Don't forget you can create "bundles" in favorites. I have bundles of each category "socks" "sweaters" "tops" "shawls" etc. Makes it easy to fave many many things but to find them again much easier.
Thank you. I found that extremely helpful. You explained everything very calmly, very clearly and very explicitly. I’m off too look at my Ravelry account. I shall be looking at it in a more detailed way now as I have only been skimming the surface before.
This was fantastic. I am president of my local knitting guild, and was thinking about coming up with a presentation on Ravelry for a future meeting. This is much better than anything I could have put together, so I hope you don’t mind that I am sharing it with my guild members. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
@@MakerMarkKnits we are in Fresno, California, in the Central Valley. 10-11 months out of the year it is too warm here to wear a sweater. Well, I can wear them early in the morning on my dog walks, because we generally have a 25 to 30 degree temperature swing from morning to afternoon. We moved here twelve years ago from the northeast (I’m a New Yorker ) for my husband’s job, and I canNOT wait to move out of here to a place with four real seasons including autumn and winter. I just have to hang in for…three more years until he retires. I’m new to your channel and have been bingeing your videos and really enjoying them. Your joy in your crafting is so palpable.
This is awesome! I have been using Ravelry for years and this has been a complete revelation - thank you. I also picked up a few new patterns on the way from your searches and favourites - including one I had seen and wanted that was in your video intro pastiche. LOL!
I have been searching in Ravelry all wrong. I did it your way and found the absolute perfect knitted top down easy free cardigan pattern for some special yarn in my stash. Thank you!!!
I have been a member on Ravelry for years and have purchased or downloaded many patterns but have never explored the site fully. This was a brilliant and something I would not have thought about searching for. Since I recently subscribed to your channel though it just came up on my feed. Thanks so much for making this video.
Love, ravelry, especially the stash part as I inherited an estate of hoarders yarn so I went through all of it and inventoried it on revelry so that now I can just look and get what I want. As I didn’t buy it, it’s hard to remember what’s there. As there was so much, I also gifted quite a bit to another knitter I know.
In all the years I have been using Ravelry I never understood how to make the best use of the Yarn section. When you said "if you've lost your ball band you can find a yarn's properties there. Yea! That's a big help. Thanks for this episode.
I have only ever used Ravelry for purchasing patterns. I’m very interested in the stash & tools now that you’ve walked me through it! This was very useful!
What a helpful video for folks new to Ravelry. I've been using it almost since its inception so quite familiar. One feature I really love (and used just a couple of days ago), is the ability to search patterns by gauge. Go to "Jump to a Filter" then scroll down to "Additional filters (not found on sidebar). There you can input the exact gauge you want to knit by or a range. I recently ordered yarn for a pattern and then could not for the life of me get gauge (in a fabric I liked). I decided which gauge made a fabric I wanted and then searched patterns according to that. Another feature that's handy is when looking at patterns you'll see three little dots below the bottom right of the picture. I've used that to filter out designers I don't want to see. (In my case the designer Drops since they seem to be confusing patterns to many and I don't want to waste my time with them.) Really am enjoying your videos. Just found you recently.
Thank you so much for this very informative tutorial. I use Ravelry but have wanted to have access to some sort of tutorial to make better use of it, and you’ve done that for me today. Many thanks!
Thank you! I only go there to purchase patterns that I already know the names of! I knew there was more to it, but never took the time to try to figure it out!
I use Ravelry daily as my database. I am diligent to capture date started and finished, yarn, needles and of course patterns. Love the search and filters and favorites and budlndles...
I’ve been on Ravelry since it was in beta testing and I was a brand new knitter. I learned so much from you and the comments. I definitely haven’t taken full advantage of the site. Thank you all!
There's so many patterns I want to buy in Revelry but I live in the Netherlands now (so outside of the US) and PayPal (or even a credit card) is simply a no go for me. I tried going into the pattern sites directly and they too use PayPal or credit card so there's that. The EU have a lot of restrictions when it comes to data and privacy so since moving here I stay away from sites such as PayPal, ebay etc because I simply don't want to deal with the nightmares that can happen due to PayPal. Also, I don't do credit cards because debit card is the way to go in these parts with iDeal... I use iDeal for everything when purchasing online... Love it!
Hi Mark ,sorry I’ve not commented lately, have unexpectedly bought a new house with my husband and it’s chaos here in my corner of England 🤣. Your videos are so calming and are my favourite Saturday morning viewing! Loving seeing all your fur babies along with your other content ❤️. Fabulous overview of Ravelry, thank you. Much love to you and your husband and cat family as always, take care and looking forward to the next video 🥰, Pippa xxx
Thank you Mark! I have always felt overwhelmed when looking at ravelry. Thank you so much for this guide- now I need to get over to ravelry and look around. I especially like the tips about road trips and events. I don't think I have ever looked at the boxes on the lower left!
There are so many ways to use Ravelry. As evidenced in this video, I don't make use of many of them...but one day I might take the time to really make the most of it!
Thank you for taking the time to navigate and teach us with clear explanations how to use Ravelry. I do use this tool a lot and it is becoming quite addictive. Once you enter this site, it is hard to stop navigating! I use almost all of the features you explained and I do not have any others to add. I wanted in any case t thank you for showing how to use this incredible and very helpful site with such clarity. Happy knitting!
Wow , Thank you , I can see how this could be a rabbit hole . :D I would definitely need some time to transfer / set something up. Perhaps an entire day alone. Good idea might be to include the word RAVELRY in search engine if designer's webpage doesn't pop up. Just in case IF (no LYS) I am ever going to be out , I always keep my little notebook with my knitting /satchel /bag , so I don't have to depend on finding an internet connection. Great episode , informative.
Thank you for watching! I agree, it would take quite some time to input all of your projects, let alone one's stash and tools. It sounds like you have a good system to keep track of things as you shop!
Thank you. This was so informative. I never really look at this site because it can be overwhelming. I am planning on using some of your tips and learning to enjoy it.
I felt the same way when I started knitting. I was just so overwhelmed with the site and didn't really know how to navigate it in helpful way. I hope that you are able to find great patterns and ideas in the future 🙂
Hi. New to your channel. This video was Very helpful. I’m just returning to knitting after many years and I downloaded the Ravelry app but really haven’t used it yet. Truthfully it looked intimidating so I just basically have been concentrating on my projects. But your information here was very informative. Thanks!
Wow! This was soooo helpful. I use ravelry all the time for purchasing patterns, but I usually look up the pattern by name. I have rarely played with all those search options. As a 'tech challenged' retiree I would love to get a little more detail on how to post pictures of my projects. I've never added any of my projects to ravelry cause I can't figure out how to get the pictures from my phone onto ravelry. (This from the person who only very recently figured out how to post something on Instagram without a younger friend's help.) I like your thorough, patient style!
Getting pictures from your phone to a website can definitely be tricky! You can access all of the features I showed in this video through a web browser on your phone. I think that's the best place to upload your pictures. Play around with visiting the various tabs from your phone browser...and eventually when you're ready to post some pictures, it will be a much more direct approach to do so from your phone's internet browser!
Great episode!! Thank You so much!!! I shared with my daughters. Even though I’ve been using Ravelry for several years I knew there were things I didn’t know. This helped to expand my knowledge of the site and will definitely change how I use it. Thanks again!!!
If a pattern is only available in a book, you can see if your local public library has a copy, borrow it as often as you want, and maybe photocopy the relevant pages. So I wanted to make Henry the 7th from the first edition of Starmore's _Tudor Roses._ She does not publish it anywhere else and I couldn't afford the crazy prices for 2nd hand copies (which she wasn't going to get money from anyway). I found a copy in the city next door's library, so I borrowed it a couple of times and copied the graph to take around with me. Colored the photocopy with my colored pencils so the crisscross pattern stands out, then layered mailing tape over it to make it sturdy.
When planing a garment for myself , and searching through the patterns , I look through the projects that have been knitted with a pattern that I am considering . I can be described as short and round! So I try to find a photo of someone with the same type of figure who knitted this specific pattern. This has saved me many mistakes….
@@jayneterry8701 With Ravelry's comprehensiveness? I don't _think_ so. At least I've not heard rumor of one. There are a ton of quilting groups on line, of course. I'm a member of an online guild, a rav quilt group, and several FB quilt groups.

Oh yes! I haven't taken the time to do that -- but what a GREAT feature! Thank you for sharing it here ☺️
A helpful video, thank you! I just have to say: your voice is so calm and clear, you could most likely make a living as an audiobook narrator 😂❤
You're too kind! I would LOVE that job.

I LOVE Ravelry. It is the heartbeat of any fiber artist. Thanks for explaining how this powerful program helps us out.
That's the perfect way to describe it, the heartbeat of a fiber artist!
I love the Notebook tab. I use it all
Wonderful!
Thank you. I found that extremely helpful. You explained everything very calmly, very clearly and very explicitly. I’m off too look at my Ravelry account. I shall be looking at it in a more detailed way now as I have only been skimming the surface before.
PS the road trip planner is a game changer ! :D
I'm excited to make more use of that tool on my future trips!
I got into your video so much that I tried to scroll your screen 🤭🤷🏼♀️ I use Ravelry every day, and I use Ravit for a fun search on my cell phone.
@@MakerMarkKnits Make sure you double check that the shop is still open. They're not always totally up to date. :)
