Made with love for my close friend and arch nemesis, Xander Birdneck. Didn't film as much on this one so I just had fun with the edit. If you want a different perspective of the trip check out the other guys' channels in the video description
This was an awesome and creative edit Jon! Looked like a tough slog with water levels so low. Sad to see how all the rivers of the world fed from glacial caps are being depleted like the snow capped glaciers/mountains from climate change. 20 years ago, you probably would've enjoyed rapids where you were carrying the load through granite gardens.
I like how you try to razz on ol' Birdneck here but it really comes across as the teasing schoolyard boys and girls do when they secretly like someone. Very cute Jornathan
My 7 yr old said dad I wanna meet him, I said so do I. I and my 10yr old and 7 yr old watch you religiously. Love your videos thank you for all your hard work. Not gonna lie you’re helping my efforts in getting into canoeing and kayaking. I know 2 different things. But same concept. Thank you and I’m glad I found you. Love it, words can’t describe.
Brilliant! All your videos are exemplary but this one captures your talents of creativity, writing, videography and your sense of humor. Your chemistry with Xander is special. We all need a Xander in our lives.
It's amazing how much you've improved your videography, in the years you've been running this channel. I hope, you recover fast from your recent knee injury.
I primarily use the full frame Panasonic S5 with 20-60mm but for telephoto I bust out the Panasonic FZ300 bridge camera (600mm range). I have action cams too but I try to only use them in rapids or rain now as the picture quality just doesn't compare (and I don't use an external mic with them, whereas I have a Rode Video Micro on the S5). And for a drone I've got the DJI Mini 3 Pro. I did a vid on my filming setup here and though I've upgraded some of the cameras, you might still find the discussion useful: th-cam.com/video/hp8Sw-cBxnM/w-d-xo.html
@@LostLakes Actually, I watched that video, I probably skipped somehow you mentioning S5. Watching some of your newer videos, including this one, I was gonna say, it's got to be FF camera, but I wasn't 100% sure. I do have FF camera at the moment, but I use my 400mm mostly, for birds, or anything else, we call wildlife. I would like to do some videos as well.
Omg, that opening and the company concept. Pure gold! And another gorgeous video. Those colours and scenery were so gorgeous. And really glad to see the shout out for Keenan. He has so many great videos. A hidden gem! Thank you for filming and sharing this as always. 😍
Echoing the sentiments of others: the dueling perspectives from multiple creators is really fun, and so reflective of each of your personalities. Like listening to old friends tell a great story three different ways. So happy to hear this all remains viable for you and Erin. Warms my heart to the core to see talented people doing beautiful, creative things.
Gosh, I love drones😍the shot of the bear family was such a lucky one 😍so lovely 😍😍and I always have to laugh when I see Jon and Xander together, what a fun friendship 😁😆😂that's really love😂😂
I always love the vibe of Jon’s films, but this one with the added edge of humor directed at Xander hit me just right. Loved every minute of it. Great work and here’s to ‘The Company’
Camping, exploring, and just being with friends takes me back to my college days. Times when our futures were uncertain and that was okay. It was just being there, being with people you enjoyed, outside, living for the minute…
I haven't seen a movie this good since pirates of the Caribbean. The visual, music and especially the chemistry between you and Zander is truly amazing. Thank you!
Truly a masterpiece; perfect balance of hilarity, poetic poignancy, and classic Ontario canoe camping. Job well done Jontario, I wish I could hit that like button many more times. Best one yet in my eyes!
I bought the X-Large Canoe Grill over the summer and I love it! Perfect for a large group backcountry travelling. You can easily put 4 pots on at once. Nice about the bag design is that it doesn't get grease onto other gear. A must have piece of equipment for every group traveling in a canoe in my opinion.
I have the Large version and I love it! A must have for deep backcountry canoe trips. The interesting thing about theses grills is that they are larger in size than anything available on the market, so you can put more pots on the grill. I really like the bag design, super heavy duty.
@@jean-pierregiroux1880 I really like the bag too. It's big enough where you can leave a scrub pad in the bag to remove some of the grease and food bits when you are finished cooking on it.
I got the X-Large version as a gift from my wife. Really nice to have when on a canoe trip. Doesn't take up much room in a pack or barrel. I bring it with me on every trip.
Beautiful video showing Jon's ability to make the best of life and whatever comes his way ! Had to look up this lake, name meant nothing. My father was born and raised in Blind River, spent lots of time visiting his family home there as a child, after the hwy went through. Whole video is really beautiful, starting of the fall colours so many come to see in this area of the north. Shot of Old Woman Bay is the backdrop so many of us in Wawa grew up with, showing more on the incredible beauty of the Lake Superior shore. You can see why Jon loves this area, and up where he lives you don't get the beaches like there are from Wawa to the Sault. Just go, it's one of the most scenic and untouched places on the planet.
We’ve have the pleasure of watching this video a couple of times now and laughed our way though every time. The intro and outro are amazing. Dander is like the naughty child of the group 😆 thank you for the shout to see this early. I’m excited to see the trips you have planned. Also the fall colours are stunning. It’s my favourite time of year. Thank you for sharing this beautiful trip.
This is gold. Heard you say (in your interview with Canoehound) that this video was not as well received, due to doing something different. Can't believe it, this was impressively done!
Awesome video, Jon... loved your unique perspective of the trip, so very different from Max and Xander's versions! I laughed every time that military music started! And I was pleasantly surprised at a certain cameo appearance in the opening scenes. You've taken four canoes, amazing scenery, lousy weather, good company, and low water, mixed with a good sprinkling of humour, and created a very entertaining trip account. Well done!
Cinematography is wonderful. Fun to see you out with the guys. It’s fascinating to see what skills and strengths you all bring to the table. I enjoy watching you all.
Jon I live in Southwest Michigan, I'm a 64-year-old male and have recently subscribed to your channel. In talking about butane stoves, I prefer propane for one main reason. That reason being that I can refill the one pound propane tank that fuels the stove many many times before replacing it. Presently I have a 100 pound propane pig tank upside down on an outside work bench. With this setup I can refill my one pound propane tank about 95 times at a cost of about $1.50 per tank. Usually, I replace the one pound tank after 40 or 50 fillings just to be on the safe side. Each one pound tank will run my single burner stove for 45 minutes if left on a steady burn. You are environment concerned person and might want to look into the practicality of using such a set up. You can use any size of pig tank to refill the one pounders. Love this Jon! I can tell how much you guys enjoy each other’s company. What a beautiful trip. The changing of the leaves, the quiet lakes. Too bad the water was so low on the rapids. I know that part was a real slog but you guys made it through with good humor. Looking forward to your next adventure.
Hi Jon. What beautiful waters those are. It's nice to see you joining forces with a small group. It didn't seem like such a beat-down when facing inclement weather. Misery loves company. Thanks for taking on such an unused route. Ones like this are physically out of reach for many of us so it satisfies our curiosities to see how a bunch of young bucks take on the challenges. My friend has a 6lb brookie on his wall that he caught on one of those lakes many moons ago. I've always wanted to lay eyes on that lake, and now, thanks to you I have. On a side note, I made my way into White Owl just off the Mississagi and have unravelled all of its mysteries. I'm not sure how to share the info with you privately.

The filming choices, editing choices, music, etc... Your take on this trip was especially fun & creative! Thank you!
Until covid, we went to Lake Matinenda for 33 years which is west of Elliot lake. Were finally going back next summer with my whole family. The terrain looks very familiar. Very excited about going back. Great video.
Very entertaining with beautiful scenery! The photography/videography was spot on. The humor between four friends really added to this trip. I loved it, will share it with friends Thank you so much!!!
OMG Jon the intro music has us hooked! hahaha. We have found with our videos that it is important to have fun with it, its also fun to not always film the trips and just really get out and enjoy the time with friends. Thanks for sharing!
Great edit making comedic storyline. Was a really fun watch. And great to see how many different video styles came from the same trip now that you’ve released this.
Awesome footage, just great to see the boys out together. I trip with my three brothers at least three times a year and enjoy their COMPANY!!! CHEERS!!! Oh YA and I love Keenan and Max’s channels. Good for you Jon for recognizing their hard work and underrated channels.
Intro brought back memories of F Troop, Mash, Rat Patrol, and Hogan’s Heroes; maybe even Get Smart. Enjoyed the humor and you still left enough of the beautiful time of year and travel escapes in your tale. Would have liked more fish but I guess that leaves a need for another visit. Well chosen words and approach for your video; I’m sure I’ll watch it many times. Thanks for taking a chance and putting so much effort forward.
Bravo sir! Round of applause! Critics give it two thumbs up. Must see! Xander gives performance of lifetime as "chip guy". Jokes aside - really good stuff here thank you for sharing! Can't wait to get out next spring already.
Dig the humour. The average age of the Vietnam soldier was 19. In the late 60s! Beautiful lakes. Don’t dig humping all your stuff over the portages. Smooth sailing no wind or rain is my style. 😂🥵
Absolutely loved this. I really enjoy how this channel grows and how you Jon experiment with visual and narrative forms. This one and "halloween" special are my favourite. All the best from Poland.
Absolutely loved this video! Having watched Max, Xander, and Keenan's versions of the same trip it was a joy to see a comical take. Watching the evolution of your videos and the way you have brought your personality out has been a true joy.
oooooh, so excited, saving this for later. Also, thanks for the update Jon, so pleased that you can keep on doing this into the future. As Arnold once said...."I'll be back."
Loved the video and the chirping back and forth. Would be funny to see some footage of camp (separate overall view from gopro maybe) and all 4 youtubers in your natural habitat, setting up different shots and filming your commentaries. The filming choices, editing choices, music, etc... Your take on this trip was especially fun & creative! Thank you!
Thanks a lot Benjamin! I enjoy that too...so far the three that are done are all quite different and I'm sure Keenan's will be too
Until covid, we went to Lake Matinenda for 33 years which is west of Elliot lake. Were finally going back next summer with my whole family. The terrain looks very familiar. Very excited about going back. Great video.
Very entertaining with beautiful scenery! The photography/videography was spot on. The humor between four friends really added to this trip. I loved it, will share it with friends Thank you so much!!!
Thanks so much Susan!!
OMG Jon the intro music has us hooked! hahaha. We have found with our videos that it is important to have fun with it, its also fun to not always film the trips and just really get out and enjoy the time with friends. Thanks for sharing!
Hahah thanks T&T! For sure, I took it easy on the filming on this trip to enjoy the company...but that meant more editing time lol
Great edit making comedic storyline. Was a really fun watch. And great to see how many different video styles came from the same trip now that you’ve released this.
Hurrah for the 4 housemen of the ascotchalips! Love the shot of Old Woman Bay. My uncle has a plaque there. Lots of good memories.
Ascotchalips 😆 What a lovely place to be remembered
Awesome footage, just great to see the boys out together. I trip with my three brothers at least three times a year and enjoy their COMPANY!!! CHEERS!!! Oh YA and I love Keenan and Max’s channels. Good for you Jon for recognizing their hard work and underrated channels.
Thanks Ian! Great channels
This was fun! Thank you Johntario 😊
I woke my husband up twice LOLing at Xander. You two have great chemistry.
Hahaha thanks Corrie!
Nicely done. A company of Heroes. I'm so jealous of outback Canada.
Don't matter how many times I watch you skies you are so hilarious.
😁
Love it!! Love it!! Friends make everything better.
Really appreciate that Bruce!
Bravo sir! Round of applause! Critics give it two thumbs up. Must see! Xander gives performance of lifetime as "chip guy".
Jokes aside - really good stuff here thank you for sharing! Can't wait to get out next spring already.
Hahah thanks a lot Taylor!
Dig the humour. The average age of the Vietnam soldier was 19. In the late 60s! Beautiful lakes. Don’t dig humping all your stuff over the portages. Smooth sailing no wind or rain is my style. 😂🥵
Thanks Mike! 19...that's insane
Hysterical. And also beautiful, as always.
Absolutely loved this. I really enjoy how this channel grows and how you Jon experiment with visual and narrative forms. This one and "halloween" special are my favourite. All the best from Poland.
Fantastic as always maybe even better with the theme. You saying to serve yourself last and take some sand for the team was hilarious!
hahaha awesome intro. Well done for trying something different. Keeping it fresh respect brother
Really appreciate that Eze!
Absolutely loved this video! Having watched Max, Xander, and Keenan's versions of the same trip it was a joy to see a comical take. Watching the evolution of your videos and the way you have brought your personality out has been a true joy.
I really appreciate that!
22:20 - 4 bears, not 3. Nice video......I love it!
Your diverse creative abilities really shines in this one! Clever. Fun. Well done.
Thanks Rod!
@@LostLakes FYI- Made it to Quetico is September!
oooooh, so excited, saving this for later. Also, thanks for the update Jon, so pleased that you can keep on doing this into the future. As Arnold once said...."I'll be back."
Hahah thanks Dave!
What an edit! - “facial expressions recognized, risk for going postal high” LOL - wonderful video, thanks guys
Loved the video and the chirping back and forth. Would be funny to see some footage of camp (separate overall view from gopro maybe) and all 4 youtubers in your natural habitat, setting up different shots and filming your commentaries. Looks like you all had a fun time together, which is great. Love the birdneck moniker. Until next time, all the best
Thanks WM! I have a suspicion Keenan is whipping up a format kinda like that so stay tuned on Canoe the North :)
Amazing life experiences, love your content runs on my TV all day long.. good luck take care.
Really enjoy you guys hanging out! Love the title! This is gonna be great 👍
