Funny I just found out that the 83rd has liberated my home town Grevenbroich in Germany and a friend of mine has convinced our mayor to build a monument for the 83rd

Also known as the 83rd Panzer Grenadier division because of all of the German equipment and vehicles they were using. They transformed themselves into mechanized infantry. Using captured equipment. My Uncle was there. Carrol McDonough 331st RCT.

My father, Frank Ferraro, was in the 83rd. He was the S-2, 308th Med Bn. He told me many stories of his experiences. He never considered himself a hero. He always said, “the hero’s were the one the didn’t come home”.

It must be an eye opener to actually see your Dad so young, and being a soldier! I would get copies of those films to review at special times.

My uncle was in the 331sr RCT . He badgered my Grandmother to lie about his age. He went in at16. He was wounded , won a Bronze Star and was preparing to go to the Pacific when the Bomb dropped. He was mad they let the Russians take Berlin. I heard it from my mom and him. God Bless your Father. Guys like him saved the World.

Its hard to realize the size of the war. So many battles going on at the same time. I've been binge listening to soldiers storys for a week and am still in awe of what happened.
