The old Brunnel aqueducts used to have wooden supports on the stone pillars, which is why only the pillars are now left. There are several like this in Devon and Cornwall. South Dartmoor is a bit same, but once you get higher north towards Princetown and the like, it reveals much more character.
Oh yeah wanted to go down there a few years ago and see those wild horses, been looking at that area on microsoft flight simulator but its not the same, the buildings are not even accurate but it looks correct from 5000ft or higher. I would be looking for signs of gentrification. I wonder if they do a lot of amazon ordering there like you said no shops or anything around there.

There is a Tesco and. morrisons, its quite a busy town.
