I’m extremely grateful to have found your channel and your patience in explaining how to knit. I am a self taught beginner crocheter and knitting was a difficult task to learn, but with this tutorial I think I will try my hand at knitting. Thank you,for your patience and for sharing your time.❤
I just wanted to thank you for your tutorial. I’m a crocheter who wanted to learn to knit. I have tried unsuccessfully for years. You are the only one who explained it in a way I could understand. I just did 30 rows of knit stitch, not one dropped stitch, and minimal screaming. Thank you so much.
Your video about your life and knitting introduced me to you. I learnt to knit many years ago but this method is totally new to me. I had to give up knitting because it hurt my shoulders. Your tutorial is wonderful, maybe I could relearn and use my fingers instead of my self-taught “whole body” movement😅. I have subscribed because, whether it works or not for me, the video is like ASMR!
My aunt Anni tought me how to knit when I was 7. Wonderful memories. 😊 You are a very good teacher, dear Mark! I'm knitting since 42 years now, but I didn't know that there are different ways to cast on, to hold the yarn in the left hand,... Very interesting!
Thank you for this. I am a new knitter with no experience beyond knit and purl. I was curious if i was doing things right and this was a huge help. When you dont know anyone who knits you tend to rely on content creators like you to show us the way. Thanks again.
I'm so glad I found your videos. I've been knitting for decades and consider myself a fairly advanced knitter. However, I often listen to knitting intros to find small details that somehow never registered before. Today I learned the meaning of wpi!! Thank you so much - I love your teaching style 😊
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch! I've never really used the WPI test, but I'm sure it will come in handy when working with scraps and partial skeins long missing their labels!
Seeing you knit Continental style but with a closed hand style as well, inspired me to try learning this again. So many people demonstrate continental style with an open hand style and I can’t do that as it just doesn’t come naturally to me to have my fingers so far from the needles. I watched Roxanne Richardson demonstrate both open and closed hand styles but she is naturally an open hand style knitter so it didn’t really click for me watching her demonstration on closed hand continental- but you do it so naturally that I felt inspired and thought I would have a go and I can see that I can do it! Yay!
I LOVE that! I didn't know the terms closed hand vs open hand style, but that makes total sense. I often think how difficult it would be for me to keep the working yarn further away from the needle tips. This way is definitely the most comfortable and natural for me!
I cant tell you how much I have enjoyed your videos - as a new knitter, this has been wonderful, have loved being on your group from the beginning - so many needed things, like yarn types - Major - Keep up the good work and thanks for being here for us beginners🥳
Yes, continental style here! I find it more comfortable for my hands. I'm so sorry for the delay in responding; I'm still learning to navigate notifications on TH-cam!
I love your videos! My knitting looks backwards to yours. I go in the same way but wrap with my right hand. Your way seems so backwards to me but looks more efficient. I started watching videos on you tube and so many are doing it the same way you do! I am going to try it soon. The purl stitch looks especially different!😅
Yes, I knit the in the continental style. The "opposite" to that is the English style, which sounds like your way of knitting! Sometimes people feel that one way or the other is faster for themselves, but it's most important that you knit in a way that feels good and makes sense to you! There are SO many ways to go about holding our needles, yarn, and even making our stitches. :) Thank you for watching!
Great video. I have not heard the term yarn over used when creating knit a purl stitches. I will be interested in how that differs from the term yarn over that I am used to for creating lace patterns.
I'm left handed! And it makes the most sense if you can learn things as a right hander would do. Some people reverse the process of knitting, but it can really complicate things if you ever want to follow patterns, etc. In knitting we use both hands to create the motions, so it's almost an ambidextrous art! All of that to say, try things the way I'm showing them here. And if you really feel like reversing them in the future, you could give that a try 😊

We’re in the same boat. I’m a YT university crochet student and found this channel. His gorgeous sweaters make me want to knit too

Wow, that's amazing! I'm so proud of you and excited for your knitting journey. 😁

Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and leave your feedback! Keep on knitting 😁
You're a great teacher -- thank you! Funny, though -- "sit down for 5-10 minutes" turns into 4 hours (or more!!). Hahaha.

Mark! I understand cast on! It took 60 years and You! Now I shall become a baby knitter! I'm so excited. Thank you.
Great video, wish you were around when I was learning. It is still helpful though to see all the steps slowed down in detail!
You're so kind, Paula. Thank you for watching!

Thank you for watching! I can't tell you how much that feedback means to me 😁
You did a great job of demonstrating knits and purls. I really liked your attention to the rhythm of both stitches.
Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate the feedback 😃
Thank you. Very clear. To confirm though. This is Continental?

Hi, I just love your knitting technique. It was great to see how you do the basics and I can definitely refine my style.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch! Happy knitting 😁
Thank you. Super helpful
excellent tutorial~ thank you!

Thank you for watching! It's the same motion so it gets the same name! Have a great week 😊
Why knitting needles don't have hooks at the end, stitches slip easily 😢
Would this be the same process for a left hander, or would I be better if I reversed your process??

@@MakerMarkKnits Thank you so much, and I really appreciate how easy it was to follow your video. Looking forward to learning more.....
I crochet, cause I never got the touch of knitting.
Usually people have a firm favorite! I'm so glad you're a crocheter 😁
