    -------------------------------
    Tame Impala’s entire discography is a record of Kevin Parker’s personal journey through time. Guiding us through his self-reflection on Innerspeaker. Isolation within Lonerism. And the flood of emotional heartbreak in Currents. Musically they’ve all advanced with him. Once upon a time, an electric guitar sat at the forefront of the Tame Impala sound. Parker’s sonic-explorations have since progressed towards gleaming synths and a wider audience appeal.
    Four years after Currents and a number of collaborations, fans new and old were eager to hear more from the perfectionist-producer. The first track he would eventually return with seemed like a cheeky memo to fans, “Patience” (Patience Audio). The tune would act as a buffer while we waited one more year for his fourth studio release, The Slow Rush. Where nearly every track dives deep into the oceans of time. Past, present and future. The title itself notes time’s paradoxical nature: at times moving slow -- seemingly never ending and at others, rushing past us in the blink of an eye. But while The Slow Rush delves into the concept of time, it’s truly about how we accept the changes that come with the passing of time.

      As someone who's 21 and also battling cancer, On Track is the one song that stood out to me on the album. I had to take time off of college because of my treatment and surgery so all of my friends are graduating while I still have another year and it makes me feel like I'm lagging behind or not where I should be. I need to be realistic about what I've had to go through and On Track reflects the outlook that I need, "Strictly speaking I'm still on track." Despite all the difficulties I've faced and struggles I have I'm still here, alive, and I'm thankful for that and I have the rest of my life to finish college.

    It makes me sad that Patience didn't make it onto the album. I feel like the thesis of The Slow Rush can be found in the opening lines of Patience. "Has it been that long? Did I count the days wrong?" Somehow time rushes right by no matter how slow it feels.

    • @curiouslyunruffled
      @curiouslyunruffled 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Au contraire, I think Kevin made a great decision by not including Patience bc the beats on the song are v dissimilar to the entire album bc obviously he made Patience way before he actually started work on The Slow Rush. honestly it would ruin the album patience for me was a bland single, the drums and bongos didnt mix well with the piano balled and the synths and some of the lyrics for the first time on a tame impala song where questionable, but the opening lyrics are clever. on the song you can just hear the rust from the half decade he didnt make music

    The Slow Rush is one of the greatest albums ever created. And I don't say that lightly. Kevin is a genius and a lot of people don't understand that. Tame Impala is popular don't get me wrong, but Kevins genius is so underrated and I wish more people could see what I'm talking about. The respect I have for Kevin, I just don't have words for.

    As much of a tame impala fan I am I didn’t feel any kind of emotions coming through with the new songs and that’s always been one of the reasons he’s so good, emotional songs from It is Not Meant to Be, yes I’m changing, love/paranoia, the less I know the better and songs like apocalypse dreams and feels like we only go backwards. The new songs are catchy and a playlist of pop but for some reason I don’t really feel the emotional quality on the new album

    I really think it’s funny how Tame Impalas discography has provided a musical narration/commentary for my life, and thus possibly my generation. Exploring late high school, College and coming out of college, it’s lined up with his themes almost to an eerie degree. Slow Rush is really validating for me and what I’m going through right now. Anyway, looking forward to seeing him live tomorrow

    I've only just recently allowed myself to fully investigate Tame Impala, I heard The Less I Know The Better years ago and loved it but decided to sort of "save them for later" if you get me. So I finally came back and got into their music hardcore just as their newest album dropped and I'm Absolutely Blown Away by how layered and complex their production is, it sounds timeless and trancelike. I really mean Timeless too, I've shown them to unknowing friends and they all had Absolutely NO Idea that their music was so recent.
    They're everything I love about Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys, MGMT, and more all wrapped up into one all encompassing hypnotic disco-funk-rock sound crossed with ethereal vocals and gripping lyrics.
    I'm in love with their music and they've made my top three in a short amount of time

Instead of "you Know Tame Impala is just Kevin Parker right?" Like everyone should know that, bc it implies I should have already known.
