When Mark Twain visited the territory of Palestine in 1867, he said:
"[a] desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds - a silent mournful expanse... A desolation is here that not even imagination can grace with the pomp of life and action... We never saw a HUMAN BEING on the whole route... There was HARDLY a tree or a shrub ANYWHERE. Even the olive and the cactus, those fast friends of the worthless soil, had almost deserted the country."
The Peel Commission of 1937 found Arab complaints about Jewish land acquisition were baseless. It pointed out that "much of the land now carrying orange groves was sand dunes or swamp and uncultivated when it was purchased...there was at the time of the earlier sales little evidence that the owners possessed either the resources or training needed to develop the land."
Moreover, the Commission found the shortage was "due less to the amount of land acquired by Jews than to the increase in the Arab population" due not to birthrates, but the massive immigration of migrant workers from Egypt, Syria, Transjordan and Lebanon and elsewhere.
In 1937, local Arab leader Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi told the Commission, which ultimately suggested the partition of the Palestinian Mandate: "There is no such country [as Palestine]! 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria."
The representative of the Arab Higher Committee to the UN submitted a statement to the General Assembly in May 1947 that said, "Palestine was part of the Province of Syria" and that "politically, the Arabs of Palestine were not independent in the sense of forming a separate political entity."
A few years later, Ahmed Shuqeiri, later the chairman of the PLO, told the Security Council: "It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but southern Syria."
If the local population were wronged after being told by the 5 Arab armies to leave their homes, and return later after they massacre the Jews in Israel, how come they weren't given their political independence by Egypt and Jordan which respectively occupied Gaza and the Jordanian West Bank for 19 years?
Why did only Britain and Pakistan recognize Jordan's annexation of the West bank in 1949?
How come no Arab leader even visited Jerusalem for the 19 years Jordan occupied it?
Why was the Palestinian Liberation Organization founded in 1964, 3 full years before the Six-Day War? Their targets weren't in Jordan, they were in Israel as their Charter to THIS DAY clearly states (a charter in direct violation of the Oslo Accords)?
If Arabs are all brothers, and every human life is essential and valuable, why didn't anyone do the humanitarian thing and let them immigrate to one of the TWENTY-TWO Arab-Muslim states in the world to become a citizen?
A targeted, sustained de-legitimization campaign against Israel has been going on now for over 65 years.

There's already a neo nazi state, It's called israel.
In case you didn't uderstand, state practitioners of genocide, are nazis. And don't give us the crap about the common useage definition of genocide. Genocide, in case you didn't understand, is a crime. As such, its definition is to be found in a dictionary of legal terms, or on the website of the International Criminal Court

    • @yosefkutner2226

John Somebody Nazi means "genocidal antisemite". Of course that's very rare to find among Jews. But very common in Arab countries where antisemitism is endemic, above the 80% level. John Nobody is probably from there.

To those calling begin a terrorist, keep in mind that in israel he is revered as a war hero of the war of independence. In America we have the same thing. One of the reasons jfk was elected was because he was a war hero. And to those assholes who will give me the terrorism not war argument, two words. American Revolution.

    • @shaneturner500
      @shaneturner500 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

if you lived at the time of the american revolution, people would have pegged you a tory. thomas jefferson said, "the tree of liberty must occasionally be fertilized be the blood of patriots and tyrants." of, course, a person like you would misunderstand that and not realize what he means. what he means exactly is that desperate times call for desperate measures. at times you need to fight for what is yours.at times you even have to kill for them. but only during those times.
but go ahead with your frame of mind that the irgun was the same as the current islamist terrorist, while in reality the irgun was unique in the act of sending a warning before every bombing, while in israel, a terrorist would bomb right out of nowhere. also, israel was and is willing to negotiate with the palestinians, while britain has a deep history of holding on strongly to their empire.

***** Against what? They were the attacking force... Anyway,I genuinely am not here for an argument. I have been researching the issue of Palestine/Israel for a few years as I have family in both camps and really do hope for a better way forward. I dont know how of course (else I would be winning the Nobel PP) however what I do know is that both parties have acted both as terrorists and freedom fighters at different stages. Perhaps the one thing I can say today, is that continuation of the settlements will continue invoking murders. There should be a point where one can say they have enough, being too greedy will not work.

The suffering of the of the Jews in Europe from the 1880s-1940s does not justify the current ill treatment of people descended from the Ottoman-ruled Palestine who have known no other home. If Catholic Mexicans used massive waves of settlements to take over Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California, seceded from the Union, and refused rights to the Americans remaining in "their" borders, how would you would react? I know militant Islamic states and state-sponsored terrorists in the region have a history of attacking Israel. That's one piece of the problem. It's not the underlying issue.
There are ways to become more humane to all people living in the region without compromising the security of a nation. There are ways to divorce religiosity from governance to create a platform that earns a mandate from all the people who call a slab of ground home. And it is possible to reject fear created by generations of persecution and govern with an open heart. I hope Israel -- both Jewish and non-jewish -- becomes a nation of all the people, not just the ones currently holding power.

    • @mightyoak11111
      @mightyoak11111 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Israel has been and already is a nation of "all the people". It has welcomed and absorbed immigrants from all over the world. It is a democracy, too, that also protects its minority communities. Arabs and Jews work, shop, and play side by side. Arabs are represented and hold high positions in the Supreme Court and Parliament. There also Arabs in the military. Can you show me a neighboring Arab country that can make the same claims with regard to Jews or Israelis? Israel has its problems like any civilized society including ours but I believe, and the facts support that Israel is probably one of the most humane societies in existence today.

    • @RichardGMoss

The big problem that will eventually catch up to Israel is that if there is no Palestinian State, then Israel will have no choice but to become a single, bi-National state, with Palestinians having the same legal rights as Israeli citizens. Is this REALLY what Israel wants? The situation as it is now cannot be sustained forever. Just ask former rulers of apartheid-era South Africa.

      2. Jews being victims of people, (terrorists or not), who do what they do, BECAUSE, neo - nazis have been terrorising them, does not diminish the fact, that zionist neo - nazis have been terrorising them, ever since invading Palestine.
      3. Hamas created the Hamas Charter, after 30 YEARS of zionist neo - nazi genocidal war, ahgainst a cvilian population, WITHOUT Hamas. And Hamas were then created, with encouragement, and at first, funding, by israel, in order to undermine the PLO.

The land belongs to the Jewish people. When two parties to a dispute come to court to settle their difference, the first words out of the judge's mouth are, "let's start from the beginning," and "present any evidence(s) you have."
The earliest mention of the Holy Land as Palestine (probably in reference to the Philistines, a non-Arabic, non-Semitic people from the Greek Isles who invaded the southern coast of the Holy Land in the 2nd half of the 12th Cen. BCE) is by the Greek historian, Herodotus (5th Cen. BCE).
In contrast, one of the earliest mention of the Holy Land as Israel is the 9th Cen. BCE archaeological find the Mesha Stele commissioned by the king of Moab (present-day Jordan) which mentions Israel and a king of Israel, namely, Omri. (The Mesha Stele aka Moabite Stone is housed at The Louvre in Paris, France.)
The claim that the land belongs to the "Palestinians" should be reflected in the archaeological records. Can someone cite one archaeological evidence for the "Palestinian?"

the historic argument wouldn't be accepted by any court and certainly not under international law. whole peoples have always changed their settlements within the last 2000 years without being able to reclaim land.

@@nightwish1000 In that case, indigenous rights are null and void. I disagree with your logic, not to mention that the Jewish home was colonized and then most of the Jews were forcibly exiled. In other words, we didn't move around, we were kicked out of our own land where we became a people 3300 years ago.

Mr Begin seems to forget in his maybe emotionally understandable antigerman stance that Israel would have hardly existed at this time without early German support that he opposed so vividly.

Ridiculous. Nobody's sending Palestinians to death camps. There are no mass graves. Their population is growing. There are more Palestinian citizens of Israel today, than even existed in 1948. You need a history lesson.

Stuart Einbinder Irwin Graulich Dear both, putting aside the typical emotive and irrational commentary from Irwin as usual (!), Stuart your question is sensible. The answer is here www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/04/mass-graves-jaffa-israel-palestine-1948_n_3385011.html. But apart from that, we know and papers exist that Israel has committed War Crimes, we know the massacres fof 46 of the indigenous population at the time by the incoming Europeans etc... That however is history. More importantly, I honestly think Israel is its own worst enemy. It can progres but there is a limit, a better solution is required. And finally, yes, the victim has become the aggressor and that is a real shame.

Bazzi Seventyeight boom. perfectly consistent with what israeli founding father matityahu peled , his son, general M. Peled and his nephew Miko Peled are telling us, without even being heard.
to all who really support the israeli government, watch some speeches of miko peled, then consider for yourself. there are enough of him on youtube.
btw. it really doesnt even matter if there where death or working camps. the palestinian struggle began what is known as the nakba, and the nakba did not end up until today. the people do suffer. some more, some less, some much more, inside and oustide of israel. this is nothing that can be supported.
