Bahamas Tourist Boat Sinks in Rough Water

- It was supposed to be a simple tourist ferry ride to Blue Lagoon Island in the Bahamas. But the excursion turned tragic as a double-decker tourist boat took on water in rough seas. The craft tilted sideways and began to sink, as terrified passengers donned orange life jackets and jumped overboard. Nearby boats rescued those passengers. One American died in the ordeal, and two other people were taken to a hospital.
OMG, that poor elderly lady who died... just awful!! Hope the other two that were injured make a full recovery!

Agree it’s clear warm water probably have life vests, just need to float and wait. It’s not titanic with ice cold waters..
People who panic in times of crisis scare me more than drowning at times.
Yeah well you gotta remember some of them can’t swim so that makes it terrifying for them. Look at the end there is a black family absolutely panicking laying on the floor. They have no idea what to do and they think they’re gona drown. I’m a capt btw. This would suck so bad. I’ve had boat failures at sea but never taken on water.

@@longsleevethong1457@ longsleevethong1457 People should learn a valuable skill like swimming before getting on a boat. Going on a plane without knowing how to skydive has been the basics. Preparing yourself at some basic level of the what-ifs goes a long way and helps lower panic. My Uncle is also a captain and works on giant boats and Billion-dollar yats. He loves the job and has yet to have a boat sink. And this is out in Mexico. My father also works on boats for Disney. Learning to swim can take a solid 2 hours, even if you fear swimming. It can be done, and I have taught many young men how to swim. One man was from Africa and had concerns because of his brother's drowning. After 2 hours, he could go in whirlpools with no issues.
Where is the rough water?
Oh man that really sucks! I hope they can get their money back from the excursion and sorry to the family who lost a loved one.
I don’t think there too concerned about that small amount of money (120$). I did this same exact excursion in September
I mean everyone got to still stay at the island and they got their money back basically through free merchandise which is actually really nice & worth it.

My heart goes out to the family of the old woman who died but I'm not sure why so many people were freaking out like that. It was a sunny day, they had life jackets, and the water was crystal clear. All they had to do was float there and wait for rescue. If they were in blue-black waters in the middle of a raging storm it'd make more sense but unless they were worried about their phones, it does seem a bit of an overreaction.
They had no direction on what to do, and as a survivor said it was very choppy with bigger waves than usual with boats going past. People felt they were struggling to stay above water even with the life jackets.

It’s not over-reacting for those who have anxiety it’s only natural to go into panic-mode especially if you can’t swim and you find yourself floating in large bodies of water.
When you can’t swim you panic. That’s not an overreaction. I suspect many of them couldn’t swim and were probably the ones who panicked.
I want to be completely honest. Getting a life jacket on and knowing how to swim with how fast that was sinking would not be that hard to escape from. I would be more concerned about my phone getting wet.

No way she drowned if she was wearing a life jacket, and the boat was sinking so slow they couldn't have gotten trapped. Most likely these panicking idiots caused her to die, by trampling, or shoving, or something like that. Yeah, huge overreaction by everyone. I would have been laughing and thinking how great a story it would make at Thanksgiving dinner.

That's one of my worst fears because I'm terrified of the ocean I hate being on a boat of any kind but to have it start sinking and I have to get in the water would be a freaking nightmare

She may have had a weak heart and died of fright
She died because people were needlessly panicking which ended up scaring her and giving her a heart attack.
@@nandoman4769probably contributed. Some people will freak out for the sake of it. In the video you can hear some woman just screaming even though they all have life Jackets. That's literally what you shouldn't do in a situation like that because the vulnerable(elderly person) may have a heart attack and die. Only reason she should be screaming is if it was shark infested waters but we found out it wasn't.
I didn't see enough panic for a crowd to crush someone.
There were plenty of people there spreading calm and reason.
All I can think is that the victim was scared of the water, tried to hold on too long and slipped, hitting something in her fall.

Thats actually terrible she died. She must of drowned and got lost in the chaos very sad. What seems like a simple jump and wait for rescue could be a nightmare for others

We were on one of those ferries for a different excursion to the same place a few months ago, that’s terrifying. Praying for those injured, the woman who passed and all her loved ones as well as possibly traumatized passengers. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

This reminds me of another story of a small tourist boat tipping and sinking. It was a documentary and they showed some videos people took during it
if you're a young/healthy human in decent shape, you could easily not only escape that but also survive the ordeal, even if there were zero rescue boats, by swimming to the nearest island(s) easily. This is a good lesson for anyone watching on WHY staying healthy and in good shape is important.
I was in Nassau when this happened and seen the first responders rush over there with sirens. It was horrible.
Lawsuit! That family that lost the 74 year old needs to sue immediately . This should of never happened! Why did she go under with the boat? Was everyone so selfish they couldn’t grab her and take her out of the boat with them!

I remember in 2012 on New Year’s eve going on one of the Bahama boats like that one and the water was extremely choppy. I almost thought we were going to sink as well.😢 my condolences 💐 to the elderly woman’s family and everyone involved
The shore is just 100 feet away, the water depth is probably not even 10 feet. If anyone who knew how to swim jumped in time and got to shore they would've left enough room for the elderly and weak to be saved by other boats
How absolutely awful. Many many cruisers take similar kinds of boats for whale watching, snorkel or dive or beach excursions, or jungle river rides to visit Mayan ruins in Central America. Some also take boats on lakes. I swim but surely would not wish to have to jump into water in some places. These passengers were lucky to be closer to shore and in warm water. Glad no sharks, cold water, high high waves etc. Sad about the hurt people and the one who passed-away. Prayers for those affected badly.
The situation is not dire, but the damn passengers freaking out is.
And people ask me why i don’t go on boats this is now evidence lol
