I was a Marine in Vietnam for 20 months--(26th BLT & 1st Marine Div) my opinion, the soldiers, marines, seabees, air wing, navy, 'All' branches of the fighting men & support personnel as well as all of the Allies during WWII were "The Greatest Generation". Salute to "All" military persons past & present & those who have & do support them.
Fantastic to see how much film the americans (Army Pictorial Service) took during the whole war. Most of their operations are filmed. Even a chest-camera on a parachuter! Very modern and ahead of its time!
Great stuff. So sad these guys gave so much and we are acting like w bunch of self righteous,entitled,lazy,selfish terrorists. Such a sad time for our country. These men knew hard work and respect and pulling together to help your neighbor. I believe it was America’s greatest generation 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 America forever.
Made it easily serviceable compared to the German Wehrmacht panzers. Even thought we able to get parts for our vehicles, the German people still seemed to get parts , but not enough to keep them in the fight down the road.

What they didn't show was the hosing out of blood and other human remains from those tanks. I knew men, when I was a kid, who were attached to recovery units. Gruesome.
My dad was a Sgt. USAAC stationed at Waycross Georgia. He told us that in 1944 late summer early fall all stateside military personnel south of the Mason-Dixon line had to turn in there winter overcoats etc for the troops in the ETO

Band of Brothers not just in the show. They talk about it in the interview part as well. There are stories from the 3rd Armored Division about it as well.

I was taking stock of information previously unknown to me (US soldiers caught fighting in the winter of 1944 without coldweather gear) and comparing the US Army's lack of preparation for winter warfare with the wehrmacht's identical situation in Russia in 1941. I find it interesting that the US Army would fail to supply winter clothing for it's soldiers in 1944 when they had 2 years time to anticipate the situation and no excuse for failing to prepare for winter warfare. The Germans, on the other hand, were in a much different situation. They could not begin large-scale prepararion and production of cold weather uniforms without alerting Stalin to their impending pre-emptive invasion of the USSR. As the story goes, in 1941 Stalin refused to listen to his many spies that repeatedly warned him of an imminent German invasion. Instead he watched the market price of mutton and wool knowing prices would be drastically affected if the German Army began to equip its soldiers for the extreme cold of Russia's weather. Because Germany did not prepare and market prices were unaffected Stalin left his forces as vulnerable as possible allowing Germany to achieve the smashing success they did during the initial stages of operstion Barabarossa. Its interesting, thats all.
Extra boots and rubber overboots would have been nice. Army loves to find the only mud puddle within miles, then make you walk through it! Dry feet in winter is very important and a dry pair while your others dry out keep the Army moving.

The description of Peleliu making it sound like some sort of cake walk, plus that nonsense about why it was invaded in the first place (something about a great landing field) puts this entire series in question, because it's obvious they weren't about to let truth get in the way of their sunny optimism.

That's how the quartermaster reported to the higher office. I got a 36 chest coat and I was never a 36 but had to try to ware it anyway until I found someone that had a 40 and they needed a 36!

The ability of the allies to have ample spare parts, gasoline, and quick repair and supply lines made the Sherman a better tank than any Panzer.

Pelieu should have been bypassed. After the shift from nding on Mindenau to Leyte Gulf, the taking of this Island was unnecessary.
