The closure of the Royal Central Doors of the Iconostas, and often a drawn curtain are symbolic of the separation between God and Mankind that Christ ended by his crucifixion, death, and resurrection. This is generally just called Eastern Rite, according to Eastern Orthodox Churches (of which this video shows one with the Patriarch Kyrill of Moscow and all Russia)
You can still find the old Tridentine mass in some places, if you know where to look. Whether or not they're permitted is up to the local ordinary. Compared to the post-Vatican II mass, it's extremely sober, with a much heightened sense that they are doing something sacred.
Look For The Eastern Catholic Churches If You want to celebrate in your belief :) , well im from the Latin Catholic church Mass in Indonesian is the most beautiful Mass after the Mass in Latin...
Are you sure that this can properly be called "Byzantine Rite"? It's actually Russian Orthodox, which of course was based upon the ancient Byzantine rite that existed in 988 AD. But I don't know that this is what the Primate of the Greek Church, Bartholomew currently celebrates and of course that would be in the Greek language and not in Russian.
@@eetuerrenor5757 Ya but why one chalice? Does Russian orthodox have many altars like my church (malankara orthodox)? If we have too many attendees we can celebrate 3-5 Eucharists simultaneously
I hope the changes in Vatican II have not effected the eastern rite churches. In the U.S.A. I think some such as the Byzantine say Holy Mass with the priest facing “versus populum” this abuse should be stopped and none of the prayers should be said in the vernacular. Any comments on this would be welcome.
No hate on Roman Catholic liturgy, but they just don't fit the beauty of the Byzantine Rite. I'm sure someone may disagree with me. Also, I love Western Rite Orthodox churches.
This is the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy at the biggest cathedral in Russia. They are going to do the Holy Communion of around 2000 people - hence the size.
Of Course real bread when we need to deep something into liquid we want it to soak, not to just be a chip. But the problem is Catholic Church has forbidden layman to commune His Blood, and that is a mistake, against Jesu's words.
Jesus said, take and eat and take and drink. He did not say, take and soak my body in my blood and pass it out on a spoon ! Catholic laity take the body of Christ in their hands and eat it, and drink his blood directly from the chalice as was done in the early Church. Apparently, you are not familiar with current Catholic liturgical practice .
+Giovanni Serafino Yes, in the early church those were separated, and The Body was given into the hands of each communer and then everybody would drink from the cup. However, there were many cases when people would accidentally drop The Body on the floor, which is the highest holy object and thats not good. And drinking from the cup posed many problems for communing the sick and infants. That is why The Church decided to put The Body and The Blood together and feed Them from the spoon - it is practical, natural as in any body those two are together and not against the canons. But using unleavened bread and not giving both The Body and The Blood to the parish is.
El rito bizantino se le llama a la forma liturgica que tal se celebra en Constatinopla. Hay liturgia orientales como el copto o alejandrino, el antioqueno, etc. En Occidente está el romano, el milanés o ambrosiano, etc.
I love both churches catholic and orthodox. As a christian people we need learn the word RESPECT because i found out that some other churches like baptist and etc are saying that catholic church and orthodox should go to hell because they are pagans and lots of gods, lots of golds things inside of the church, statues of saints. I am telling you guys catholics and orthodox do not worship saints. The only person we worship is JESUS the son of god and mary. I hope you guys get my point. God bless you all.
I believe that "orthodox" is sometimes used in the way that you use "Byzantine rite." I once went to a old-calender Ukrainian parish outside of Philadelphia. They are in communion with Rome, but he referred to himself as 'Orthodox." It was Holy Thursday and I was inquiring to find out their Pascha schedule and he said "This Sunday is Catholic Pascha. We celebrate Orthodox Pascha, which is not for a long time." It was St. Michael the Archangel in Jenkintown PA.
That chalice must be heavy without the soggy bread and wine in it, can't imagine how heavy it is with the elements of holy communion and the golden spoon in it.
Actually the Bible does talk about the Trinity right in the creation account. Genesis 1:26 is proof. John 1:1-14 sheds more light on this truth, and so does Colossians 1, just to name a few passages.
Qqq Qqq your Hebrew is horrid, not to mention so is your English! I came to faith in Yeshua (Jesus) from an orthodox background. I'm not lying, nor am I "milleading" as I don't even know what that means (it's not even a word). I need not repent of anything, nor will I ever turn my back on the truth and bow. to satan (Islam)! Deuteronomy 6:4 reads: שמע ישראל ה׳ אלקינו, ה׳ אחד! "Hear (Shmah) Israel (Yisrael) the L-RD (A-onai) our G-d (Elokeynu), the L-RD is one (Echad). There are two words for one יחיד (yachid) which means one singular entity, and אחד which means a unity (such as the case between husband and wife in Genesis 1:24, and G-d in Deuteronomy 6:4). You've yet to comment on Genesis 1:26 where the Triune G-d says: נעשה אדם בצלמנו כדמותנו "Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness". You have no idea in what you are talking about! it wasn't until the time of Rambam (who died in 1204 CE), that the view of G-d being echad was synonymous to Him being yachid. There are even debates in Talmud whether G-d is yachid, or echad. Scripture (TaNaKh, and the New Testament) make a strong argument for the Triune view of G-d. I've wrestled with this issue, and am now a Trinitarian, you've not studied.

Respostas Católicas I would prefer you speak English then I don't have to translate. You are an ignorant fool who doesn't educate himself. The Western church are the real protestants and schismatics. Your church is schismatic in believing in papal infallibility, something that the East never believed in and never will. Tell me, how would the East suddenly decide in papal infallibility or be "schismatic" in something they never believed in? The church was founded in the East not the West. Get your facts straight!
shocking how "the mysteries" have been taken back to the hidden room by the priestly caste. That was not what Christ was and is about. This is privilege in utter self-serving defiance of Christ.
Papal authority is based on forgeries as the Donation of Constantine and the False Decretals and papacy was separated from the Church insisting in its authority. Every Christian who loves Jesus Christ must see the truth and join His Church, the Orthodox Church..
The primacy of Saint Peter is biblical, and empirical, look at the unity of the Catholic church, it's the charism of the catholic church. I just pray that all the apostolic churches unite again, keeping all their charisms and cultural specificities alive. Take Care GreekPontus.
Silvio Do Nascimento The primacy of Saint Peter may be biblical, but the papal supremacy is definitely not my friend. The bishops of Rome were not considered as the exclussive successors of Saint Peter in the Catholic Church before the Schism of 1054 AD. The tradition of the Church was that many bishops preside over the See of Peter. I disagree that there is more unity in modern "catholicism" in comparison to the Orthodox Church, but it is a long discussion. In contrast I could say that there is more love and kindness in the Orthodox Church and that it is the charism of Jesus to His Church
Silvio Do Nascimento The Orthodox Church does consider St. Peter to be a first among equals. More like a Figurehead in Constitutional Monarchies, while de facto decisions are made by collegial debate. The mistake of Papal infallibility the Catholics did is twisting Papal authority into an unlimited dictatorship taken from the Imperial Roman God-Emperor Augustus, when no man is supposed to be infallible and Jesus opposed any mere flawed and sinful man being elevated to Augustan levels of authority. Look at what sins the Papal Dictatorship has led into: the Inquisition; the mass burning, torture and genocide of Heretics and Homosexuals; the selling of Indulgences that turned the Church into a prostitute-like corporate enterprise offering salvation if you pay for it; the concept of Original Sin which meant that all unbaptized babies are guilty of ''existing'' and will go to Hell; a literal intepretation of Hell that was popularized further by Dante's Inferno when the Orthodox, who focused on iconography and symbolism, merely considered Hell to be a metaphor for the inherent punishment of sin; protection of Paedophiles by the Vatican; and many others that would have disgusted Jesus. Even the Byzantine emperors never achieved the levels of power the Pope amassed during the Middle Ages.
The Latin Church (i.e. Roman Catholic Church) does not deny the validity of other legitimate rites (including the Byzantine Rite). The Byzantine Rite is used by many Catholics with complete approval by the Latin Church. The Latin Church does not deny the legitimate apostolic inheritance of the Greek Orthodox Church, and therefore acknowledges that these consecrated Bishops and their priests have every authority to minister the sacraments every bit as much as in the Latin Church. I've never really researched the teaching of the Greek Orthodox Church on the Latin Church, but I would suspect that their view is similar on the legitimacy of other rites (including the Roman Rite) and the authority of the Latin Church to minister sacraments as legitimate apostolic inheritors of Christ.
gridcaster Eastern Orthodoxy (not only the Greek Orthodox Church) is the fullness of the Church and we can't receive Communion in a non-Orthodox parish. This fact proves that we (Orthodox and "catholics") are not a united Church and that non-Orthodox sacraments are not valid. "Catholic" priests are not seen as legitimate apostolic inheritors of Christ since 1054 AD, when the latin church was separated from the Church. The actual unity requires a unity in faith, which does not exist because of some doctrinal differences (papal supremacy and infallibility, filioque, purgatory etc)

There has to be some wheat in the host, but you can use an extremely low wheat gluten host (there are producers) which would be sufficient for most celiacs to not have any problems. you can also choose to only drink the consecrated wine which is perfectly okay canonically as there is no requirement to consume both species.
I went to a few greek/eastern orthodox masses. They use actual bread for the host/body of Christ, and dip it in the wine (or soak it).
Gloriously Apostolic.
so are the orthodox doing a mass in eastern catholic chruch or is it just a orthodox church with Byzantine Rite liturgy
What music is sung during the consecration
We praise You,
we bless You,
we give thanks to You,
and we pray to You, Lord our God,
and we pray to You, Lord our God,
and we pray to You, Lord our God.
This is generally just called Eastern Rite, according to Eastern Orthodox Churches (of which this video shows one with the Patriarch Kyrill of Moscow and all Russia)
Btw...it's all in Russian or Old Slavonic? Somebody can tell me?
Old Slavonic
This is so beautiful! What happened to tradition in the Catholic Church? This is where it is at.
You can still find the old Tridentine mass in some places, if you know where to look. Whether or not they're permitted is up to the local ordinary. Compared to the post-Vatican II mass, it's extremely sober, with a much heightened sense that they are doing something sacred.
Look For The Eastern Catholic Churches If You want to celebrate in your belief :) , well im from the Latin Catholic church
Mass in Indonesian is the most beautiful Mass after the Mass in Latin...
Maria Serafin right here.
Is Roman Catholic allowed to take Eastern comunion?
Yes, but only Catholic and Ortodox. in any situation anywhere in the world
No one can pray with heretic and be a Catholic - St. Agatho
It's not russian, is liturgical slavonic.
Why is the chalice and the Lamb so big?!
That's because of the needs caused by so large an attendance.
@@eetuerrenor5757 Ya but why one chalice? Does Russian orthodox have many altars like my church (malankara orthodox)?
If we have too many attendees we can celebrate 3-5 Eucharists simultaneously
@@evan.5967 No we don't do that
This is celebrated in the Orthodox Church. His Holiness Kirill, not a unia.
thankyou
Where is this Church?
It is the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.
Beautiful
did anyone alse see the woman texting at 3:40?
Jonathan Robbins haha thank you
iStouts Didnt look like texting, more like trying to figure something out/ change a setting on her phone.
Oh, it could've been that, I didn't think of that. I guess we should assume the benefit of the doubt
Look at all the women wearing head coverings though. That's not cool to judge.
+Yipyo1986 So what if that woman's head was covered. She still wasn't paying attention to the most solemn part of the Divine Liturgy.
Where was this recorded?
+The Orthodox Lunatic Moscow, Russia.
+Orthodox Church It wasn't a Russian parish, then?
MetalheadWolfman It is Russian Orthodox Church, Moscow Patriarch Cyril serving Divine Liturgy in Temple of Christ the Savior.
Oh. Gotcha.
As a catholic this looks very familiar
I hope the changes in Vatican II have not effected the eastern rite churches. In the U.S.A. I think some such as the Byzantine say Holy Mass with the priest facing “versus populum” this abuse should be stopped and none of the prayers should be said in the vernacular. Any comments on this would be welcome.
El cambio solo afecto al rito latino romano que es mayoría.
@@luismanuelpotencianonorato9672Yo he visto que el rito Bizantino Católico lo celebran cara al pueblo aquí donde vivo.
Orthodox is recognized as apostolic is it not?
Orthodoxy is the only Holy Apostolic Catholic faith and Church!
im a roman Catholic i find this interesting
Is this Byzantine Catholic or Orthodox?
Russian Orthodox
No hate on Roman Catholic liturgy, but they just don't fit the beauty of the Byzantine Rite. I'm sure someone may disagree with me. Also, I love Western Rite Orthodox churches.
And this is an Orthodox Divine Liturgy, btw.
No, this is Orthodoxy.
this is the Russian orthodox church, patriarch kirill.
very cool
This is what’s called the Ruthenian rite in Russia they are in full union with Rome and are fully catholic and apostolic church!
Ruthenian rite?
I was surprised by the amount of wine and using a real bread. Catholic Church uses a small amount of wine and bread.
Lord Jesus Christ said "Drink, ALL OF YOU", He knew that Latins will forbid laymen to receive His blood.
This isnt a "byzantine rite" this is Orthodox and Russian... it has nothing to do with the Roman church
El rito bizantino se le llama a la forma liturgica que tal se celebra en Constatinopla. Hay liturgia orientales como el copto o alejandrino, el antioqueno, etc. En Occidente está el romano, el milanés o ambrosiano, etc.
I think this is orthodox not eastern rite
Everyone standing up, no reclinatories, they can't get on their knees during consecration...
Wow
holy graal
They also sometimes use the Latin rite!
Russian Orthodox, not Byzantine. Byzantine is in Greek and uses Greek tonalities.

As a Protestant, I agree.

Nathaniel Ramos Good point, Nathaniel. I am Orthodox, but I love the Roman Church too. They have many good qualities and traditions.

Michael the Archangel in Jenkintown PA.
if they are in communion with Rome - they are not Orthodox.
I'm a controlling isa mama control usa
Deuteronomy 6:4 reads:
שמע ישראל ה׳ אלקינו, ה׳ אחד!
You've yet to comment on Genesis 1:26 where the Triune G-d says:
נעשה אדם בצלמנו כדמותנו
"Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness".
Qqq Qqq Please, shut your mouth and be quiet! You can't tell us people to have faith in your Religion? Get out of this page, you are not supposed to even be here on Orthodox Things! Go back to your Satanic Islamic Things, for we do not want to join your belief, and will never join your belief! I will have my Faith in Jesus Christ as my Saviour, my Lord, my God, forever and ever, and you can't do anything about it! Same with the other people! So please, shut up already, we do not want to know about your Islamic things!
Qqq Qqq It doesn't matter whether it says Jesus created the world or not. Jesus is God. You can see in the Holy Orthodox Icons of the Creation of the World, it shows Christ creating the world. Christ is God! So? It doesn't matter!
CoolGuy12345678 using your idols to prove that Messiah is God isn't helping the cause.
What are flowers doing on the altar, isn't that a symbol of paganism and Western custom in the Orthodox Church which should only be placed on the iconostasis? - That's what my previous Orthodox spiritual father told me.
Não tem nexo nenhum esta afirmação! Saia do cisma ortodoxo!
Those who follow the Orthodox Church is in schism and heresy, and far from true orthodoxy that is found only in the Catholic Church!
Get your facts straight!

no, byzantine orthodox from Russia
Natewatl they serve by the Byzantine customs the liturgy of John Chrysostom. And there are still Orthodox Western rites
There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church
That is true. We hope for the return of the Patriarchate of Rome to the Catholic Church ☦️
shocking how "the mysteries" have been taken back to the hidden room by the priestly caste. That was not what Christ was and is about. This is privilege in utter self-serving defiance of Christ.
This thought was the exact same that destroyed the liturgy in the West
