  • Informing yourself about Aesthetic Flat Closure may make the decision to go flat a little easier. In this video, Dr. Ehanire explains the procedure, discusses possible reconstruction results, and answers questions such as when to go flat and does body size impact flat results.
Dr. Ehanire is a plastic and reconstructive microsurgeon specializing in breast reconstruction and aesthetic breast and body surgery. She completed her medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine. After receiving her medical degree, she entered the University of Florida’s six-year integrated plastic surgery program. The breadth of her training included microsurgical reconstruction for the breast and extremities, and face and body aesthetic surgery. Her passion for the care of breast cancer patients led her to the pursuit of expertise in the full range of breast reconstruction options, including implant-based and DIEP flap (living tissue) reconstruction. She joined the Austin Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery team in 2021.

It would be helpful to see some pictures of the outcomes of flat reconstruction.

Would an oncological breast surgeon be able to perform this surgery? I am thinking of having a preventative double mastectomy due to my BRCA 2 mutation status. I am 61 years old, with a 58% risk for breast cancer from my present age to 80 years old. The surgeon I am seeing in a week to discuss this option is a breast surgeon at Rush in Chicago.
