  • Exercise after cancer treatment or exercise after breast cancer surgery (such as mastectomy recovery) can cause fear and uncertainty. So many ask me when to exercise after surgery or what to start with to avoid hurting anything. In this video, I share the first breast cancer exercises after surgery that help women ease back into doing what they love. So whether you love yoga, or cycling, or weight lifting, you still need to start somewhere light. This is Step 1, of a 2-part series, that goes through how to do just that.

I’m a 39 yo man and I had a total mastectomy (both breasts removed) and 17 auxiliary lymph nodes removed in my left armpit. I had my surgery on April 22nd, 2022. It’s now May 9th. I finally had all my staples and tubes removed. So now it’s time to get my arms moving again. I have to get them ready in time for my May 20th radiology appointment, where they want me to be able to raise my arms above my head while laying down. Right now it seems impossible. It hurts so much to raise my elbows above my shoulder level. But I got approval to do exercises by my surgeon so here I am. Respect to everyone who has more movement than I do at this point!

13 days post single mastectomy and these exercises are just right for the amount of discomfort I am in. Just wish you had spaced each exercise out a bit so the required number of repetitions could be fit in between each exercise. Thank you for posting these.

Hey Kelly, thank you so much for these videos, I find them really helpful!! I'm just wondering if you would recommend skipping any of the stretches / exercises in your videos for patients recovering from mastectomy with immediate reconstruction? Thanks so much & kind regards from Germany!

Thank you for this clear and helpful video. I had DMX in April and just did swap to implants august 15. I have a lot of tightness in one side so I’m looking for exercises. What do you recommend regarding the core during bent-over rows?

Just had my double mastectomy on Monday. I think those are for after drains removed and scars are healed so you don’t pull on incisions
