9:20 - 9:30 sorry but they already know that it will work since Zelda did it first.... you cant give ubisoft the credit for "Tyring something new" when Zelda paved the way for them! They are just trying to improve on what was already succesful nothing wrong with that even appreciate it since zelda has some things i wish i could change.
While I get that it seems like that, thats really an oversimplification. Just because a game is open world with a lighter tone does not mean its a Zelda clone.
@@peterdelisle7083 oh come on!^^ they copied everything! even the freaking magnesis!^^ and yeah they improved on it! can smack foes with rocks that you caught from them! I love the fact that my weapons don't break after 3 hits! :P . I just bought this off Steam, Winter Sale, but I gotta say, it's a gem so far. It's obviously a Zelda clone, but it does have something Zelda doesnt have, which is good humor. Not over the top, but it's a fun experience. Bought it on PC, that's maybe not the best option due to controls, might set it up different, since some things like using ALT are a bit annoying.
One of my favorite Ubisoft games ever and I'm not even a fan of Ubisoft anymore, but the gliding in this game is undoubtedly the best I've ever seen. So friggin smooth and beautiful. I've been playing quite alot of Genshin Impact recently and I can't help but be disappointed in how many open world games lazily add "flying" (which is actually just gliding) just to seem like they have more content or something. Barely any work for a game mechanic so highly praised in videogames nowadays.
That's what happened when you give Ubisoft Quebec creative freedom. They have lots of idea, but of course they are limited to the management and the IP itself aka Assassin's Creed. They have always the one that started some new things, although that new thing isn't necessarily good, but it is polished for the next game, by another studio. Too bad the game they are working with Mike Laidlaw is rejected for no good reason and he's out of the studio. We could've potentially get a great new IP RPG.
I feel like you're trying really hard to stay in Ubisoft's good side for future events and getting review copies by just praising Ubisoft for everything they do now and repeat the whole "wow they're really turning around" narrative for everyone of these videos. Along with the fact that it took you almost 8 minutes to get to the topic and actually talk about the game.
I started playing AC Odyssey some time ago and I'm now about 50h in. One of the biggest problems of this game is asset reusing. There just isn't enough content in the game to avoid that the locations and people become monotonous and unrecognisable. I really hope Ubisoft scales back their ambition and makes a smaller better open world this time. They just have to accept that they don't have the manpower and time to make worlds of a scope that Rockstar can. AC Odyssey came out in 2018, so they project probably only got 2 years of full scale development. That doesn't make me very hopeful.
Love your videos Luke. On point as always. Not sure if I speak for most of your fans or not, but personally I could do without the music. Your points are captivating enough and it felt a bit distracting
A monetized clone of a popular game? Wow, Ubisoft have really outdone themselves. When you say "last decade" you do realize you include Black flag, R6S, and Far Cry 3? Yes, the world design is good, but the rest (from what I see) is nothing special, if it is a single box-no caveat (DLC, MTX etc)- game I can see it being an 8/10, knowing Ubisoft it's probably 5 before its even released. Look at Fallen Order for example, it might not do really anything new, but how it is all contained and simplified by Respawn turned a possibly mediocre game to a very fun one, that is how you do a game comprised of concepts and mechanics that aren't exactly original, traversing your way Uncharted style through a dark environment with only your lightsaber as a source of light is awesome. Ubisoft's way of taking inspiration from a game however comprises of "Clone the whole fucking game but don't spend any effort to make it actually as good" and also "Find a way to monetize the clone game"
It's like they took Breath of the Wild, sucked its soul out, added 'optional' micro-transactions and a permanent lingering sense of the presence of the development studio and voila...
There’s nothing wrong with being positive about games. There’s way too many people nitpicking games acting like they’re terrible when they’re actually 8/10s
Your view on ghosts is exactly how I feel with red dead 2. Everyone loves it but I didn’t enjoy a minute of it. But I knew it was a good game but it just didn’t click with me.
I'm so happy that Ubisoft decided to make another game based on Greece and its mythology! I loved Odyssey as a first time player and fell in love with Kassandra and the beautiful ancient greek world that they created. Can't wait to do more exploring!!
Immortals Fenyx Rising has been my most anticipated Ubisoft game since it was first announced. However, my excitement for this game has waned after watching all the demos and playing Genshin Impact. Don't get me wrong. I do think that I will still enjoy Fenyx Rising more than AC Valhalla and Legions but at the end of the day, it still looks like your typical Ubisoft open-world game. Besides, I don't really like the art style including the character models and UI. Genshin Impact may be a weeb gacha game and I know its cool to be on a hate train for game such as this. But like it or not, the Chinese devs are fully aware of what makes BoTW great and did a brilliant job of meshing action JRPG gameplay with BoTW world design. It also has some of the best character designs (thus its called Breath of Waifus) and OSTs which is something Immortal Fenyx Rising clearly lacks. So yea, there is no reason to pay $60 for this game when I can just play Genshin Impact for free. I guess I will just buy the game when its 50% off instead lol.
I dunno why people keep calling Genshin Impact a weeb game. It isn't, its simply a Chinese game that takes inspirations from many different cultures and genres. Yes, the character designs take many inspirations from anime and the Japanese VA is cringe just like most anime but beyond that, there is nothing weeb about it. The first region plays out like your typical Western fantasy setting and the second region is historical China setting. The first region does feel BoTW to me but when I first entered the second region, it just reminds me of how I felt when I first played Skyrim back in 2011 and The Witcher 3 back in 2016. Hell, I am certain that the second region, Liyue is the main reason why everyone has been praising Genshin Impact.
They have their differences Days gone is better for its attention to details, physics to things, and more realistic graphics Ghost of tsushima had a better story, artistic graphics, combat , no bugs , but it didn't have that brutal combat and the physics of dead bodies were non existent. But Ghost of tsushima is better for me because of its story and my love for Japanese history.
I have no hope for this game. Montreal gave us Syndicate and Odyssey, one of the most frustrating games and one of the worst games respectively. It’s made by them and I have no faith in their abilities as Montreal has shown us that they are absolutely the best Ubisoft studio, not to mention that they gave us Rainbow Six Siege. I think the problem does extend to the company as a whole with the developers always being sidelined to profit. Ubisoft operates by constantly failing to see through the developer’s vision, but when they finally produce a well-received product they’re told to try to pump out something similar that’ll never live up to the predecessor. I hope you enjoy IFR but I frankly don’t care for the game, partially by being burnt by Quebec’s awful games and partially by the game very obviously being sidelined for the moneymakers.
I just finished watching your 5hour critique of the last of us two and I'm really beginning to see gaming in a different light, and realizing how much we are influenced by others to such a degree that we may not see truly works of art for what they are because they are judged harshly by the majority before we get a chance to embark on our own experience, I for one really like the art style in this game, ps thanks for extending my attention span and keep up the awesome content
Hey Luke, what's your opinion on Mafia: Definitive Edition? I didn't play the original, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. The storytelling felt like I was inside a movie. In my opinion, one of the best linear games of the year!
As long as it's not full of "time saver" micro-transactions, copy/paste side quests and tailing missions I could give the game a chance. But "Best Ubisoft Game of The Decade" is a bit of a stretch
Given its pre order scans and variations it seems to be. And given the absolute grind of the game from the demos shown it most likely will be too. Watch Fihzys hypothesis on it.
@@zacharybrown8054 Origins and Odyssey have the exact same combat system. Origins has one of the worst told stories in a Ubisoft game imo, I enjoyed Odyssey’s much more. And the voice acting is basically the exact same in both games. I can’t imagine thinking one was better than the other in that department.
So why didn't you make a follow-up video on this? Cause you actually liked it, so decided that it wasn't worth reviewing a Ubisoft game where you're not completely shitting on it? Why did you feel the need to make 50 negative Valhalla videos, and not a single one on this one since its apparently the "best Ubisoft game in a decade"? You haven't had time since October 2020?

Wouldn't be surprised. It's definitely not just coincidence how he went from being hypercritical of Ubisoft's older games to praising their newest titles. People can change their opinions over time though 🤷🏾♂️
I just hope because of Ubisoft and Nintendo relationship we can see interviews on the staff creating this game explaining that Botw was their inspiration and how certain task they did in Zelda inspired them to add mechanics to improve the gameplay style of this genre of games
Holy crap, I thought I was the only person on the planet who just thought GOT was average, I swear if it was named AC:Tsushima it would have been shredded to pieces.
I'm gonna be very surprised if this game ends up being better than ACIV, Origins, or FC3. I did not like Odyssey very much and have never played BotW, so I can not say that I look forward to it. I personally think a better title would have been "most innovative Ubisoft game" or "best new IP from Ubisoft" in a decade. But I'm sure I'm a bit biased towards those games, so what do I know?
It’s odd that you come out in support of this game. All the other coverage I’ve seen suggests it’s too bland, boring and basic to survive in this launch window. And I really don’t see anything appealing about the game, being a big fan of every game that Immortal is similar to
Then you definitely won't like it. You'll just spend the whole time thinking oh this is like BotW. It's a game meant for children who arent jaded from decades of similar games. You have to appreciate it through those lens
and a lot of things is going on within Ubisoft at the moment. And they launch a lot of games at the same time. :) Also Luke, I respect your opinion about GoT. BUT. GoT and AC valhalla will be my games of the year!
This game does genuinely looks great from what I've seen of various previews of people who played and it and gameplay videos I've seen. But man, it's unveiling in the first trailer they showed with the pop music gave a baffling first impression!
I actually find this game more "fun" than BOTW, I'd even go as far and say that I think it's a better game. No breakable weapons, no crafting, it just takes the fun parts of BOTW and highlights them. BOTW is jaw dropping and I find myself just hours walking around exploring and it's amazing but for fun factor IFR is it. It's a fantastic game!
this BOTW has so much rules it sucks the fun out of it. IFR feels like pure playground while BOTW feels like a school that happens to have a playground.
I see it this way: Odyssey was a forced mix between AC and Greek mythology and never came to mesh at any time. I was very neutral/disappointed playing Odyssey and I'm usually very biased towards AC games because I'm a huge fan. However, I believe this game takes the silliness in Odyssey and kinda creates a new genre in Ubisoft where there is no AC pressure whatsoever. It can literally do whatever it wants as long as it nails Greek mythology. So I would give this game a try because it feels as if for once the devs were not forced into doing something they were not passionate about.
I think Ghosts of Tsushima was made to be a tribute to Kurasawa's film style rather than an engaging game. I 100%'d in 8 days with minimum ui on the hardest difficulty and found myself not in awe at my ability to play well but how well my gameplay looked without me playing well. As someone who is pretty good at not being inflamatory I think you'd actually make some good well thought out points about Ghosts you might not be so confident exist with your limited time but back to the game that actually brought me here. Fenyx looks cool and its got a nice art style that kinda makes me think of a 3d version of Son of Egypt. The world and game look like they belong together where as Odyssey felt disjointed putting God powers in a very otherwise grounded game universe. The resource bar looks really annoying as it constantly tries to track the character rather than lock itself in a static postion and size. Button prompts for an interaction even though they have a symbol to indicate the player press a known interaction button. Y GATHER is just extra clutter that undones the glow of the mushrooms and diamond image
I have to disagree with you on this. Granted I haven't played the game, I think it looks the same as any other Ubisoft game. Saying GoT is not a great game just hurt me a lot. I think it was a beautiful game. Granted it had bugs and could have been better but I think it was above any other Ubisoft game!
Oh for sure he can have his opinions. I am just saying that it hurt that GoT wasn't good enough for him. And Like I said, I haven't played the game yet. So even my opinions can change

u should really finish the story in ghost of tsushima. the game takes way longer to open up than it should but once it does, it's amazing. also the new legends mode is insane and completely free

@@ShadowFlame420 It usually doesn't take long to realize a game isn't for you. Didn't take me long with Bloodborne, or Shadow of Mordor, or Final Fantasy 15. Just a couple hours is enough, and clearly he figured it out quickly enough to make a judgement call.
@@Hiramekiza i thought the same for the first several hours but it got way better
@@ShadowFlame420 That's great for you. For others, myself included, it's just not worth the time investment. If a game can't hook me in the first hour or two I'm dropping it. I'd rather watch a play through or just ignore the game entirely than waste my time.
I love the fact that you have a far more positive outlook on games than most jaded journalists & TH-camrs today, please don't apologize for a refreshing attitude towards a wonderful hobby so many of us love my friend!
I continue to really appreciate and be blown away by your content. There's just not much of this anymore. Well thought out, expertly explained and rationalized and not just full of stupid memes and yelling for no reason. It's wonderful that someone thinks enough of their audience to make content for us that doesn't treat us like we're all idiots and dullards. Especially since TB passed there was just massive hole in the space of someone who makes content like this. It's really appreciated Luke, thank you.
My thoughts exactly
This game was an amazing experience. I had fun the entire way through.
Yeah looks like a fun game
Luke Stephens is the name, 7 minute intros is the game.
I love you ,but that music dude wtf ???????????
Better than Rayman Legends? Unlikely, but we shall see...
I think it will be better, but iconic? I don't think so
rayman legends actually slapped. one of the most fun games of the last decade
Rayman Legends will forever be my favorite platformer
I wish the music wasn't so distracting and loud, it sounds like I left a game open in the background.
3:20 "I'm not bashing managers"
3:25 "they're a necessary EVIL"
Come on Luke, you know the NumberMen are there to bridge the gap between those that can do creative work and those that can fund it. The problem isn't the job itself, it's that Ubi has good artists, but BAD MANAGERS, and i'm still a bit skeptical about how effective were the two last purges on the white collar departments.
I see that people still have the “Ubisoft bad” vibe huh
Well there not wrong.
Ehh. It looks pretty generic. And I dont think you can really say that it wont become pretty repetitive as it goes on. I dont thinkbthey cab really sustain having such a large variety of puzzles before the mechanics start repeating themselves. It looks fun and colourful, sure, but I'd not think it can live upto what you say
Braindead take
Great preview. The game looks adorable and gameplay fun.
The art style turns me off completely, but maybe that's just me.
reminds me so much of Kingdom of Amalur which I didn't play but when Luke here says it's fresh and different... well, yeah, from other Ubisoft games. Overall, it's clearly more of the same both in graphics and mechanics.
It's the opposite for me
I feel that the art style is just ok except for the god awful faces and ui but other than that it’s fine
I feel exactly the same. The initial reveal trailer got me excited, and when it appeared again, it turned me off.
Medicore game . For a next gen game??? Ps5 hasn't showed anything yet to be " cutting edge".
I think you're forgetting about Child of Light. That game isn't ten years old and even though it didn't come from a bigger part of Ubisoft. It's one of the best games Ubisoft has ever been involved in. This game looks interesting too though.
Child of Light, Rayman Origins/Legends and Driver San Francisco.
finally, someone talking about the climbing, freerunning, flight etc.
Nothin beats at 100+ combo and them sword and axes swings start looking aggressive
Me too! Can't wait for roller champions!
I was searching for a fun game since and after I finished and absolutely loved odyssey. But couldn’t play breath of the wild only having a ps4
And after subscribing to your channel I looked for and hoped for a suggestion for that next game to get excited about. Well today I found it. And I wanted to give you a huge thank you because you haven’t led me wrong yet. I like the same game style as you and look forward to buying this and downloading it tonight. Immediately after I get home from work. Thanks for the excellent review. Keep up the good work. Glad to know their are others out there who feel the same way I do about gaming who can articulate it so well as yourself. Blessings!
There's also Genshin Impact i guess

Which assassin's creed game was that at the beginning?
9:20 - 9:30 sorry but they already know that it will work since Zelda did it first.... you cant give ubisoft the credit for "Tyring something new" when Zelda paved the way for them!
They are just trying to improve on what was already succesful nothing wrong with that even appreciate it since zelda has some things i wish i could change.
While I get that it seems like that, thats really an oversimplification. Just because a game is open world with a lighter tone does not mean its a Zelda clone.
@@peterdelisle7083 oh come on!^^ they copied everything! even the freaking magnesis!^^
and yeah they improved on it! can smack foes with rocks that you caught from them!
But not even genshin is that blatant!!
if someone discribed the mechanics of the game to you ,you could not establish if it is zelda or phoenix....
"not gonna write it with an stupid F... you dont write Zelda with an S..."
@@peterdelisle7083 it doesn't but this game really looks like a Zelda clone with an Odyssey skin. What unique mechanics are in this game?
@@peterdelisle7083 that’s not the argument here dawg. Botw isn’t just an open world with “light tones”
That being said, that being said, that being said, that being said, that being said, that being said.....
That being said...
Cyberpunk redefined "broken" and "buggy"
As someone who loves mythology, this game has my favorite depiction of Zeus.
Accurately awful and hilarious.
This is a weird question but did they take notes from things like the chemistry engine in BOTW involving the interconnectivity of the world
I totally agree with you on the repetition. The funny thing is that I love the last two Far Cries because of their wild ideas in the rigid framework.
Just play ac Valhalla u won’t be disappointed
How you can like Days Gone and be apathetic over Ghost of Tsushima is beyond me
They have their differences
Days gone is better for its attention to details, physics to things, and more realistic graphics
Ghost of tsushima had a better story, artistic graphics, combat , no bugs , but it didn't have that brutal combat and the physics of dead bodies were non existent. But Ghost of tsushima is better for me because of its story and my love for Japanese history.
He must not be into Japan or true history. Not sure why.
Honestly liked the original name so much more... but i can’t wait to play this game. Reminds me of Zelda, Elder Scrolls online, and an AC game.
this is the first game they've developed in forever that doesn't look like a stinking pile of ubishit.
I hope we get weather elements in Phoenix Rising like where we have to equip the right clothing.
Yo siege is one of the biggest esports game for a reason, it's a pretty damn good tactical team shooter
Yeah I don't buy anything made by quebec anymore. Complete lack of care and talent from them
Quebec gave us those two
Montreal gave origins and blackflag
It's funny because I enjoyed Syndicate, Origins AND Odyssey. But I despised Black Flag and Unity. To each their own I guess.
@@camiloheras6146 I know, that’s what I said haha
I just finished watching your 5hour critique of the last of us two and I'm really beginning to see gaming in a different light, and realizing how much we are influenced by others to such a degree that we may not see truly works of art for what they are because they are judged harshly by the majority before we get a chance to embark on our own experience, I for one really like the art style in this game, ps thanks for extending my attention span and keep up the awesome content

I have to call Odyssey a better game than Origins for the fact that the music doesn’t cut out during fights half the time in Odyssey.
But then you got the bad story, copy and paste forts, bad voice acting, and the worst combat system of all time. Origins is the better game by far
In the mean time ACG calls it one of the most generic. Having seen the gameplay, I'd have to side with him
Lol yeah I got that notify aswell but thought would watch this first
I have seen gameplay (not much tho, I got bored quickly), and I'd side with ACG too.
I'm getting this game for sure. The only problem I have is -- how am I going to find time to play this along with CP2077 and Valhalla?

Let’s hope you can actually equip and use a shield in this game.

Several of his other videos have been about Ubisoft and their games. This isn't anything new, he just enjoys their shit.
and a lot of things is going on within Ubisoft at the moment.
I enjoyed the game greatly. Idc if it copied things. Gaming has been about trends from Day 1. It’s literally the foundation of gaming.
This fenix game looks like fable , I like it
Hate to agree, but the music wasn't the best choice here.
Playing the game currently and it's actually really good. I recommend it.
Just from the title.
The bar was not set very high lmao
