One thing I never noticed until recently is that the 3 recurring robots in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog weren't just randomly placed in this game. If you'll notice, Coconuts is the last of the "easy" opponents before the music speeds up, Grounder is the last of the "medium" opponents before the music changes, and Scratch is the last of the "hard" opponents before you take on Robotnik. So they're like the commanders of 3 different groups that Robotnik sent to stop you. It's never outright stated, but I think that was what they were going for.
The manual states that when groups of four beans are grouped together, they escape. But it also states that they are sent off to the machine. So how can we be sure that they escaped?
I think when you unite 4 they join you and you can do whatever you'd like with them, release being the player's action and transformed into robots being the robot's action.
I remember a good college friend of mine discovered that we played this as kids and had to bust out the old Genesis for the nostalgia revisit. Thought we were the only kids in the world that played this title. lol Never had beat the game up until that time either.

It was reskinned in America. So they tied it in to an American cartoon. And most likely, Yuji Naka would only allow it if it didn't tie in to the games Sonic canon. Same thing with Sega of America making Sonic Spinball.
Fuck this game was so incredible, I used to play this with my Parents like it was going out of style, they got so damn competitive too hahaha. Classic as fuck
"Witness my evil dream to rid Mobius of music and fun forever." That Sonic song which drove Robotnik mad in one episode was probably still relevant at that time.
I wanna be better at this. But never play it enough because I couldn’t get behind it. I just love the presentation, and themed around The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog. I love the personalities of the robots, and learned most of them were only in the first episode of the show. Interesting how they particularly shine or flesh out more here after only debuting in one episode outside of the main three robots. I love the dialogs, and there expressions in battle. And even how they change difficulty gameplay up a little to reflect the intensity of the characters. When I saw the cover back in the day, I initially thought or hoped it was an action game. Good run of this game.

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine needs an online play remake where the bean people from Beanville and refugee beans actually look like their cutscene counterparts instead of recycled Puyo Puyo character-related sprites. I can say the same things about Has Bean and Big Bean.
Yep, it's obviously Puyo Puyo, just like Kirby's Avalanche/Ghost Trap, but still fun nonetheless! ^^ The wacky robots really make this one. And the aesthetics of The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, of course! And it shouldn't take a skilled Puyo Puyo player long before Dr. Robotnik catches them snoo pingas usual! XD It's a classic.
