If you like your hockey with a helping of bombs, monsters, and dismembered bits on the side, Mutant League Hockey is a thoroughly awesome way to take out some aggression.
Perhaps you may not know about the NHL, but the teams and some of their stars are parodies for the actual teams at the time. So if some of them look familiar to people, now you know.
Michael Mendheim, the creator also made the concept for Sunsoft's Superman on the Genesis for which he said that they messed up (IIRC, his vision was something akin to OG God of War i.e. the player always feels like the most powerful superhero in the universe)
They actually used comical team and player names, but NHL teams and players are in the game. The Pukes are the Penguins. 66 - Lepuke, 10 Fran Cyst, 92 Sprocket, are all humorized real player names.
One of my favorite games of all times. Always played it with my cousin - he would always attack the goalie with a chainsaw and I would score the goals :D Also I remember, how we once somehow turned the goal into a giant mutant head and when I scored a goal, it exploded :D
For anyone unaware, this game has a chance of getting a remaster. When Mutant Football League (that game is a remaster, by the way, and even includes bribing and killing the ref) makes enough money, I'm certain that the mutants will now take to another sport rather than just football. I wonder, though...Is the skeleton that drops the puck during a face-off Grim Blitzrow?
Going back on this, it's likely _confirmed_ to be happening; but not until *Mutant Football League 2* finishes. And since we never got a basketball game (as teased here), I'm pulling for "Mutant Basketball Association" at one point...
As someone who typically does NOT like sports games, I gotta say that I do love the Mutant League games. So over the top and goofy. Can't hate on that at all.
The challenges I mostly set for myself are trying to win the playoffs with the Shrimps or Weenies, or try to get a three-skull/star team through the two out of three playoffs. Both set on Annihilation difficulty.
They did confirm a potential mutant league hockey 2 remake but not till mutant football league 2 is officially released it's expected to be released this year or 2025 for mutant league hockey 2 remake maybe well see it in late to early 2025 or 2026
Such a fun game! If I remember correctly one of the players is named "Undertaker", and my twin brother and I always tried to put the spotlight on him (since we were big WWF fans). 😂
This was one of the top 3 most memorable and fun sega games for me. It was all about the violence. I remember that u could incapacitate the goalie. I always liked the robots w the laser helmet on the wheel the most. When people play this back on YT they aren't good at using the violence to capture the game's fun, and often rate it badly. I played every nhl game on sega so this was a refreshing take on hockey which captured my youthful imagination.
Thanks for playing the game. I bought it on release month for the Genesis, eager to play a serious game of NHL 93/94 but with monsters. Awesome concept, but the controls suffered in comparison. The fights were nicely done though.
"Raaghhuu! Raaghhuu! ruggararahghaga raaghuu!"

Also mutant league football HAD a cartoon series.
Thank you for doing this game, the memories of my childhood 😊👍

I miss the part where the 2 guys go into the penalty box; one goes for a minute for fighting, the other 3 minutes for fighting and losing. Lol
That’s because this clown turned OFF the penalties!
As it should be...
That intro song is unforgettable. It brings back so many memories as a kid

i remember playing this and the football one with my cousin
*Mighty Weenies* - totally using that name for my potential garage rock band.
turning every sport into bloodsports was a really fun part of the 90s, wish these would come back in some way
Protect the man with the chainsaw at all costs!
The fights were my favorite parts to play
Best game ever back in the day
Daam i hope they make a new one soon. Relly sucks that whe only have EA nhl for hockey 😢.
Ahhhhhh that theme intro is 😎classic
Def my fav game!

Can’t wait to see the new version of this come out they did hint at it was coming
I loved this game!!!

I really hope they do. It makes playing hockey brutal and fun.

Yes the skeleton that drops the puck is grim blitzrow
Bones Jackson
I remember the mutant football league but I didn't know there was a hockey. I missed this one.

I rarely ever was able to finish a game. I just remember murdering all the players on the team and they'd have to forfeit.
I renember renting this 🤘
What we all wish real hockey was like.
Not sure about the realism of this game. There were a couple blatant offsides that weren't called.
This game is savage what a good game, you can win buy forfeit 😂
I gotta get me some Mutant League Hockey.
BOOM BOOM CRASH
BOOM BOOM CRASH
Did you do mutant league football
If I enjoyed one thing about this game, it was killing the ref and the goalie on several moments. Ugh, I wish they bring this back and update it.
Ice Hockey has never been so awesome!!
...But equally violent. XD
Oh yeah. Best part: Kill the goalie or ref when possible.
I forgot this existed
Is this using an HDMI converter?
spoopy league hockey
Why hasn't this been remade yet 😢

@melaniehenson6583 I sure hope so

i remember this being a lot bloodier, maybe I'm thinking of a different game
The Genesis sound chip was perfect for horrorifying and gore filled settings. "It was so bad."
👍👍👍👍👍
Bet you've never played Mario kart
papyrus?!
This looks so choppy
Not much different than the NHL.
These games are overrated as hell😅😂l
Next time, be a man and do not turn off the penalties!
