    X100T is on the way because of this video. Couldn't afford a X100F. This will be very useful on the streets. Thanks!!

    Wow! I thought this was just an x100 quirk and all part of the charm! I didn't think you could actually fix it!!! Thanks Ken.

    Being a Fuji X100 series user of the whole series since 2011 there seems to be less chatter in 100F. But you can set up the camera the way you explained without reset the camera with F. Thanks Ken

  • @christophertaylor87
    @christophertaylor87 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Wow this is great! Now it is even more like a mechanical camera!
    Did you notice if holding the aperture in place is more of a drain on the battery than normal?
    Update: Got it working without a settings reset. You just need to make sure OVF Power Save Mode is set to Off

    Hey! Hope your weekend was great! Man, you are such an incredible resource, Ken. You could put together all kinds of Tips & Tricks/Hacks books, videos, series for any/all of these cameras. Cool tip, man, thanks, I love the X100T! I sent one of my M6s out for a CLA and rangefinder anti-flare upgrade. Should be getting it back tomorrow. Man, can't wait to shoot with the new viewfinder upgrade - basically an MP anti-flare kit and then coated windows. Have a great week, Ken!

      Werd……its the King of Kool Ted to the V. Im a resource? I know U aint talkin' about me man! The anti-flare upgrade? I dont wanna know what that cost. :)

    The official approach would be: shutter button half press and hold until the moving object is in focus. This is true also in manual focus mode due to the aperture setting. In addition the fast continous shooting mode in the Drive option can be used.

    Thanks for the video and sorry if I am repeating a comment further down the comment line. I struggled to warm up to this camera until I took it away from my eye. So yes I like the idea of eliminating aperture chatter but I did not want to give up viewing from arms length where I think this little camera works best. By using auto iso you eliminate the LCD going dark, sure from time to time an adjustment is needed

    I am surprised that this "trick" is so new to many photographers. Even in the good old DSLR days many of us put AF on the "*"-button, to avoid having the AF hunting when half-pressing the shutter button. Disconnecting AF from the shutter release can be helpful sometimes, in other cases it's better the "normal way". As you prefer ... :-)

    Hey everybody! I was also able to achieve this fix without factory resetting my camera. For me, I just had to turn Face Recognition off. My thinking is in doing so, the camera doesn't need to open up all the way and get light in for finding the face.

    This works on X100S. also when you shoot with strobes, and you shoot more then F2 you need to use this to hit focus else it will hunt forever. This was the missing link to shooting with strobes. You can shoot until you review your photo. Then just press it again to activate.

    My X100s has a unique problem. There is no SAB as I have tested it at all apertures. The Exp/Preview in Man.Mode is ON. Camera and the card has been fully reset and new fFW 2.21 has been installed. The Screen or EVF displays a preview of an intended shot but the final output is (i think 2 stops) over exposed in both JPEG and RAW. no custom sim at all. tried different metering abd shutter speeds and even this method in the video.

  • @acrobaticfish
    @acrobaticfish 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks! What is the purpose of the reset--is that mostly to make sure people following this video start from the same place, or is there some kind of non-user accessible parameter that gets "stuck" somewhere?

    this is really interesting. I had this really slowing me down for years, but only recently did I change to keeping it in Manual focus and using the AEL/AFL and the camera is wa-ay snappier. (this is using locked ISO & aperture with Auto shutter). Might give your trick a try too.

  • @rolandrick
    @rolandrick 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the hint! Works perfect. Do I understand this correct: you can use this only, if focus must not be changed, because it locks everything, also AF-S.

  • @frankyjunior6005

    but if you do that, the focus will be focus in one certain distance right?you have to turn off af-l again then turn on af-l in other focus.

  • @noahginsburg6140
    @noahginsburg6140 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The trick is locking the aperture and the shutter speed in (s)shooting mode? Will this work in full auto, shutter and aperture priority, and full manual?

    because by pressing the switch on is the same as you lock the exposure reading, that's why also the display is black. now the camera will not think how much exposure needed it will not chatter anymore.. just a wild explanation. 😂

    Hi, I actually figured this out on my own when I bought this camera and started digging into all the possibilities. Great feature. Now that I have an XPRO2 as well, I have a question: I did exactly the same on the XPRO and it seems to work just fine! So now the question is : Is there a difference in the way this operates with XPRO just because its not a leaf shutter? Doesn't look any different - I must say....

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      same principle, its doing that to keep feeding sufficient exposure to the EVF
      the aperture of both is closing down, not the leaf shutter on the X100T

    • @martijnkappers3608
      @martijnkappers3608 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great tip, but are you sure it's not doing that for focussing? I guess focussing with the aperture closed is a lot harder for the camera. When you press the afl butten it's still opens the aperture to focus, after that it stays closed, showing you the proper exposure. (with exposure preview on.)

    You say "Chatter", I say "Autofocus". Cameras with PDAF do this because they need more light.
    On X-T1, you can do this and also accomplish the same thing by simply switching to "M" MF mode.

    • @Omar.Alamoudi
      @Omar.Alamoudi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I think it works. Make sure everything is in manual mode, lock exposure, and try to change the aperture using the aperture ring. It worked for me, and I'm glad it does!!

  • @tasoszer
    @tasoszer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is this applicable to the x100s?I own a x100 and it is not happening in low light just bright light and aperture cannot be changed. Does the x100 behave the same way as x100t in this respect?

    • @martijnkappers3608
      @martijnkappers3608 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your question is 4 months old, but anyway. You can see on the screen he's on a shutterspeed of 1/2000th and an aperture of f7.1 sometimes f9 and iso 200. He turned on exposure preview so off course the screen is black. It's very underexposed. If he would expose correctly that's exactly what you would see, a correct exposure.

    • @andriejusradcenko2895
      @andriejusradcenko2895 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, i do understand it now. and actually i did set up my x100t according to the instruction after rewinding it couple times. it's cool! Thanks! ;)

      its necessary to flicker the aperture on mirrorless cameras for AF and other reasons…..it exists for a reason
