As I listen to this song I'm lying on the ground watching the stars. I'm crying because it makes me think about my great-grandfather Samuel-Jules Delacour (I'm French) who survived the First World War and came back broken. He must have seen so much horrible things and he died before my birth so I never got to speak to him. Two of his brothers died on the no man's land. Who knows where their body are. This war took away a lot of my family. Only 7 of us wears our name today (3 men and 4 women). I hope in those dark times Samuel had moments of joy. Then when he had a son, my grandfather Jacques Delacour, the Second World War took him but he survived and came home again. He had two sons one of them is my dad Michel who had three children and the last of them is me Rhianna Delacour. I'm proud of my name which is for me synonym of courage and hope. If these men didn't have the faith of surviving theses wars, the death of their brothers and friends, I wouldn't be there to talk about it. The bravery of these men and their suffering should never be forgotten. I hope where they are they dream of home and are not alone.
No more wars between us my European brothers! Germany, France and Great Britain share a history full of alliances and wars with and against each other. Our (European) history is the best history on our world. We had so much bloody and useless wars in the past on European ground. Now we have to stay strong together like brothers and fight those who want to destroy our peace and our Europe!!! Love from Germany ♥
Good luck with that, I fear a large element in the UK would love nothing more than to go to war with Europe, it's like a cancer growing over here. At least in the next war you folks will be the good guys, so there's that.
they (Germany) were the good guys last time. look how everything has gone on since ww2. most people know if they really looked at it we (allies) fought the wrong enemy.
My uncle who survived the second World War, would sing this when he was drunk bless him, when I was a kid, he never spoke of the horrors of war so much and he was decorated with medals so he definitely seen action. He pased in 2002 at 89 I really miss him 💔 and this has brought a nostalgic trear to my eye 😢 💕 🏴 god bless ♥
My dad used to sing this song as my grandad fought in the first world war. In Belgium. My grandad used to sing it to my dad and his brothers and sister. It just brings tears to your eyes.
I hear the mountain birds The sound of rivers singing A song I've often heard It flows through me now So clear and so loud I stand where I am And forever I'm dreaming of home I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home It's carried in the air The breeze of early morning I see the land so fair My heart opens wide There's sadness inside I stand where I am And forever I'm dreaming of home I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home This is no foreign sky I see no foreign light But far away am I From some peaceful land I'm longing to stand A hand in my hand ... forever I'm dreaming of home I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home.
So many nationalities gave their lives in Flanders fields. It's breathtaking, how quite it is in the fields were they fell, and the Cemeteries they rest. You're home now continue to rest in peace.

I remember when Paul McCartney made his video "Pipes of Peace" which depicted the WWI truce. When I first saw this video in 1982, I had no idea that such a thing had ever occurred. I asked my mum about it since she was born and raised in Northern Ireland if this were true and she told me that her grandfather (who fought in the war) had mentioned something about a truce on many fronts during the first year of the war but the school she attended never mentioned anything about it. Thus I knew that such things occurred during that war but could not independently verify it until this film came out, more than 20 years after the McCartney video.
Aye, the Christmas day truce had folks from all nations playing football and swapping gifts of tobacco and coffee, until the leaders found out and ordered all men to return to their trenches. It just goes to show that it's the elites that always want war, not the everyday folk.
In 2014, on St.Michaels-day Scottish, French, English and German Soldiers sung this Song together in Schweinfurt/Germany. It was a sign of brotherhood and frienship in Europe...

A song I've often heard
It flows through me now
So clear and so loud
I stand where I am
And forever I'm dreaming of home
I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home
It's carried in the air
The breeze of early morning
I see the land so fair
My heart opens wide
There's sadness inside
I stand where I am
And forever I'm dreaming of home
I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home
This is no foreign sky
I see no foreign light
But far away am I
From some peaceful land
I'm longing to stand
A hand in my hand
... forever I'm dreaming of home
I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home.

Greetings from Germany and Merry Christmas.
