Earlier this morning I was out and about running errands. Streaming KING FM (Seattle) in my car, this lovely work came on. At first I thought it was Le Papillon", Chopin, Etude Op.25 No.9. I am shocked Chopin only performed 30 times in public.
Ashkenazy’s found an interpretation that’s clearly in the music but somehow still feels courageously incompliant with a mainline read. Particularly in the beginning of the recording
"Allegro vivace" - his interpretation is faithful to the score. If you want a slower interpretation, there are plenty out there to choose from! Welcome to the internet.
@daniel signorini thank gosh you said opinion. In my opinion, this en the more delicate side of the piece, the others more on the lively side of the piece

For a more lyrical approach to this beautiful Impromptu, try Kate Liu, Bronze Medal winner at the 2015 Chopin Competition (right here on TH-cam). She has become a favorite Chopin interpreter of mine.
Unlike this interpretation the vast majority totally ignore the indication Tempo Giusto (exactly in time) and this is even very good pianists. I don't know why but this can totally destroy the sense of rhythm. This makes me like this version a lot. For my taste I prefer it a little slower though, and it is to be noted that in the Henlé Urtext version I have it simply writes Tempo Giusto and does not mention Allegro Vivace. What on earth is the point in comparing these two masterpieces which are so different from one another, and then standing in judgement over both of them and then saying your opinion is humble. Please sir, just enjoy the music or if you don't just don't listen to it.

It is amazing to me that this jewel has been 5 years in here and has received 131 opinions. This is one of the most precious pieces writen by Chopin

They are totally different.
usually good musician but doesn't follow Chopin's dynamic markings here and the elegant piece falls flat
A bit "get out of the way let me pass", but that's only my opinion. Prefer many of the other renditions here present.
Sounds bored out of his mind. Where's the rubato? End of phrases sometimes need a rit. He gives almost none.
LazlosPlane It is called flow. If you prefer the “peeing at every corner” type of phrasing.....well, you are free to express your opinion, of course.
