Godfathers of Tiki - A Moment of Tiki Episode 41

- We've hit 1,000 subscribers! It's hard to believe so many people have taken an interest in my little TH-cam tiki show, but each and every one of you has my thanks! I promise I will do my best to continue bringing you the dubious content that fills this channel.
This month brings with it a new book review--or, more properly, book reviews. I take the opportunity to do a fairly shallow dive (because a true deep dive would easily take several days) into the newly-released OCEANIC ARTS: THE GODFATHERS OF TIKI, as well as the companion volume, OCEANIC ARTS AUCTION CATALOG. As I say in the episode, either one of these books would've been an event had they been published at any time over the past decade. To have them simultaneously appear borders on tiki overload. That they come out in conjunction with the massive, two-day Oceanic Arts auction is just ridiculous. Join me as I flip through the many, many pages in these two volumes to determine if they merit their hefty price tags.

I bought both books. I don't have the money to be a "real" tiki collector, but I do have money to be a type of tiki scholar/enthusiast and own the important books on Tiki. My time to shine! Thanks for this video! You helped me to find what I needed. :)
My pleasure, Melissa! I feel your pain! There are sooo many pieces I want to add to my collection, but they're simply beyond my budget.
I was super lucky to get Oceanic Arts book on the left recently from a nice lady who sold it to me at cost. I think it's the most expensive book I've ever bought as well.
They're crazy costly but color printing -- especially that many pages, at that size -- is by no means cheap. This will continue to be one of the most expensive books I own until I get my own copy of Tiki Modern!
I Got mine for free
@@albert5624 Lucky
@@albert5624 A bargain at twice the price! 🤣
Can’t wait to get my auction book! I already have the other one. Great review! I really wish I could have seen the auction, I was busy. I’m also sad I never got to go to Oceanic Arts!
The auction catalog would be an event unto itself had it not been for everything else happening. Crazy times!
Great episode! I bought the $140 book and I'm glad I did! Amazing pictures and history! I'm just bummed that I didn't get an opportunity to visit OA in person! Auction prices were insane but I'm happy that Bob and Leroy got a nice sum of money for their retirement!
I pretty much agree with everything you said!
You will hear some big news from OA soon 👀
Got my copy a couple of weeks ago and I've just been loving it! Thanks so much for your video.
You're welcome, Adam! 😁
Another great episode! This is an absolutely amazing book, i’m so glad to have a copy in my own collection. The pictures and the history are so captivating!
The book is just soooo much! It's certainly not for everyone, but for those who crave every single tiki tidbit, it's going to scratch that itch.
@@LagoonofMystery That is for sure!!
Love it! Keep em coming!
Thank you! I shall try!
Very happy I got the pre-order on this book. I was fortunate enough to win a few auctions from the OA auction.
Very cool! Obviously, there were lots of items I'd *like* to have bid on, but the next step would be getting outbid on everything!
@@LagoonofMystery Yeah the big things I did want ended up getting gobbled up but I was able to get some smaller things, in fact, one of which was the least expensive item in the entire auction lol
Aloha! Been looking forward to the episode 😃
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it!
Digging into your videos and really enjoying them. I appreciate the detailed instructions. Moving from Tomball to Caldwell and building a tiki room in the new house.
Sounds like a plan! Every new house is a blank slate, and offers endless opportunities for creativity. Plus, Caldwell is notoriously lacking in home tiki bars, so you can help right that imbalance!
Wow! What a great review! Thank you and Aloha, OA! -Jordan
My pleasure! Thanks for putting together such an astounding pair of books!
Great Episode... What is the name of the song and band that plays at the end?
"Secret of Tiki Island" by Kevin MacLeod.
