5:25 This scene is very fascinating. French navy was still quite formidable at that time. This was the last great fleet that Louis XVI could send. Royal navy was tricked and they were mistakenly blocking another French port. This navy will get destroyed upon return to France, and France would go through French revolution because Louis XVI had bankrupted France in a bid to build another navy.
What is really funny about all of this, is the fact that the British General tried to surrender to the French, who refused to accept and forced him to go surrender to George Washington. It really wounded British pride to surrender to the Americans.
Was basically British people having to surrender to other British people who did not want to be British anymore. British civil war going on as it was British territory at the time. Think I would also have tried to surrender to the French. The French know about that sort of thing.
If it was not for the French you mean? If not for the French the Americans (mostly ex British) would be using their guns as clubs as 90% of gunpowder came from the French.
@@hogganknowsbest Oh don't get me wrong, I am forever grateful to France for their invaluable help in our fight. I honor their sacrifices and am glad my grandpa went over there last century to liberate them. And they're good cooks too.
@sid2112 it was fortunate timing for the "Americans" how it all came about because a few decades later Britain was all powerful having finally dealt with the French at home. Too many fronts for the British to fight on during that time. Plus, that is one hell of a supply line to keep going in the 1700s. All men, materials that were spare being sent to the colonies, over 3,000 miles away. At the time this would have been a 25-30 day voyage. It would have been a 2 month round trip to take a message and get a reply.

Because Red, White and Blue are the true colours of freedom. Look how many countries are left with Red, White and Blue as their countries colours on their flag. Canada was the last to lose them and what's happening there now?
@@alec2726 even countries with red, white and blue flags are dealing with problems and freedom/rights infringements/tyranny including the United States. You are saying the crap in Canada that is going on is all because of a flag change from the red ensign. There is more than meets the eye, meaning there is more to a situation than what you are perceiving to be true. Red, white and blue are the colors of freedom but it would be meaningless if the colors of freedom are not upheld whether a countries flag has those colors or not. Quite frankly even countries without those red, white and blue flag colors can have freedom.
