I remember those glass floats-for-fishing-nets were everywhere as a kid in 1960’s LA, even my uncles Tikiroom/garage had a bunch; you don’t see many anymore, even as surviving decor. As I am just starting a book about building Disneyland’s Enchanted Tikiroom, this was a nice intro, Thanks.
I look forward to your book. i remember the Disney Show about the Tiki Room and audio-animatronic characters as a child in the '60's, but didn't visit Disneyland until my 40's. I liked the show but but the white "girl" birds seemed to be aging poorly. How often are these units redesigned and renovated?
@PBSSoCal Thank you soooo much Mr. Nathan Master's for taking your viewers & followers throught this very interesting story to Anaheim, Cal. Disneyland from the o.g Bamboo Ben family history to the Enchanted Tiki Room experience 💓✌️😇
Bjj and judo are basically the same. So you’ve done 30 days of judo (sorta) already. I started in bjj and picked up judo after 4 months. Now it’s been over 10 years doing both
Thanks. Let me clarify that it is not “my” book but a nice new hardcover I have just begun to read from Ken Bruce titled ‘Before The Birds Sang Words’, with a forward from Brad Bird. An extremely detailed account of Tikiroom creation. It already exists! Enjoy.
I couldn't make this up if it wasn't true. When I was about 12 my 19 year old cousin and his family came to visit us in So Cal and of course we all went to Disneyland. My cousin was football player at Arkansas. Lineman. Probably 6'5" and 315 pounds LOTS OF MUSCLE - no neck -- you get the picture. We go the the Tiki/Bird "attraction" where the signature song is "Let's all sing like the birdies sing Tweet tweet tweet tweet". Well all these California laid back types who were too cool for school and barely sang at all -- but my cousin was IN HEAVEN he laughed and giggled and sang as loud as 5 men. But he was so huge and scary no one bothered to say a peep to him. In fact the Cali types responded to his enthusiasm and pretty soon most were laughing and singing full out!! He forced us to go back to that attraction 2 more times that visit. Like watching a giant kid-- Walt would have been proud.
You could not have picked a better person to do a segment about. Ben's work is famous and amazing.
Disneyland’s Tiki Tiki Room is a fond childhood memory for me. I loved it. My dad would take us every year.

Ben rocks!!! I grow up in Orange County and love every thing Ben and his family has done ❤️😎👍🏽
Great story… looking forward to more Lost LA. Thanks for sharing!
So cool! I love Bamboo Ben's work!!! Tiki forever!!!
Great show! Great tribute!
This was amazing, thank you!!!
Just curious: Is the tiki carving for the old Island Trade Stores in Disneyland the SAME carving now at Trader Mort's in San Diego? 🤔

I really like the flotsam and jetsam Beachcomber vibe.
