Those blue clips holding the headliner near rear window are terrible on the video you can see he also lost metal parts of those clips because they designed by some morron
Thank you for producing this video. Last year I purchased a used 2019 G MC sierra (private sale) which had a hole punctured in the brake light lens. I replaced it with a new one and with the help of your video I replaced it myself. Start to finish it took me 3 1/2 hours taking my time.
I bought a 2021 5.3 Trail Boss in July. Your vids are spot on informative, super easy to follow. Appreciate them a lot. They've given me so many great ideas of things I can easily do myself. I'm gonna have to get a second job though to pay for it all. Lol
Just so everyone is aware, those 12 bolts you undo from under the headliner, those come with a PRE-LOADED rubber washer on the bottom side of the nut to help seal it from moisture/water damage. The rubber washer is opaque/white and is literally paper thin. They usually get stuck or attached to the body when you remove them, so make sure they come off and put a new rubber washer or sealant on when you re-attach the spoiler nuts
Did the same and once everything was put together ..I stuffed some Trim lock solid strip .25 diameter and nicely tucks into the crack between the cab roof top and the front spoiler..no water or dirt getting in .
I did it, followed your lead a bit scary but no prob, I didn't have the bed camera so the recon light works perfectly. I couldn't reach those yellow tabs but just gave it a little jerk and it came right out. super dirty under . Terrible design by chevy didn't brake a thing, my truck is black mudered out now. Thanks it really helped to use your info !!! followered your lead on the taillights also !
Great video. I'm in the process of installing a 70cm ham radio antenna and the spoiler looks like a great place without drilling a hole in the main body of the roof. I have a 21 GMC denali 1500 serria with 6.2 so it should be the same. Thanks again for taking out the guess work.
There was no way I was getting into this myself, I had to swing by the dealership for this one. After they got finished the dude told me the should of charged way more.
There's a re call on the back glass for leaking water just take to dealer and have them change light when they do re call. The plastic separates from the glass.
It's not a recall, just a technical service bulletin (TSB). I have the infamous rear window water leak on my brand new 2023 Sierra HD. My completely incompetent dealership service department fucked my truck up, and didn't even fix the leak. Just ordered the the high-tech seam seal, and eight 10mm bolts to fix it myself per the TSB. The incompetent techs at Buick GMC Hyundai of Goshen can't follow the simple instructions on the TSB.
Great video, well done. I found this while I was washing my truck. I was in the bed rinsing the top and leaves and pine needles kept coming out of the crack between the roof and the spoiler, so I figured I would remove the spoiler to clean it properly. How difficult could it be right? Sadly this poor design requires an absurd amount of work. sure hope the lamp never fails.
Just bought Lasfit LEDs . Not going through all this trouble just to change lights. I have a head ache rack and I'm never fixing this brake light once it blows. I'll use a hole saw from the outside first before I mess up my headliner.
Man having 2 screws on a 17 chevy is so nice to swap the 3rd brake then 20 plus blots n screws, these newer truck are getting built to be way harder to modify
I have a 16 I wonder if I can get away with installing this spoiler/brake light mounted on the cab ? I was thinking loosing the screws and using double sided adhesive for trim but idk if the body lines match
I had this happen today with a 2023 trail boss, the camera won't fit in the Recon led unit nor do the screws line up for the bracket to hold the camera in place.
Just watched the video. Maybe I missed it, but what were trying to accomplish? Are you trying to upgrade the third brake light to the one with the cámara that pairs up with the upgraded video rear view mirror?
Hopefully they get that light fixed so you can get it on and show us!! I can't wait to get a truck to do mods like this. I have a 5-speed focus right now and it's fun, but you just can't beat a good truck.
Hey man! I just removed my 3rd brake light and noticed I don’t have the little silver/metal clips ( 3:57 in video ) that attach to the blue rear headliner clips that mount to the roof. Did you have any rattles

Hey man, I have back window leaking dealership wants 1500 to replace and dry out. I was wondering if you thought by taking the spoiler off I would have plenty of access to get some silicone all up and around the top and sides of glass?
Chevy had a recall or sorts (they call it a maint bulletin) for rear window leak with auto slide open. the leaking point was actually in the tray where the window slides open - seems to crack. I was just out of warranty but printed the bulletin out and handed it to the dealer and told them i think they should be covering this....and they did.

My headliner is wet top, right, and water is dripping between the center headrest and the right headrest. Thinking one of those yellow clips with foam seal leaking. Just seen it today. 2019 gmc.

Is the third brake light led or regular bulb? Seems silly to go through all that jazz just to replace a bulb. I think in 15 years the 2018 is going to be like the OBS and NBS trucks as they are the last of the pre over engineered trucks with out all the other technologies. I love my 2018 6.2 Sierra.
As collision tech I hate Chevrolets designs coming from a how things come apart and go back together on the bodies. Ford has them beat on simplicity of construction body wise.
I noticed mine was cracked so I'm like lets go on a see how to take this thing off since I do not see any screw. THE HELL WITH THAT!!! it can stay, Most none sense design, Should be 2 screws that you can screw in from the outside.
BE AWARE OF DOING THIS! make sure your hands are clean puting things back together and give yourself plenty of time and light xD. i cannot get those two clips back in the middle of headliner I may have broken them. upsetting as hell when you fuck up.......

good to know because i installed a magnetic mount cb antenna on the roof of my 21 silverado and the cable routed nicely around one of the edges.

Wait until you go to replace the belt There is no belt tension pulley, You have to get a special tool to get the belt off and on

I used this to fox the leak in my truck. I had to buy two new clips part #11547026 that broke when pulling headliner down.
