We are Portsmouth’s oldest garage which was built in the 1930’s. The garage has served the community and started by making engine parts but it has also been a petrol garage, MOT Station and Reliant main dealer for over 25 years which was also the only Reliant MOT statin in Hampshire. Trojan Cars moved to the site in 2007.
We specialise in classic cars, motorcycles and scooters, primarily 1950’s and 1960’s English and American; and especially classic British ‘Rock & Roll’ cars! Plus, we are always on the lookout for interesting collectibles, especially motoring memorabilia, toys, jukeboxes and other items of interest.

Australian 6 cylinder GM Holden's used the same Power glide transmission, they were a very reliable strong auto, my 1967 Holden Premier with a 186 cu inch (or 3 liter) twin barrel carbed 6 cylinder engine would pull 60 mph in first gear and shifted quickly and smoothly into 2nd if pressed.
283 and 327 Chevrolet V8's used same trans with a differing shape bell housing.
A much better quicker shifting auto than the earlier 3/4 speed Hydromatic in earlier Australian GM sixes.
They would handle quite a bit of power and were often modified for drag racing.
As a kid in NZ my father had a PAX Velox in 1961 and I was fascinated with the linear speedometer that changed colour at certain speeds!

She is a beauty. One of the rare good ones. Either that or the mileage shown is correct. I still prefer the rear styling if the 58 with the tall ellipsoid tail lamps. When I was a kid Ma had a 58 Velox. Rotted into scrap by 1966. How she kept it that long I have no idea. It was a nightmare.

Two speed PowerGlide transmission, Vauxhall used it right through to the Cresta/Viscount PC. Worked okay with a Chevy V8 but not so good on the Cresta

Beautiful, but the transmission sounds like it could turn into a mission.

It's the last face-lift with the small tailights and the straight speedo

    Hydramatic was three-speed.

Yes a good box, the power sucker 'Powerglide' that came after was only 2- speed. VX saw sense and abandoned it late 60s and adopted the popular and dependable 3sp Borg-Warner box.

Looks great, but,why not give us more detailed camera views where it probably matters most like sills, wheelarches, door bottoms, rain channels etc!I know the video would be longer but it would give us the viewer a far more accurate assessment of the car. After all this is what most informed enthusiasts would look for if they came to see it in the metal.

I agree. It’s very irritating when people doing videos don’t know much about the car. Watch him messing around with the gear lever (for the auto box). The engine needs some serious tappet adjustment.
