He truly elicits emotions like few others can! So much of his music is like a pair of jumper cables on my heart, immediately sparking swirling bliss or deep, deep introspection. Hell, the entire Currents album is like a sonic hallucinogenic experience, whether it's a single song or the album in its entirety! I hate to throw this word out there, but at this hour I lack a better analogue: it's transcendent.
I was lucky enough to see Tame Impala this year in London. Before playing "Feels like we only go backwards" he apologised for not releasing an album for a while and said he doubted whether anyone would want to see him live! It astounded me how humble and unaware of his own talent he is. Luckily the whole crowd made it clear we love them.
The first time I had ever heard Tame Impala's Currents album, I could have sworn I had listened to it before but I hadn't. The way each song unfolded and swirled itself into a wave of feelings and shrouded emotions just struck me with a familiarity only so few other albums could accomplish. At that point I had not heard any of their songs but once heard, they stuck as if I had listened to them for years. It's quite an odd feeling to put into detailed words, but it was and still is a feeling only they have beautifully encapsulated.
You just described exactly how I felt. For the life of me I swear I had heard so many songs on the most recent album but I never had. It truly is an odd feeling

Of all the documentaries and video essays I've seen on TI, this is by far the best. We always think of artists like The Beatles and Michael Jackson as these wonderful gifts of past lives, but my god, we have our own today, and his name is Kevin Parker. He doesn't just enrich individual lives with his music; he brings us together and reminds us of man's best nature in the face of an unredeemable and bleak outlook. No matter how bad things are now, and no matter how far down we spiral... no matter if we are allowed to continue at all, we have today. We have this moment, and for me, it is defined by Tame Impala. I also have been listening to Tame Impala every day for a while now. It hasn't been since I was a teenager (decades ago) that I was into music this much. I am so grateful, I didn't know it was possible anymore.
That's so amazing to hear. Ive kind of gone through a similar situation where i just couldn't find any other music or group that could touch my soul or be the sou sound track of my life besides the Grateful Dead and Dave Matthews Band, but then i recently started listening to Billie Eilish. I tried to have no expectations going in since im 20 years older than her but her music just speaks to me and I think her and Finneas are just geniuses. I have a strange feeling Tame Impala can do something similar for me and I'm excited to explore what Ive missed over these years!
I can see the aloneness in his eyes.....the irony of someone feeling so estranged creating something that reaches out to and connects millions of people together is beautiful
This is by far the best Tame Impala doc out there. I've watched it a few times since I found it in 2020. We need an updated version, please!! and thank you!! :)
Currents was thee perfect album in my opinion. Dont put a lid on musicians unstoppable thirst to explore new ideas with music, especially with someone who is constantly progressing such as Kevin Parker and Damon Albarn from Gorillaz. It's a privilege we get to hear their talents come to life, don't shut down their creativity for your own selfish reasons. Just love it all.
I completely agree, if artists didn’t experiment and try new ideas, all their albums would be exactly the same, all of Tame’s albums have had a distinct sound and feel to them in my opinion and I enjoy them all in their own regards
I don't think you're right. His dad was telling him he won't enjoy music while it is his job, the way to make his bread. A job is usually the thing that you HAVE to do, having the right mood or not. But obsession with every detail isn't caused by that - it is Kevin's artistic approach, he is a perfectionist. Perfectionism can irritate a person eventually and make him tired.
I was in high school falling deep in love for the first time with Tame Impala as the backdrop music to it all. Initial innocent explorations, I was playing Lonerism on repeat on my little discman that I carried to school with a copy of the CD I had rented from the library. As the relationship grew more serious, we both obsessed over Tame Impala and sure enough Currents released that year and I spent the entire summer listening to it on repeat, and experiencing the dizzying and dramatic bliss of first love. Even from the portion of ‘let it happen’ that you played in the video, I was transported back to being a wide eyed 16 year old sitting on the school bus with my high school sweetheart beside me showing me the song for the first time. It makes my heart soar. The transcendental and visceral power of music, particularly that of Kevin Parker’s creation, has never ceased to amaze me. I remember vividly being on the phone with him when Tame Impala won the ARIA award, we were both so excited. Even 60 years down the line, when I hear those heavy, dirty bass lines, I will be taken back to summer of 2015/2016. So magical...
My friend interviewed Kevin Parker back in 2013. She played me their interview that she wrote the article with. He was super funny, shy, and completely random. Wow! So glad to see where Kevin has gone and become since then.
My daughter introduced me to Tame Impala ages ago but they never grabbed my imagination. That was until our UK Glastonbury 2019 festival recently where they headlined one night. Live, they blew my mind and my doubts about a whole fresh musical direction they could take me in. This video reflects my feelings exactly, a superb production that even Kevin would be proud of. Thanks fella ; )

I have been listening to tame since like 2013 and now they're HUGE. It's been amazing to watch them grow. I feel like a proud mother. I even say them at a tiny venue in nyc in 2013 and then at the capitol theater in 2017 and now this summer SOLD OUT AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. AMAZING
Yea I’ve been listening since 2011 and had a chance to see them in like 2012 in Portland at a smaller venue for like $18 a ticket, and the next time they came around it was impossible to get a ticket and they were like $80 a piece or something. I kick myself every day for not making the trip back then lol
Well done dude. You mentioned him working with other artists like Lady Gaga and Kanye, but nobody ever talks about the 3 songs he has on Mark Ronson's "Uptown Special" album. Daffodils especially is an awesome song...

Kevin works a lot with Pond in the studio, and most of the touring members of Tame Impala are in Pond or were at point. their sound is more like early tame but a little more psychedelic influenced. But to be honest I mainly listen to extreme metal and industrial. That being said ... Tame impala / mr. Parker have delivered to this planet some of the most poignant and necessary ... Lush and visionary .... Absolutely exquisite and fascinating musical textures I have ever heard . One of my children turned me on to them when inner speaker came out and I'm simply hooked . @@blackshyguy2160 the beauty of music is that everyone gets to listen and draw their own conclusions/ understanding from it...
Bands like tame impala are un- fucking/un- corrupting the music industry. Its great. History in the makeing. Our kids are going to ask us one day if we ever seen them live.
Not a band tho
You did it. Now I've gotta listen to Tame Impala till I fall asleep and then wake up and listen some more.
Damn I actually fuckin teared up at the end. Great video, Kevin is just such a gift...
The kids at the end sound amazing and theyre adorable. This was a great video.
thanks for taking the time to make this
I also have been listening to Tame Impala every day for a while now. It hasn't been since I was a teenager (decades ago) that I was into music this much. I am so grateful, I didn't know it was possible anymore.
Mark Ledwich I'm in the same boat I had given up on music until I found these guys 5 years ago
I need to meet Kevin Parker before I die...
this is my life mission LOL
Leave him alone he is a loner, lol.
Met him at the casino in Sydney one night, fucking cried
my dad, brother and sister met him and I didn’t ):
You're kidding-and how did that happen?
Love the kids singing at the end. Must be the best feeling as an artist seeing your work be appreciated and loved by everyone out there.
One of the most talented artists out there . Kevin belongs to the upper rungs of the ladder
This is by far the best Tame Impala doc out there. I've watched it a few times since I found it in 2020. We need an updated version, please!! and thank you!! :)
EXCELLENT documentary! I watched it twice in a row. Also recommended it to a friend. Great job.
I am so glad you paired Tame Impala with Gorillaz. They truly are a gift to humanity. Wish they could collaborate.
I completely agree, if artists didn’t experiment and try new ideas, all their albums would be exactly the same, all of Tame’s albums have had a distinct sound and feel to them in my opinion and I enjoy them all in their own regards
One of the best comments I've ever read on this site
@@saivikas9580 tame impala and gorillaz oh dude! amazing idea
glad you mentioned damon, he’s a genius
"obsession with every detail makes it difficult for him to enjoy his output" explains what his father was warning him against?
dyl dog yep but glad he didn’t listen to his dad
Sounds like the condition afflicting every artist
I don't think you're right. His dad was telling him he won't enjoy music while it is his job, the way to make his bread. A job is usually the thing that you HAVE to do, having the right mood or not. But obsession with every detail isn't caused by that - it is Kevin's artistic approach, he is a perfectionist. Perfectionism can irritate a person eventually and make him tired.
I think his Dad was telling him that once you know how to do the magic trick, it's no longer magic.
@@BoutYoungAnnaLee gotta find that interview or article and revise it.
The choir at the end made me so emotional 🥲 about to see him for the second time next week, my heart is bursting with excitement
Not a band
Beautiful video. Kevin Parker is an amazing human being and has completely reinvigorated my love and passion for psychedelic rock. Tame Impala forever.
Tame Impala is iconic. Currents is mine and so many others favorite album of all time. And that’s saying a lot.
Sierra Sharpe lonerism for me, but yeah! kev is a fucking savant. one of the greatest musicians of all time.
Whenever he releases a new song it’s like I’m in heaven for the first few times
Currents is the only album i've ever listened to where I have legitamately adored every song.
Haven't listened to many albums?
@@apolloptx I have. But very few have been as consistent as currents
@@apolloptx That's such a poor way of talking to someone.
One of the greatest rock bands in the world
Kevin parker : were not rock & roll , and were not a band
"Eventually" was such a beautiful song. A track a can always sing to myself everyday doing my work.
Here after the release of The Slow Rush.
This man is a gift, this may be my favourite album from any musician ever.
I’ve just no words for this I love how tame impala not as a band but entity are humble and brilliant in one breath this video encapsulated how good Kevin Parker is
the mash-up sounds like they're conversing in sync. so sublime
Let it happen.
Not a band tho
Well done dude. You mentioned him working with other artists like Lady Gaga and Kanye, but nobody ever talks about the 3 songs he has on Mark Ronson's "Uptown Special" album. Daffodils especially is an awesome song...
TRUE !
Honestly, Kevin makes magic. It’s heavenly. I’m so glad I came across this treasure.
Currents is always my go-to album when boarding an airplane. It instantly neutralizes all my pre-flight jitters.
true man
Thank you for making this video - i know you said that it's already been done but i had yet to come across one with these interviews and facts.
Thank you 😊
For me it's a combination between Beatles - Cream - Jethro Tull - english library music and so much others great bands like the Floyds or Air. In one word, it's compleletly unique... Love it !
cyril debost air is one of kev’s biggest influence !!
I discovered them about a year ago, and I wake up with his songs in my head ALLLLLL the time. I'm very glad you made a video, this is my second viewing. Thanks!
i'm 50yrs old and love listening to the currents album, top band imho, i did'nt know he was from perth, my home town..how cool!
Thank You for that mashup
Great video!
The “group” uhhh you mean Kevin, Kevin and Kevin? 😂😂
That was wonderfully informative. I have been living under a rock and was recently introduced to this artist and I am really happy to get this background information in such an entertaining way! Thank you for making this documentary.
You have got to release a soundcloud url or something of that mix with Rihanna and Kevin singing together. Btw awesome job!
This was really well done...
Gotta love Parker, all that analog equipment, and the skill to know how to use it..end results...genius
Tame impala is a special ...group...!
This video gave me chills. I love how my two other favorite artists (Rihanna, and Travis Scott) are linked with my all time cherished: Tame Impala. Kevin Parker, is in fact a genius.
10 years of my life I've listen to Tame Impala, through all that time I've been through some of the greatest and lowest points of me life, the entirety of high school and college, relationships, money troubles, finding my own path in life and through it all, I've always found peace in Kevin's music. I'll never stop loving it.
quality video, genuinely moving at the end, so grateful for the art that is Tame Impala, and can't wait for what's in store on his next album 🖤 Kevin Parker you mad man
A very good little documentary - thanks.
Kevin works a lot with Pond in the studio, and most of the touring members of Tame Impala are in Pond or were at point. their sound is more like early tame but a little more psychedelic influenced. Anyone thats looking for something to listen to while waiting on a new Tame Impala album should give them a listen, theyre amazing live too
I looove pond a bit more out there but that’s what I love 😍😍
Cody Adams POND is da’ bomb! Man it Feels Like Space Again! Saint Kevin Christ mixes their music!
i love how the more kevin doubts what hes putting out the bigger and bigger tame impala gets..
I’m so impressed with The Slow Rush.
I'm a lifelong metal head with a great appreciation for classical music and a secret adoration of yesteryears pop/rock/soul hits .....
This incredible music knows no boundaries and cannot be defined by genre . It is simply magical and should be considered one of the gateways to higher understanding . I am serious .
Thank you Kevin for this ,with love brother!

Oh no me too bro can’t go a day pure genius and dedication. I myself am inspired completely. Almost overwhelming of how much detail.
What a lovely video to start the day with. So much I did not know ! Long Live Tame Impala !
And now, The Slow Rush. I can’t wait for 2020.
This didn’t age well

Hey Jake, this video is amazing. Watch it often. Show it to people often. Enjoy it all the time. Mad respect.
His music is helping me heal from trauma and I can’t appreciate this man more .

I read everyone's comments about the kids singing at the end - and then here I am... tearing up. So beautiful.
Amazing band. Great to rediscover
Let it happen and Same old mistakes are my all time favorites. Thank you kevin Parker
This was in my recommend and I’m soo grateful.
Love the mashup you did
The kids singing T.I. at the end made me tear up and smile. Great video. Thanks.
I found tame impala because some video used "the less I know the better" and was like holy shit that's amazing. Yeah I've been listening to tame impala ever since
Same
Got to see hin live last week, an amazing experience, his sheer talent and confidence on stage just makes the whole thing amazing. His crowd control is so impressive, and thousands of people sang along to his songs. If you ever get the chance to see him live, take it.
The 29 March 2019 SNL appearance brought me here. I feel like a new planet was discovered
What a beautiful little documentary about my favourite 'band'!
