    If you were unaware your grid power was off until you tried using the stove perhaps hardwire a light at the main panel to denote when grid power is on/off for a better visual indicator? Superb setup. Congratulations on one of the cleanest whole home UPS's I've seen. Bravo.

    good clean setup. I have the same manual transfer switch. got a 30amp plug outside to connect a 4K generator to run 6 circuits in the house. Looking to tie solar and a battery bank to my back system.

      dubohio we are too lazy to go back and check all you videos to see I you ever said you CAN SELL the electric to the power company? very good looking job! we also wanted to know if this is solar as well, or just a emergency power source in case of storms etc....

    Nice I'm working towards something similar. Currently I have the pro Tran but my system is a manual transfer setup at the moment. I have to turn on an inverter and then switch over on the pro Tran but I think I might go with a system like yours soon. How is the aims inverter holding up? I've heard mixed reviews on them.

    Took me a minute...but I got it. Well done. How much are you seeing for lost power running the inverter all the time?
    What I like about this...uninterrupted power and no back feed. Would be nice to see how you integrate the solar into it.

    I have ZERO power on my property and like this system and would probably add a wind turbine and I'm wondering whats the max power i could store to not only run a 2000 square foot home but a large pole barn with shop tools? Would the new Tesla battery packs be a better choice? We will probably add a propane generator that can kick on in case of low power that would not only double as a power source but could also recharge our battery bank no matter what kind it is.

    Very nicely done, Wonderful setup. I do hope you're still monitoring this, and would be willing to help me out as I'm considering something similar, but not as sophisticated. I want to prepare a system I can plug into the inlet box for my reliant pro-tran just for those periods when the weather is too nasty to run the genset. Right now I've a small (2000 watt) 12-volt inverter but the DC Amperage is so high on that I"m thinking of buying a larger 48-volt inverter, and converting my parallel bank of 12s into a 48-volt series.
    All that being said, I'm curious to know what amperage you see on the DC side (between the battery box and the inverter) when under full load. You showed (I think) a 250 Amp DC fuse but the wiring looks like it's awful light for that.
    Would you be willing to share the size of the wiring you used in your box and between your bus bars and the inverter itself as well as the amperages you've observed

      All the cables on the DC side are 2/0 cables. I've never seen the DC side above 15amps ever but I know the AC side will never draw more than 1500 watts.

    Very nice system! I've been wanting to do this very same setup. Looks like you run the Honda inverter generators to your Aims inverter with out any issues, Do you know if the Aims inverter will run on a non-inverter generator with out going into inverter mode using batteries? My generator is not a pure sine wave generator and wonder if the Aims inverter will go into inverter mode because of it? Thank you for the great videos.

      I’m sorry I’m not sure how the Aims will respond to a generator that doesn’t put out clean energy.

    I’m doing the same is it better to use the ALL IN TRANSFER Switch or using a 50 Amp Double Pole Breaker Straight in to the Breaker Panel ? I have a 5KVA 230v Pure Sine Wave Inverter charge controller 48v at 3Kw 220v @ 72A x 1line , Moës Automatic Transfer Switch 120v @ 50A x 2 lines , I’ve got 2 - 48v battery banks lithium batteries, I have ALL POWER TRANSFER SWITCH looks like the 1 you have !

    I was writing up a blue print based on your design and It looks to me that the breaker that provides the AC power to your grid side of your inverter runs all 6 of your loads on the other side of your inverter. are you sure that is a good idea? did you install a larger breaker in the original box to power your inverter and deal with this?

      Joe Mckown yes, I put a dedicated 30amp breaker in to handle the inverter side. I monitored my power draw on these circuits for a few months before installing this to make sure the wiring and the breaker could handle the load. Before the power goes back in to the manual transfer switch there is a 20amp breaker (bottom left of this video) that makes sure no more than 20 amps can be pulled from the inverter, and then after that there are 15amp and 20amp breaks in the manual transfer switch (upper left) for each circuit.

      dave zorn the higher the D.C. Voltage the more efficient the system is.

    Quick question, if you only pull 20A why did you go with a 6000W inverter?
    Also, does the inverter run fans all the time when pulling the 50W?

      I went big so I would have over head. I’ve heard to many stories of people going with 2-4K watts and then wishing they went bigger or didn’t calculate it in. Also if I ever decide to get a bigger home. For me the fans only come on when the inverter is charging the batteries after they have been drained for a while and they don’t usually stay on long. I’ve probably heard the fans 5 times in 3 years of operation.

      PolymathPete I’m actually going a bit sour on AIMs inverters. This is my second one and I’m having issues with it switching back to utility power

      @@dubohio I have been initially looking at this one "POWER SINUS 6KW 24V 6000W/18000W" which looks like a rebranding of yours, but digging deeper I'm leaning towards a big brand name like "schneider electric" like a "Conext" hybrid inverter .. haven't gone through the specs yet but maybe the extra price is worth the better integration options.

    I would like to do what you are doing, but I have conflicting info from AIMs stating something about ground loops that could break the inverter and that I need a dual transfer switch. Could you please comment and maybe provide schematics on how its all connected. I want to setup my AIMs 6000W 48v system exactly like yours without the generator function. I already have a 10 circuit transfer switch ready to be setup, but need some additional guidance. Thanks for your assistance.

      So I was concerned with the exact same thing. I even called and talked to Aim's several times about this, and I can't remember what I did with this neutral to ground wire but I 'thought' that was the resolution here.       I also saw the info on page 22 and configured my system with that information. The only difference between my setup and yours is that have I created a relay system to do the auto transfer instead of depending on the internal transfer relay in the unit since it has a 25 Amp limitation. I am powering 10 circuits including the kitchen which has a 1750 W microwave oven, a 1200 watt toaster oven and the refrigerator as well as other loads in other rooms which would easily exceed the 25 amp transfer relay in the unit for normal day to day use. Of course in an emergency mode the 10 circuit usage would be minimized for battery consumption, i.e. no toaster oven or other big amp draw item usage. These 50amp relays isolates or bypasses the inverter for normal usage and switches when in "back up or emergency" mode.

      Anthony Hines interesting. Do you have any delay (light flicker) when you loose power? It seems like that would essentially be two transfer switches in series with the inverter and relays and would cause a noticeable delay in power transfer, no?
      My system is designed is operate under 15amps as I have a fairly efficient house and I’m only concerned about lights, garage, TVs, and fridge.

      The relays are not in series, but to separate circuits with the coils for the relays are in parallel. Anyway the switch over from lost of utility power to the inverter is in the 10 or 20 millisecond range so you do see change with an incandescent light bulb, but not that noticeable with LED lights or CFL lights. My TV's, PC and Servers are all on UPS so nothing to worry about there. Now going back to utility is a bigger gap of may be 200 to 500 millisecond so that is noticeable, but still not enough to mess with clocks or other devices. This is still work in progress, but it works for now.

    When the pro-tran is selected for GEN. How will a house circuit receive utility power without selecting the Pro-Tran for Line? To me it would seem that the GEN selection will only feed power to home circuit when running off of gen power. When house is LIVE on utility power, the home circuit w pro tran in GEN selection should be dead?? I would love some kind of diagram. I think I understand about 90% of your setup. Great Setup! But curious as to how home circuit is getting utility power when pro tran is in that GEN mode. I also don't quite understand how generator power is wired. But that is a different topic.

      Good question. Instead of hooking the generator to the GEN side of the proTran I have the inverter hooked to that. So it would look like utility -> inverter -> proTran (GEN side) -> home. So when the utility power is working and the proTran is in GEN setting the power flows through the inverter to the house. This is done so when the power go out it’s uninterrupted thanks to the automatic transfer switch in the inverter. It’s a strange thing when your in the house the power goes out and you leave and realize everyone else on your street is without power and you didn’t even know it cause it’s seamless.

      Aaron Rutell the line side is connected straight utility power. This is so I can take the inverter and batteries out of the system should I need to do maintenance or something like that my whole house wont have to be with out power.

      System has been working pretty good. It does everything i've expected it should. Only issue i'm having now is my inverter is starting to have some issues charging the batteries which i'm working with AIMs on.

    I was wondering if you could explain any 12 volt lights & appliances like some RV's use like 12 v coffee pots and others like 12 v led lights that are as bright or brighter then 120 v lights , And could it help save more energy if a person wanted to start out small and work their way up as they save money ?       @@dubohio I'd like to see a schematic too! I'm getting confused where wires go into junction boxes in videos 2 and 3. You have power from the 30 amp breaker going into the large junction box and then going to the small junction box and then out to the Main disconnect switch in the garage feeding the inverter and then you have the power from the 6 breaker transfer switch going into the large junction box and going to 6 breakers in your main breaker box?
