Holy heck this design was was over-complicated. For a maintenance item those engineers really decided to bury the thing.

Wasn't too bad once you've done it once you'll know for next time. Muscle memory

Just doing this job now, 260K km, as prevention maintainence ($600 towing fee from prev water pump failure is my motivation). Got stuck at the power steering pump, really Toyota, you could'nt have made 2mm more room for a socket!!
thanks for this video, it's probably a very expensive job at the dealer, and you can do it on your own, just take you time, order proper parts (OEM), and use a torque wrench on the smaller bolts. Good luck fellow DIY-ers

We are doing it now and the we took the bolts out from behind the power steering pump and we still can't get past the pump wheel to that last bolt. The video cuts and doesn't actually show you doing it. What are we missing? How do we get to that bolt?

nice video, but the torque spec you mentioned isn't in foot lbs. you mentioned it in Newton. it should be 35 ft lbs, 8 ft lbs, and 17ft lbs per Toyota repair manual...you mentioned it around 10mins of the video...keep them videos flowing... :)

My 2021 venture with 48k km had the water pump replaced twice. Dealer was difficult to deal with second time around. Truck design is not going to be kind with all the salt in my area. Fluid film🤞but it’s already looking like this one.

if you had to do it twice at that mileage, they didn't fix it right the 1st time

Hello, I bought my 4 Runner , new, in Oct. ‘21,TRD off road, I only have 20k miles so far, I live in Chicago area, but I wash it thoroughly, especially on Winter months, and was the bottom exterior of it so the salt will not stay on it for long, but so far I love it, and I bought it , because this will be my last vehicle I buy, I know this last and run a very long time,as I know proper maintenance is KEY,oil changes, etc.., thanks for sharing, you explained everything well, thanks.

Is it a bad design or nothing to worry about

I didn't think it was too difficult and it was from out of province so corrosion got to it. Aluminum doesn't rust but it will still corrode.

Car is only 2019: The waterpump is specifically covered by the powertrain warranty for 5 yrs/100k-km. Was it driven over warranty distance limit?
Also car is very rusty for a 4yo car.

Yea it had over 100k kms and it was from out of province.

Does the water cause the whining sound in the engine bay?
