I have an oblong shaped face and I studied makeup art - I know best how my face looks best, and when other students followed blush rules for my face it looked bad lol. Blush placement indeed is tricky - I found that for me centering the blush to bridge of nose and also boyfriend cheeks works best for natural youthful sunkissed look, and that placing blush by the rules, like shown here, looks weird on my. centering blush on long face makes them look shorter which is great for me :). so like Marlena says - try all the placements, it's fun anyway and see what looks best, also take selfies and compare.
Thank you so much for this video. I went from an oily girl to a dry girl, overnight. Yea, menopause. I feel more confident watching you and thank you so much for that.
When I studied makeup artistry back in the early 2000's cream over powder was the worst mistake someone would suggest!!!! I do believe from my experience with oily skin and vanishing blushes that ''setting'' your cream blush layer with a gentle-pigmented powder blush on top is more fool proof, as long as you are applying all the other great tips from this video.
This was a MASTERCLASS in blush 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽. Amazing video Marlena! This was literally everything I learned about blush in the last twenty years as a makeup artist. I loved it.
After watching this vid I applied my cream blush with the correct brush and correct placement for my face shape and oh wow what a huge difference it made! Thank you for this.
🍎 So true! The apples of our cheeks are NOT in the same place in our 40s as they are in our teens! I turned 50 this summer, and blush placement has most definitely changed, LOL! Getting older is great because the alternative would suck...we simply need to adapt a bit as we go. Makeup is like art for your face. In this sense, the "canvas" is changing. That's all! I think we can handle that...nothing to fear! 🙏💜
Marlena, one situation that can cause a patch is not working the cream products into your hand first and another is using a brush that is too big for your face, a big hug from Chile 🥰
Thanks for mentioning that women with darker skin are still having difficulty finding the right blush shades. I don’t know why in 2024 it’s still an issue.
I've got oily skin in spite of of having mature skin (54 years old), and my favorite way of wearing blush and not having deal with fading is to apply cream or liquid blush over my foundation, spray with setting spray, apply powder and then apply powder blush, and finally spray with more setting spray. My blush (and the rest of my complexion products) lasts all day and all night.
I know a blush hates to see me coming. 😂 the one product I always wear. As someone with deep skin I always have to look out that blushes don't have a white base. Especially when it comes to liquid blush. Which a lot of releases been having lately.
VERY true sadly! I'm not sure why in 2024 brands can't understand how to create beautiful blushes for deep skin. It''s not hard to formulate AT ALL. So frustrating :(
Thanks, Sweetie! I am going to try a little different placement, as I might be bringing it in too far! Love your tips, and I adore you, Marlena, Sherrey🩷🩷🩷
I always apply it more on the apples 🍎, I don't have high cheekbones, so doing the lifting techniques just widens my face (I think I have a pear face shape).
Thank you Marlena. Your such a good teacher. At 62 with normal to dry skin I love baked glowy blushes. I went back to my Laura Geller baked marbled blushes and bought more. Satin colors. I find they are the most flattering especially with powder foundation.
Great tips. I think that (cool) pink blush would have looked great if you blended it carefully. Brings freshness to the face. Even tho the undertone not the same as foundation.
I've tried blending more and it just looks ashy pink when blended more. It just doesn't work for me sadly :( If it had the slightest hint of yellow added, I think it could be more versatile :(
It’s color theory. If you match the undertone you can get a pink look but with other colors. Like how someone who has very deep skin can wear purple blush but it looks like a light pink
Wow. Loved the video! And so true about finding the right blush for your undertone! I got the Kylie Winter Kissed blush, that’s kinda a dupe for the Dior one (the super bubble pink one), so I got it because it looked beautiful on some ladies, but on my fair skin that also has kind of a neutral to warm undertone, it just doesn’t look right. Much better option is my favourite blush at the moment, from IT Cosmetics, BYE BYE PORES BLUSH in the shade Je Ne Sais Quoi. It is perfect! It’s not a coral blush but it’s also not a pink blush, it’s kind of in the middle. Love that one! 😃💖 Thanks again for teaching women useful things. You are makeup TH-cam queen. 👑
New to your channel ❤ Found you by Nikki and I see what I’ve been missing!! Love what your channel and your great experience from all these yrs of being faithful!❤
I want to say thank you! I used a cheap elf angled brush and put the liquid blush on my hand first before picking up the product up with the brush. I loved the way it looked. You're right about not swiping it on the face directly. Thank you!
I discovered you 15 years ago through the French TH-cam channel 'Blog de fille'. Although I wear very little makeup these days, I still find you as radiant with kindness, knowledgeable, and pedagogical as I did 15 years ago. Thank you
I don’t know what’s wrong with me I’m like a shade darker than Marlena- but I have been having the hardest time getting blushes to even just appear on me- I’ve never had this problem before - so far the valentinos have been working like a dream but the price point is steep
@@eleecea same! Not sure your age but as I’ve gotten older I have to wear brighter blushes because I lost the natural pigmentation in my cheeks 😩 So I opt for brighter corals or warm pinks so it shows up
I needed this not just got myself but for others i know who are also over doing it 😅😅 Also I love the Anisa brushes I only got 1 (powder brush) but omg I def need the others & extra of the powder one since it really is so versatile. I was scared it would be too large but I use just the side of it instead of the entire brush & wow it actually applies my makeup nicer. Thanks for all your advice, you've always been a girls girl 🤼♀️ never gatekeeping either.
As a fair cool undertone person I definitely do not agree with your recommendation about light blushes and matching your undertone… for my coloring cool tone blushes literally make me look sick and warm tones make my skin glow and look alive! And bright and “darker” colors give me the “contrast” my pale skin needs… but I’m totally a blush girl so … 😂❤ love your videos though!
I'm also fair and cool-neutral and I look best in dusky shades with cool or neutral undertones. Anything too cool or too warm or too bright would make me look sick because it'll clash with my skin undertone and make me look clownish. You may be a winter type of beauty if dark and saturated colours suit you best.
@@Kayanyen I’m definitely not a warm undertone… I have tried neutral complexion products but they always looked off… peach undertone is off too… I might be a fair olive but that seems to be a newer thing and I don’t know what brands even have those undertones in their products?!…

Hey, Marlena! I feel like a lot of neutral and even some cooler tone blushes pull orangey on me. Im neutral leaning cool, so im assuming that is the reason. Any suggestions on what blush colors to go for and how to combat that color shift? ❤
