Are you sure? Who told you that?
@@mizofan in fact. I'm adding this, are you kidding like?? No no no no, he Was NOT
8:48 Who was that tallish guy with the dark hair for Leeds shaking hands with the Man Utd No. 4? Was it Joe Jordan?
Paul Madeley, I would say
Not taking anything away from Leeds but that was shocking defending from Man Utd. Virtually every goal was bundled / tapped in from about 6 yards
Pure artistry. There's extended highlights of Leeds masterclass on You Tube.
True. Who did the journalists (FWA) chose as there player of the year in 1974 Ian Callaghan. A far better player.
they were fine defenders, but one match they did play like donkeys was v West Brom; it cost Leeds the 71 league title, despite Sprake playing well
One mistake, and one useless referee cost Leeds the match v West Brom.
@@peterh1353 the players, his opponents ! voted for Hunter ,what's that tell you? I suppose you would say he threatened to bite there legs if they didnt?lol.thats his peers giving him the accolades
As a liverpool fan, I hated Leeds in this era & with good reason, from the mid sixties to the mid seventies they were are biggest rivals. But I loved this time (proper football & atmosphere) & have to admit Leeds had some team
Why was there so much unused pitch behind the goals?
All down to the Don.... he saw the future. And wow, what a legend he created for the generation of fans who adore this club.... the legacy he made...RIP you lost legends, thank you.
All forgotten now, but they were the forerunners of the great Leeds side seen in this clip, great days, we will never see their like again.
how great was that leeds team. even made best look like a mug.
Because Best was sober this day
Best is famous for scoring 5 goals against....4th Division Northampton.
6 goals not 5
great at bribery, corruption and dirty play
You see any dirty play in this game? No you don't, just skill and hard work. No accusations of bribery or corruption were ever proved.
Charlton brothers great players
Best commentator ever, let you watch without non stop tripe just the odd remark
Never seemed like Jones was so very good at the time ...Brilliant !
Real football, real indigenous Britons, real talent, real men.
indigenous Britons, That's the main thing, all this blm shit needs to piss off
E' ufficiale: è morto mio zio Angelo Utili, purtroppo.
When you see the great History Leeds have its so sad to see them in there current predicament, we can only hope that Cellino invests what he can and get Leeds back where they belong in the Premier League MOT :-(
+The doc Jones I'd just started supporting them at about this time in their history. I was seven :-) It's hard to believe what's happened since. Great shame.
Yes its tragic what is happening to Leeds hearbreaking, another defeat today against Birmingham at home leeds need major investment :(
Yes its tragic what is happening to Leeds hearbreaking, another defeat today against Birmingham at home leeds need major investment :(
The doc Jones
I thought Cellini would do that, but it seems not. I hope I get to watch Leeds premiership games again before I drop!! :-)
Leeds will not get anywhere with cellino wont invest people always falling out with him you cant run a club like that im afraid it might get worse before iy=ts get better MOT :(
It is now January 2019 and the mighty Leeds are destined for the top division of English football once again! Look out Man U, your worst nightmare and nemesis is about to return!
still waiting.....
January 2020...looks like it's going pear shaped AGAIN! LOL!
Loved this Leeds team, what legends these guys were back in the day, especially when they stuffed United.
Fantastic football from a great team brings back memories!
Why does the score change from 5-1 to 3-1 then back to 5-1?
Don Review, great Straight Manager.RIP.
When football was real, players played for the jersey and the fans on the terraces were working class.
Simple but better days in so many ways.
Donald George Revie, OBE (Middlesbrough, 10 de julio de 1927 - Edimburgo, 26 de mayo de 1989), más conocido por Don Revie, fue un futbolista y entrenador inglés.
Some very skillful touches by Giles - great balance, both feet.
Are Man Utd fans watching this? LOL!
LEEDS UNITED FOR EVER!!!! I'm a big fan of them i hope i can see them in the premier league again
@5:05, This is not often shown, and is more remarkable than the Southampton performance, Two weeks later ♥
What a pleasure to hear the cultured voice of Barry Davies again, arguably the best ever on the BBC. Sorry, Motty .....
How on earth did Stepney win an England cap?
We are back in Premier League once again.
Look out! Bielsa means business.
I LOVE a good beat-down (when my team is doing the beating).
Thanks for the info.
What a great side Leeds were, let’s hope they can do this to Man Utd again.
That was a magnificent Leeds side but I’m always left wondering if Mick Jones ever scored a clean goal!
in this time leeds utd were different class probably the best team in the world at this time and man utd were in delcline
Man Utd were not in decline...just could not hack it against Super Leeds United.
In the early 70s Ajax were clearly best, but over several years Leeds were extremely consistent.
I would say Revie's Leeds probably produced their best football in 1972...deserved the Div 1 title as they were easily the best side in the country but as they constantly battled on various fronts and battled with a brutal fixture list (with no sympathy from Lancaster Gate), they never won what they deserved to win
man utd WERE in decline at this time, they got relegated in 73/74
That nut meg at 7:17 wasn’t invented until the mid 80’s so I’m not sure what’s going on here? Also my names Mick Jones but I swear I didn’t play for Leeds in the early 70’s or in fact ever!
