My Cricut Foil kit was just delivered about an hour ago. I haven't tried it yet but will test it later today. I bought the Foil Quill when it first came out on HSN and it does work great, although it can be a pain because it needs to be plugged in. I also cringe every time I have to remove the adapter in clamp A. I'm always afraid that I'm going to break it. So I haven't really used it much. I think that I will use the Cricut tool much more simply because of how easy it is. I'm also hoping that some generic foil will start showing up. I have a lot of rolls in so many colors for the Foil Quill that I got really cheap.
Cricut Foil definitely works more seamlessly with my Cricut and design space. I just bought all the foil quills and the foil quill freestyle pens, which I probably wouldn't have if I knew about Cricut Foil. But, I'm glad I did now because I could really compare the 2 and I will continue to use the Foil Quill in my Cricut Joy, which I primarily use for cards. I AGREE, hopefully they will have cheaper/generic options with more colors for the pressure sensitive foils needed for Cricut Foil soon.
I made it with the Cricut maker. Cut it out with chip board and covered it with silver vinyl. Pattern from Jennifer maker jennifermaker.com/cricut-tool-holder-organizer-tool-bench/

Thank you so much for watching and I hoped this helps you choose between the 2 options!

Where did you get the silver holder you stick your foil quill pens into?
