    You feel bad about getting one on Christmas morning? Try paying $700 for one at launch! I saved sooo long for that! And I wish they had a Genesis 6-button adapter instead of a SNES one like the Sharp X68000 did. I can't play 6-button fighters with a diamond-button configured pad and two shoulder buttons, it just feels so unnatural. And I think you're supposed to buy TWO of those adapters to use two SNES pads.

      To be fair, if you pay $700 for any item at all on or off launch, that's your own fault. Other than a house and the LEGO Falcon, I can't think of anything worth $700...

      Maybe you should try revisiting the console. Joe on GameSack did, and ended up buying one again.

    Without a doubt for me, the PSP Go for me. If they were going to go digital for the games, at least put ALL the damn games in the store that were available on UMD....they failed to deliver on that.

      lmull3 I resist the urge to spaz on you, because I got it at launch, and honestly felt almost the same way you did. However, the portability, soft mod capabilities, and overall specs of the PSPGO, make it my favorite console ever. I love that thing. I also kind of matured into loving it. I used to cling to physical media as a horder, but then I have grown an appreciation for digital storage, and the problems that it avoids.

      jokatech I have a Go I love it but granted I bought it recently 6 years later at launch I would of probably been annoyed by it. I have always owned Nintendo handhelds so at the time in 2009 I didn't care for PSP I did like the design of the Go but I passed and bought a DSi XL. But I love my Go I bring it with me everywhere I go it's easier then bringing my giant 3DS.

    I've always wanted a 3do, they were neat consoles, but they did have a number of flaws as well. I think the 3d0 company did a good job with some of the stuff, but weren't forward thinking enough at the same time.
    Some of the advantages were that the hardware specs could be licensed to various manufacturers, this helped drive down the system's costs quickly (though only Panasonic and Goldstar made them, and also Sanyo in Japan) since they could compete on that front. I think they were about $250 by the time PS1 came out if I remember right. Also the controller port thing, allowed you potentially up to 8 controllers, so no need of purchasing multitaps. Finally dev kit costs and publisher costs were very low, so this allowed small companies at the time like Crystal Dynamics to break into the scene to develop games, a company many of you have heard of that might not have existed without the 3d0.
    On the other hand, there is the lack of quality control due to the looser way 3d0 handled publishers. The cases though cool with their size were very flimsy. The controller could have been better, it was a weird mix between the snes and Genesis (though was still a LOT better than the other competitors out there before Playstation). 3d0 also didn't seem to get properly tapped into the system capabilities, it clearly was a capable console as a number of early Saturn and Ps1 games were ports of 3d0 games, but it seemed most companies were content with just releasing fmv games or games that essentially could be released on the snes.

  • @ClaerisGames
    @ClaerisGames 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Dreamcast!! lol no, I loved my dreamcast. I was an easy to please kid when it came to gaming and I was totally content having a 'dead' console by the time I got mine (got a TON of clearance games on the cheap lol), so flash forward a few years to 2005 and I had everything I wanted. I was absolutely content with my game collection so when other ideas of christmas gifts didn't come up, I finally was just like "well my friend's got an xbox and I'd like to play the conker remake I suppose, but is that really worth you guys buying me a console for just one game? That's expensive." But that's what happened, with Conker joined by Halo 2 since it was the talk of the town. I got a few hours into Halo 2 and didn't care for it and I was immediately disappointed by Conker's new censorship, so my enthusiasm was killed. That and I *really* hated the controller. The 360 was out by then so it was the better model of the two original xbox controllers, but it was still annoyingly big and bulky and hard to hold for me. I did not like the feel of it whatsoever. By the time I'd sold it two years later, I had a collection of about five games and the only one I beat was Conker. I just didn't care. I had a gamecube and got way more enjoyment from that library.

      Paul Smith Gotta agree with this. Funny enough, today, it's my most played console, and I own everything. But it had a really shit start.
      Xbox One is better than that but I'm not in love with that either. A bit disappointed, to be honest, with the exclusives. KI isn't really for me(although it's good, not my kind of match flow), DR3 is my least favorite in the series, Sunset Overdrive is good but just good, Halo is removing the reason I play halo(local multi), etc. I don't regret it but I do feel disappointed.

    • @Dacho_Shaki
      @Dacho_Shaki 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Smith Yeah I get where you're coming from. I didn't get mine till MGS4 came out so I had to wait at least two years to buy on. I enjoyed MGS4 since I' a fan of the series although still flawed. Maybe I wouldn't even get one and I would probably stick with Xbox 360 if it weren't for exclusives like Uncharted, Ni No Kuni, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Graces f, Valkyrie Chronicles, Heavy Rain, God of War 3 and whatnot. Xbox 360 hands down has better multiplats and doesn't have a pointless gimmick like sixaxis, I hated that shit. Sure there were some better versions on PS3 like Eternal Sonata and Star Ocean 4 but most western games were superior on Xbox 360 because of it's easy to use specs. Although it's still impressive that they still haven't uncovered the full potential of PS3 capability.

    I had the same reaction when I got the Atari Jaguar. It was totally unexpected, and by far the most expensive gift my parents ever got me. I was so hyped. We found it while on vacation in Portland, which was a miracle because of short supply when it was released. I got it home and started playing Cybermorph and my enthusiasm quickly plummeted. It sat in my room for the rest of my childhood, disconnected, next to my SNES and Genesis which were being played daily.

    For me, it's the Wii. I got it for my birthday just after the release. I came from an amazing time with the gameboys and Gamecube. Both really got me with awesome games like Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart DD and solid platformers on the go.
    But the Wii. Well, the Wii had Mario Galaxy. It was okay, but nothing I was used to. And Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Fun at the time but it never really got me. I never got Super Smash Bros Brawl or Mario Kart Wii from store. I got them way way later second hand from the flea market, because my Wii just wasn't used a lot. Sadly.

    • @3dmarth
      @3dmarth 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn't help that it had a lot of mediocre ports (GameCube titles with motion controls shoehorned in, lazy carbon copies of PS2 games, and occasional dumbed-down versions of PS360 hits), and even some of the flagship titles were relatively weak. Sure, Skyward Sword and Smash Bros. Brawl are good games, but they aren't topping too many people's favourites lists!
      I still haven't gotten around to experiencing some of the later gems, though, like Xenoblade Chronicles. Maybe that would change things.

    For me it was the Game Gear.
    I was getting into retro collecting at the time and enjoyed the gameboy, and thought it be fun to see what segas answer was like. I knew of some of the issues like battery life but it didn't stop me from picking it up.
    But the games i got for it were pretty weak, most of them being licensed games. I didn't find new games in the wild that often like i did with gameboy. The main game i had was Sonic 2 which I'd played before on the Gems collection, but i must've forgotten how hard it was.
    And the real killer for me was my screen brightened over time so i couldn't see anything. And although there were mods to fix it i didn't have the passion toward the console.

      PSP had more going for it, unfortunately Sony just dropped the Vita like a stone & as they did with all their other peripherals. They never back them up long term. Just like Guitar Hero, PS Move, Eyetoy and I've a feeling they will do the same with the VR.

    I remember getting a hand me down Saturn that was my brothers for Xmas one year when I wanted a PlayStation. Was pretty disappointed but that Xmas me and my cousin had the best time playing marvel super heroes I think it was called. A fighting game that was just a blast. I'm sure you've played the game before. I just thought it was so cool how different each character's move set was. Made each hero really unique. Deep combos and such. Was really fun trying to figure each character out. Great game, and great Xmas gift.

    For me it would be the amiga cd32.Mind you,i did not get the system at launch.
    But a couple of years ago,i was into finding and trying out as many systems as i could find and that got me interested.
    When i finally got one,it did not really got me excited as much as i had hoped it would.
    Games are mostly mediocare and simple ports of the amiga home computers and some didn't even run quite right.
    I still own it,but i hardly use it.

    My least favorite console is probably the Xbone. A lot went wrong at launch, and Microsoft is still trying to salvage it by throwing absurd amounts of money at the damn thing, with very little avail. There are some nice exclusives for it though, like Rare Replay and Sunset Overdrive, and there may be a lot more to come in the following year or two...

      Azurephoenix13x I remember them wanting to do away with psychical games, having to be online at all times with the camera on at all times, and they were wanting to charge you extra for having more than 4 people in the room playing the same game. I feel ever since Microsoft first launched there console, gaming has suffered ever since, especially with the 360, endless amounts of DLC, microtransactions and broken games released out the door, to hell with American console's and their business models.

    • @Azurephoenix13x
      @Azurephoenix13x 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** To be fair, they did a lot of things right with the original Xbox, and the 360 didn't really become maligned with horrid business practices up until the later part of 2009, and it only worsened when Don Mattrick entered the fray...

      ChiTown Mex It was rumoured that the camera may well have to be on at all times only because it was mentioned first by Microsoft but Sony never brought it up at any conference's and the camera never shipped with the console on release. Not once did Sony mention about charging the owner of the console extra for having a certain amount of friends over to play a game in the same room.

Just because they didn't mention it in their conference doesn't mean they weren't planning on it. You can look up the information, either way it was better for the gamers they changed those stupid rules because I wouldn't have bought X1 and PS4..

    PS4. It's the only console I own than don't have over 100 hours used. I still don't have any games worth playing on it. I can't use it as a set-top box until something comes out. It can't play Playstation one or two games. It's limited to only two USB ports. Because one is *always* used as an mp3 slot (the only way to play my own music is via USB drive) I can't charge more than one controller while playing.
    The only reason I haven't sold it is because I'm still hoping that my opinion eventually change on this console.

    For me the Wii U. I thought it was gonna be great for me cus I did like the tablet idea, and I enjoyed Zomi U, Ninja Gaiden 3, Assassins Creed 3 and Black ops 2, but over time I just stopped playing. Smash came out and my bros and I played a lot but then we stopped. Now, it's just sitting there and tbh I wanna trade it in.
    I have high hopes for NX because Nintnedo is changing their business to something more consumer friendly, and I think they'll fix the boringness of the Wii U. I hope that touch controller is a reality, but I hope it's done in a playable way, so it doesn't feel like a burden to play on it

      +LovelyProductions dont get your hopes too high though, look at the trend, newer consoles always get less and few titles than the previous ps1 ps2 ps3 ps4 same with the wii and wii u and NOW they are working on a new one? i mean....shouldnt they like start releasing and promoting new games that can stress that hardware to the maximum before releasing a new console?

    • @TheT3rr0rMask
      @TheT3rr0rMask 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ElBribri That's true. PC tech is progressing so fast that a new console is outdated in the span on months.
      I feel like it's the games and social features that sell systems. Ps4 is treating itself like a great and fun game system rather than an impressive one(Wii u tries to sell itself with the tablet, Xbox one originally did that with Kinect, changed after). For gamers, PC has so much to offer plus you get so much customizability and software choices.

      Wii U + 3DS is way better than the Switch/NX. Wii U is highly underrated, what with Mario games, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. On the Wii U was also Mass Effect, Minecraft, Need for Speed, Project Zero, Sniper Elite, Resident Evil, Tekken, Walking Dead, Bayonetta 2, Darksiders 2, Steamworld, Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, Batman: Arkham Origins, old Zelda HD games, and much more. And it plays every Wii game, plus it has many accessories.

    To me, it will always be the PS Vita. Not for nothing though. It did have a legacy to live up to. I for one absolutely loved the PSP. It's game library was a bit more scarce for releases compared to it's competition, but it certainly wasn't mal-nourished. It boasted alot of quality games, it's RPG and retro compilation catalog especially was magnificent and having a PS1 on the go was that perfect icing on the cake. In the 7 years I held that son of a bitch, it's the only piece of gaming equipment that I have broken from usage (Well, barring a few unfortunate accidents, the thing's buttons really did start to wear out).
    So for 3 years, I held tight on the Vita, hoping it'd succeed my deceased PSP as I kept preaching how things were gonna get better and saying "Oh! Tearaway is gonna be that turning point". However, deep inside, I always knew I was dissapointed in it. I played my share with it. Gravity rush, Katamari, Blaz blue, when I wasn't using it as a glorified portable PS1, I experimented with some games I never had interest in regularly (The natural effect of being cornered with no games to play). In all my years of gaming, that was the 1 console that I consiously sold away, because I was just not getting my kicks off of it. My sister had the 3DS and back when I innitially got the Vita, it seemed like we were on even ground, but as the 3DS skyrocketed to new heights, the Vita took too long to grab me and the one thing that would ever make me consider buying another one (Tales of Innocence R) is an japan-only RPG and we all know how fun those are to play as a non japanese-speaker.

      My PSP's battery lasts about as long as batteries on a Game Gear/Nomad these days from all the use it had. Webbrowing, PS1 games and PSP games. For a few years I was glued to that thing. In fact I hope that 5, 10, 15 years from now some one invents a way to play PSP games on a TV so my collection doesn't go to waste.
      I too tried to force myself to finish Gravity Rush. It's a neat concept and it has an art director from Team Silent IIRC but it was just too boringly designed.
      Atleast we should still get some niche JRPGs on the thing.

      AlluMan96 I am not disappointed in the Vita itself, but I am disappointed in how Sony has handled the Vita. It's the sames as the Wii U. Great games fun to play but so little advertisement no one knows it exist. You know I talk about the Wii U and Vita all the time and most people ask me what they are. Man Sony and Nintendo have royally screwed up on very good consoles. Sony needed to make sure people knew that the Vita was the successor to the PSP, and Nintendo needed to do the same thing with the Wii U as well. Neither one did their jobs in that aspect and neither console is selling that well at all. I mean come on the Vita has been around since 2011 and I have not seen any advertisement for the system or the games since 2012. Same goes for the Wii U. I will continue loving my Vita, but I will also continue being disappointed in Sony for not advertising and only selling 5 million units since launch.

      I've always been an advocate of the Mega CD. While I believe that they should've focused a bit more on making a splash with the Saturn instead of saturating the Mega drive with extra shit, the selection the Mega CD has is quite good. The Lunar games, Terminator, Sonic CD, Spider-man, Bari arm, Shining force CD, the double feature Another world/Heart of the Alien combo, Snatcher, a decent port of Dragon's lair (As decent as those FMV graphics can allow), Silpheed, you gotta dig and I can imagine back in the day that "gotta dig for the gold" mentality was a bit alienating with the saturation of FMV crap dumped into the thing, but as far as pre-PS1 CD gaming tech goes, it's propably the best bet to go with. That and the NeoGeo CD, but Mega CD is alot cheaper.

      Smash4 > Brawl to be honest, save for the absence of Snake, which I mained in Brawl. But I'll agree Melee is the best so far. In certain aspects anyway. When it comes to variety Smash4 is certainly the superior over the rest. As for Mario, you say "or even 64" like its inferior to Galaxy or Sunshine lol.
      Anyway, that can't be said about every game. Xenoblade Chronicles X is definitely better than the original. In fact it's close to my favorite 2015 title. The xbone has been by far the most disappointing purchase I ever made, I got it mainly to play with my friends who all are big microsoft fanboys and I liked halo and forza well enough so I thought I might as well get it. I figured it wouldn't be too much different from the 360 and previous xbox and while those weren't my favorite consoles I did enjoy a few games on them, turns out I was horribly wrong. I got the thing and it was huge, took up so much space. I got everything set up with little effort and got xbox live gold... hurray. Then I went to play Titanfall with some of my friends, it was like playing LoL but in first person and I had to pay for it. So that wasn't a hit for me but I still had forza 5 and I loved forza 4, was I in for a disappointment. The game had barely any cars I wanted to drive, less tracks, and all it seemed to really care about was how everything looked. Basically everything I loved about forza 4 was gone. I sold my xbone not even owned it for 3 months and got a vita. The vita is so much better.

    • @kinggoten
      @kinggoten 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BakaPope Now I don't own a Xbone but sounds like you were one of the people who jumped on board early which was a mistake and well expecting Forza 5 to have more then 4 well you would in theory but because of the new graphics engine etc really wouldn't be possible for it to include everything 4 had because it all has to be remade so getting it for that was a mistake(forza 6 is probs really good however) same goes for other launch games.
      If you picked up a xbone now with more options in terms of games you would possibly enjoy it more but really this generation of consoles is really lacking

If I bought one it would only be because of my friends and I'm not going to waste another 300 dollars for a glorified teamspeak.

    I got a 3do for Christmas and had the opposite reaction tbh. I got Fifa soccer, samurai shodown & need for speed. I then got road rash & night trap days later. I absolutely loved it!
    I still have my 3do and those very games and I still have fun with them all. The 3do has 10-15 games that are amazing but unfortunately that's it.
    Worst for me was the wii I suppose.

    PS4. I don't hate it, but when I first got it, it was such a disappointment. I blew 500$ on the thing(because Canada sucks) and it just sat there in the living room. For a year, collecting dust.
    More games have started to come out for it and I now enjoy my PS4, but that first year with the device was... Not a good year. I had buyers remorse.
    Outside of that, I'd say the N64. When I got my N64, there was no game stores around, so getting a game was rare.
    I rented two games for the N64 before I lost interest in it. Majora's Mask(as a kid, and the internet not being a thing in our house until the GameCube, I didn't know what an Expansion pack was, so I couldn't play it)
    And ...
    Superman 64.

Also a shout out to xbox 360 controllers for being so shit durability wise in my 7 years of owning the Xbox 360 phat Elite (Which works wonderfully btw) I've gone through I believe 8 or 9 controllers and 12 of those shitty chat headsets and 2 actual gaming headsets.

    When you started talking bout the console you hate, the first thing came to my mind was 3DO. I owned the console although mine was not Panasonic but Sanyo's. I think I didn't buy many games. I remember having Alone in the dark, D, Hard Driving, Pebble Beach no hatou (golf game) and some mystery adventure game that I cannot remember the title. The life span of 3DO was pretty short in me although I think I paid about $300 to get it. But, I didn't hate it. I enjoyed it. It was my first next-gen console. I still feel some strange attachment to it. Maybe I still don't want to admit that I picked a wrong one :P

    Nope, I never got a console that I regret having later. I even like my Wii U! So suck it, haters! lol
    i never got the 3D0 because one, it was way expensive for the time at $700 USD and not a whole lot of games on it excited me. Although I sort of wanted it to have SSFIIT in home but...eh.
    Although I do have the 32X add-on. But honestly, even the worst consoles could have their moments and the 32X had a couple fun games for it. But yeah, Maybe I could've asked for a Playstation that Christmas instead but oh well.
    Overall, I always did my research and made sure my money(or my parents money) went into a console that will give me many hours of good times.

      @Sparkykelly1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You need to take off those rose tinted glasses, haha. The N64 has dated badly. I don't play emulators I use the real consoles and real games and I feel the awful controller really let this system down. I believe Nintendo learned by their mistake and improved the layout with the Gamecube controller. I love retro games but I just feel the 3D on the N64 just didn't stand the test of time which is why I prefer the SNES and Megadrive as they both aged better.

    The worst thing about the 3DO is the headphone jack. It isn't grounded at all, and subject to static discharge. If you accidentally send a spark into that jack, it fries your console (I had this happen with my Goldstar, but it didn't happen to the Panasonic FZ-1 I exchanged it for).
    There were another couple of good games, first and foremost being Wing Commander III, followed by Gex, IMO.

    I hated my PS2 for about 2.5 years after importing it from Japan on day one. Most of the early games had a horrid interlacing graphics technique which looked ugly and gave me headaches from the shimmering graphics, and aside from GTA, Ico, Fantavision and SSX, there wasn't much in the way of truly excellent games to play on it. That, and the poor manufacturing quality of the DVD lens meant I had to return my unit 5 times before I got one that would last more than a few months.
    Of course, in time it got better (from 2003 onwards, with 2004 being undoubtedly the finest year for PS2 releases ever), but by then I already owned a GameCube and Xbox (original) and the PS simply paled in comparison to the GC and the sheer power and online capabilities of the Xbox.
    PS2 for me is much like the Wii. It's good to own for the exclusives and the little curio games, but if you have the chance to play a multi format game elsewhere, steer clear of the PS2 version!

    • @user-yi5mt2df5q
      @user-yi5mt2df5q 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never owned a ps2 until a few years ago because I went with the Xbox and Gamecube. I personally prefer the PS2 because of it's sheer quantity and quality in its library. It has great JRPGs, such as:
      Persona 3-4 and the FF's
      It also had great hack n' slashers such as:
      God of war and DMC
      It had a multitude of great 3rd person games and overall, it was the go to system for me. Especially for Persona 4, which is a magnificent game but I would recommend the psv version of it more.

      Wow, are you joking? I was in the same situation at launch, there were no games that caught my sight until i started getting into JRPG's and visual novels. The vita had a lot of great JRPG's, obviously. Persona 4 was that one game that made me keep it so I could get more games, I loved Persona 4 and it will always be one of my favourite games of all time. So excited for 5.

      I was late to the party with PS2 as I owned the Dreamcast at the time and secretly hoped that Sega could keep going with the DC. Unfortunately games became far too hard to get in my area for the DC after a while (and this got even worse after Sega dropped the DC altogether) and I was forced into then moving on to the PS2.
      I do love my PS2. I still own it and it still works like new. But I have much more fondness and more fond memories of the Dreamcast than I do the PS2. The Dreamcast moved me into the 128 bit era and it blew me away every time I turned it on. By the time I moved onto PS2, that "wow look at that" phase had worn off somewhat. PS2 games still looked great, don't get me wrong. But whereas most people jumped from PS1 to PS2, I had jumped from PS1 to Dreamcast and that did nullify the impact that PS2 had on me somewhat.

      I have always had perfectly working PS2s and played lots of CDs on them. Also, there are countless great PS2 games. Other than the ones you mentioned, such as GTA 3, 4, 5, and SSX Tricky, etc., you have about 50 great games for the PS2 out of the 3,800 game library, say. Also, note that I think the GC is more powerful than both the PS2 and Xbox, at least in some regards, but still, yes, the Xbox was strong. Although, the PS2 sold 100 million units from 2000 to 2004, so, clearly, it was not time to just move on from it. I played the PS2 from around 2005 to 2019. Never stopping. Went from PS1 to PS2 and the PS2 is just unstoppable. Timeless 3D machine.
