Hi guys! Aldo from Italy here, just wanted to add info and context on the Italian organization: There is an effort that the federation is making to organize more hard court competitions and you can see it on the players skills: most of the young italians are not clay specialists like the spanish or the south american ones, you just have to look at how versatile the game of people like Arnaldi or Cobolli is. Apart from the 15+ challengers we do every year, there are a stable run of futures in Sardinia (not a bad place to spend three or four weeks) and we often send people in Tunisia, where they organize a run in Monastir that is stable for most of the year. It is a shame that we lost the occasion to start organizing some ATP 250 too, we had two in covid era, when China had a ban, but we blew it with the disaster made in Naples (that is actually my city and this year made one hell of a good job organizing a 125 challenger, almost sold out in tickets).
Contrary to the statement that Federer, Serena, and Sinner are the only players never to lose in straight sets in a season, Martina Navratilova went 90-3 in 1982, 86-1 in 1983, and 78-2 in 1984, and none of her losses in 3 straight years were in straight sets. Steffi Graf did this in 1989 when she went 86-2. Chris Evert did it in 1978 when she went 56-3.
John is right. I'm currently playing an ITF seniors event in Spain and met Andy's mom here. The word among the UK contingency here is that Andy is as good a tactician as his mom. He can analyze another player's game and figure out a tactical plan against that player. Novak needs that edge against the Alcaraz and Sinner types. That said, it's a hail-mary! The physicality of it cannot be escaped. Time wins. Novak loses.
Steffi Graf was 86-2 in 1989. The 2 matches she lost were to Sanchez (Roland Garros) 7-6(6) 3-6 7-5 and Sabatini (Amelia Island) 3-6 6-3 7-5. Therefore Producer Mike's comment on Sinner being the 3rd person to have not lost a match in straight set was incorrect. Hope you can mention this in the next episode, thank you!
The announcement from Djokovic/Murray was more exciting than the DC for many people, Much more exciting,, It got over 3 million views on X within 2 days,, Rafa has been talking about retirement all year,,, the fizz went out of it when he didnt retire at RG where they were ready to give him a wonderful send off, . Novak and Andy were due to fly in on the Friday for him but Spain lost early.
You dont have to lie here as if you know these players. In Spain it was reported Novak was in Spain on the day of the 19th. Marca reported that he would attend IF Spain qualifies and plays at weekend. There was and is attention on Rafa. Briefly adding to what Andy said about Jannik popularity in Italy. He is 101% on the money. Jannik in Italy is basically THE sport god. Nobody is more ideolazed than him among the kids that are into sports. Way, way above soccer players. Which is insane. So yeah its going to be a chain reaction.
Very curious about this addition to the Djokovic team, although I believe the difference will be made by the physical resistance of a thirty-eight year old in the best of 5 sets. Congratulations to Rafa for the wonderful career he has had and above all for the good person he is, precisely for this reason he deserved a less kamikaze retreat than the one chosen by the Spanish team, better a party with an exhibition and friends. Jannik Sinner is currently the most followed sportsman and the most famous person in Italy, registrations for tennis courses today have reached 1,000,000 new members compared to 1,300,000 for football, it's incredible. TV ratings are skyrocketing. In addition to the reasons you mentioned, I believe that the secret of the success of the two Italian teams is also given by the fact that there is a good climate and we know how to work as a team. I haven't seen the same thing in other teams. We are also very good in other sports, in the Olympic medal table we finished ninth ahead of Germany with 40 medals including 12 gold (volleyball, swimming, fencing, sailing, judo, athletics,...). We are only in 60 milions, Germany 85 milions. I would add that other very popular sports in Italy are Formula 1 with Ferrari and MotoGP with Ducati, but tennis is now second only to football. But very close.
Andy, stop excusing yourself for comparing yourself to the greatest. If there's one person who's entitled to compare himself to the greatest is you. You know what it is to be at the top. the pressure, the difficulties, the joy, all the little things that only top players know. Your knowledge is more than welcome.
This!! He should give himself more credit than he does. He won a Slam, reached even more Slam finals and he was world number one. Not many players can say they achieved that.

In his only six defeats this year, Sinner lost in the deciding set (either the third or fifth set). This has never happened before in the history of men's tennis.
Welcome back, JW. Hopefully this sends a message that "cancel culture" has been replaced with "reasonable culture" and "sensible culture," where we accurately measure and acknowledge wrongs, but we also acknowledge bodies of work. Well done.
And if you have a look at his wife he really shouldn't be commenting on the appearance of other women. It wasn't his first offence but hopefully the last.
It's not that "cancel culture has been replaced." It's that what JW said wasn't really that bad, and everybody naturally just moved on. Cancel culture isn't really a thing in the first place. People react in proportion to the severity of the act. JW said something he shouldn't have said, but most people realize there was no real harm done and JW was truly contrite.
@DaggerMan11 It has been a thing, and people often don't react proportional to the matter at hand. That has been the problem. Btw, he still hasn't been back on Tennis Channel.
Novak timing was meant to steal Sinner's thunder... He is never happy about someone else shinning. The proof is that you didn't talk about Italy winning the Davis Cup back to back until the 34th minutes. You spent 25 minutes talking about Novak If Sinner is not at the AO, i am not watching tennis until he comes back
Trust me, Novak doesn't give a sht. He's 100× bigger than Sinner so he wouldn't give a sht about Sinner helping Italy to win Davis cup. Tell me, when did Novak take his spotlight in AO this year? Or US-open? Or ATP Finals? See how dumb you sound now😂?
This is entirely a 'help me beat Sinner/Alcaraz'. Prime Murray was obviously better than Sinner and Alcaraz - he believed that fit he could beat them. This is Novak wringing the very last drops out and a mission to prove that the Big 4 were simply better than everyone else - even now
Well if the GOAT is trying everything he can to protect his and his peer’s legacy, isn’t he doing the right thing? I would. With this snowflake new gens complaining about “how long the tour is”, or “things that need to be changed”.
Great point on Andy being a great source for Novak in regards to bouncing off “I’ve tried this” ideas. Not sure how much it would have been worth but I thought Andy was set with a life partnership with Head, and he very quickly and out of pocket switched to Yonex Ezones just to see if he could find something, so I can absolutely see the value there. Wonderful words for Rafa, and absolutely my experience too in regards to having it be a talking point in random spots. Went to hear a guest speaker our kids school brought, he opens with mentioning how Rafa was retiring, how his uncle shaped him and went from there. Great episode, and thanks to Andy for teaching us to never say sorry for hitting a winner.
The only one who is creating a storm here that is upsetting people is precisely Roddick with his ridiculous attitude. What is he trying to defend? The only thing he is letting on is his overflowing love for Nadal or his bad intention of trying to tarnish the reputation of someone who does not deserve that attack. Simply stupid.
Novak didn’t win a single tournament except the Olympics in 2024, he dumped his whole team, he’s 38. This hiring of Andy seems more significant a move to me. Can they make it work? Will be interesting to watch-I can’t picture Andy putting up with Novak’s verbal abuse though. Maybe in Serbian it will get a pass?
What a week. Rafa, Nole, Andy, BJK and Davis Cup - I was expecting this to be about 2hrs long! Master stroke by Nole getting AM onboard. The difference between the two of them is going to be the amalgamation now and the current top 5 should take notice. We'll see next year if Nole still has the legs for 7 matches over 2 weeks but if he has, AO is the place to do it...
Disagree with Roddick. Even Novak can improve technique wise. Before 2017 Novak was clearly the best! However his serve’s motion has wrong. Hence why he injured his elbow. Look into his serve before 2017 and then after he came after the surgery. It’s a different motion. Moreover, when he added Ivanisevic into his box, the Croatian taught him how to improve his serve. Today Novak’s serve is an asset, as opposed to 10 years ago in which it wasn’t. He has improved his forehand too. He can improve his forehand dropshot. He can practice footwork, speed, sprints, and many more things. Murray can “teach” or assist him in these topics. Also he can pinpoint week spots that Alcaraz and sinner have and suggest Novak to take advantage of these week spots.
Sinner's not in AO would reduce my interest by 80% because he's the real threat. If he's not there, I will think Novak wins because Sinner isn't there and I think many will think the same.
@Adaobieistyping righto, regardless of circumstances, amount of fault, or anything else right? And not only do you think they should automatically have a ban but you think they actively 'deserve' regardless of whether they are guilty of wrongdoing or not? Well thank God you aren't in charge of the proceedings and I hope you never find yourself in a situation where you fall foul of the rules through no fault of your own.
@@joannemoore3976 yes everyone deserves a ban if you fail a drug test. Of course the length depends on the amount taken. A ban is an acknowledgment of negligence. In sinner’s case, his physio was negligent. Why else did sinner fire him? And because an athlete is a summation of their team, sinner has to take a small ban. Don’t worry anyways as they’ll put it in a meaningless part of the season for golden boy
Guys, it's true we are having the best generation of tennis but in the same time we are having the least talented geneartion in football (soccer).. I mean, I don't know how much a nation can work on it, it seem more a God gifted thing.
Andy needs to get a life! He is incredibly judgmental. Has an opinion about everything that happens. Who cares? Is there anything else you can do to stay relevant but stop criticizing others. I realize it is the job, but it speaks a lot more about who he is. First 10 minutes is full of rambling and no idea what he was talking about. Can you imagine any of the greatest players in a show talking about others decisions. Murray is coaching Djokovic, so what?
You guys just can't compliment Sinner without mentioning Carlos, which I find so offensive. Sinner was also injured a lot this year as you should recall if you know your tennis.
Italian tennis federation also created a free TV channel to spread tennis to as many people as possible

@@aboukirman3508really? Gonna have to check her out 😂😂 I guess she's not an eight-head, lucky him! 😂 That dude should not be commenting.
@@creativestudio101She ain't no supermodel!!!😂
@@aboukirman3508 i see that now - but weird, my original comment got deleted. Weird
@creativestudio101 Most of my comments have been deleted...so much for free speech...can dish it out but can't take it!!!😂
Novak timing was meant to steal Sinner's thunder... He is never happy about someone else shinning. The proof is that you didn't talk about Italy winning the Davis Cup back to back until the 34th minutes. You spent 25 minutes talking about Novak
If Sinner is not at the AO, i am not watching tennis until he comes back
Trust me, Novak doesn't give a sht. He's 100× bigger than Sinner so he wouldn't give a sht about Sinner helping Italy to win Davis cup. Tell me, when did Novak take his spotlight in AO this year? Or US-open? Or ATP Finals? See how dumb you sound now😂?
Good riddance
From Rome,Italy.I love your podcast. Just 1 thought. Murray can't stop the time. that's all. bye
Exactly, he couldn't stop it for himself, he can't stop it for Novak
Murray-Djokovic. It seems more like a goliardic bet between friends.
I wonder which of the two lost the bet and now has to do this for penance...😁😁
Hey, it's just fine--really it's fine--
This is entirely a 'help me beat Sinner/Alcaraz'.
Pathetic of Novak to overshadow Nadal’s retirement, what he couldn’t have made the announcement 1 week later out of respect, he has none
Inferiority complex
Thought you were starring as a stand in Stifler for the next American Pie Movie ???? Love the show, all the best from Bonny Scotland !
Djokovic about to develop a SABN (sneak attack by Novak)
You're just jealous of Novak Djokovic. Andy is the puzzle that missing in Novak's environment right now.
As for AO take Sinner from equation (absence / suprise lost) and Nole automaticaly is favorite for winning Slam.
Will Andy be in more films, maybe in a sequel to Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach?! ☺️
What is Kim C.'s opinion on Djokovic being trained by Murray?
someone is back from suspension
Jon Wertheim back? Yeah, not watching anymore then...
Everyone will hate Novak more after the first yelling and lack of respect against Andy...
Who do you think I am? Barbora Krejikova?
He apologized and she accepted but privately and publicly.
Not funny. Move on.
@@lornawilliams550 clearly Jon Wertheim thought it was funny, that's why he said it
Murray/Djokovic....it's like when Martina hired Billie Jean in 1988 to take on Steffi and get that 9th Wimbledon.
The difference is Martina & BJK are not from same generation, BJK is 13 years older than Martina but Djokovic & Murray were born a week apart.
@@rajusaha855 but they played multiple times and were doubles partners for several years.
@DouglasMcCulley yeah agree but there is a age difference of 13 & they are not in the same generation.
@@rajusaha855 I'll never try again.
Joke
MURKOVIC 2025!!!
Sinner's not in AO would reduce my interest by 80% because he's the real threat. If he's not there, I will think Novak wins because Sinner isn't there and I think many will think the same.
Sinner is in real danger of getting banned but the timing of CAS verdict is still not clear so by chance if it happens in Feb Sinner may play AO .
I would love to see Carlos Alcaraz coached by a ham sandwich. 😆 Loved this
If Sinner really gets banned I wont watch tennis anymore. They cant be serious with this sht
It does seem totally ridiculous. I think CAS are generally fair so we'll see.
same here. I would lose completely trust and respect for the international tennis federation. First thing I would cancel my TennisTv membership
everyone who fails a drug test deserves a ban
Very happy JW is back. Just noticed his forehead is so big😁
Portmanteau ideas: Djokurray!
Jon Wertheim is back!
So happy to see Jon back! 😊
Omg, does Roddick ever stop for a breath!!!😮
You guys just can't compliment Sinner without mentioning Carlos, which I find so offensive. Sinner was also injured a lot this year as you should recall if you know your tennis.
You gotta learn to be more competitive Andy LUL
Murrole
Glad you’re back Jon! Cancel culture bubye!👋
